To say that WV is the worst place to live in the U.S. is a bit of a hyperbole, but there are many things that need to be changed. While W.V. has many good factors, it is also number nine on the list of worse places to raise a child, and the is not something anyone would want to be supportive or happy about. Unsafe areas, high crime ratings, and drugs are all large factors in everything wrong with W.V. If we were to make some changes to W.V.’s community, then it would have the potential to be a wonderful place to live. It seems as though almost everywhere a child asks to go their parents reply, “No, that’s a bad area.” Amusement parks, public pools, arcades are all safe and fun things kids enjoy doing. Although, we cannot declare these new
It is clear to me after reading through his book, as well as completing further research, that Richard Louv is definitely on to something. Years ago, children grew up playing outside in their backyards or around the neighborhoods. Sadly the children growing up in the past three to five years, have a sense of fear as it were to go outside and play. In an interview in 2012, Louv suggested this was due to media and
As a North Carolinian, I did not spend very much time dwelling on the state of West Virginia. To me, it was a state that not many people paid attention to. It kind of just did its own thing without anyone thinking twice about it. It wasn’t until when I was deciding where to go to school that West Virginia was formally introduced to me. Contacted by the Women’s Lacrosse coach, I visited and promptly fell in love with the University of Charleston but it was nothing I was expecting from West Virginia. When I began to tell people that I was going to school in WV, I was flooded with opinions. Every friend of mine I’ve told, gave me the same or similar response: “doesn’t everyone have sex with their cousins up there?” Now I would be lying if I hadn’t thought of that once or twice about it but that was only the tip of the iceberg when it came to my perceptions of the state.
This would be a good place to visit as some of the children have never been but there are concerns about health and safety and the risk of being in a big open space but to minimise the risk a risk assessment will be done. This will identify the
For the past few decades, the development of technology and the expansion of the knowledge has enriched our life, especially for our childhood life. However, relatively speaking, kids now are getting less freedom than the past due to the world has more potential dangerous such as the increased rate of abduction. Dealing a complicated problem with a very simple violent way may result in a worse impact in the near future. Because of parents excessively protect their own children and outside world is too horrible to play alone, more and more kids lost the opportunity of touching the nature, instead they indulge in the virtual world created by electronic products. In the story “The Shortening Leash”, Jessica and Hanna give us a relatively accurate and unbiased information about the situation that kids now lost freedom a lot according to the board surveys and three statistic graphs. While they mentioned that we are not supposed to latch our kids due to over-protection. Otherwise, let children pursue free exploration is not equal to stop your ear to them.
In the play “Much Ado About Nothing” by William Shakespeare, Antonio challenges Claudio to a fight/duel to avenge Hero’s “death.” Shakespeare uses epistrophe and hyperbole to demonstrate that in Elizabethan times, a man of words was not as respected as a man of action.
Virginia City was one of the first cities in Nevada, and it was-established in 1859. Frontiers men discovered silver in Virginia City opening up the area to lots of mining. Virgina City was-considered a mining boom town, which means it sprang up over night. From 1862-1863 the population went from four thousand to fifteen thousand. By 1873 they had twenty-five thousand people live there, and it was-considered the richest city in America! By 1879 the mining business was running out and the population went below eleven thousand. The current population is 855, according to the 2010 senses. It isn't populated at all, It is pretty empty. It is now considered a tourist attraction. I live in Clark County, and the name of our seven commissioners are:
A hero can be defined as a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. That definition is a perfect description of Adam and his wife, Kelley. The whole book Fearless is about Adam being a hero for his country and also himself. Kelley played a big part in the book also. She pretty much saved Adam’s life.
My parents are my heroes, and they inspire me everyday. Migrating to the US a year before I was born, they traded a comfortable life in Vietnam to work long hours at low wages in America in order to give their children unimaginable opportunities. Growing up, I was not aware of the sacrifices my parents made, but knowledge of them now gives me all the reason to be forever grateful for them and everything they make possible. I can never fully repay my parents, but I can do them right by doing the best with all I have got.
“ We are not leaving any man behind,’’ said George Washington. As he was the last person to leave Brooklyn. He was thinking about the narrow escape from ending the revolution. He was thinking about the disappointing loss that might’ve ended the war. This was the battle of Long Island. It was a battle of trickery and everybody knew what was at stakes. As this event was an event of fear and horror, It was a battle of surprises and mistakes. But, was it enough to end the American Revolutionary War?
Parents are always getting frustrated with their children about getting outside more to get some fresh air instead of sitting inside playing video games… A high speed, action filled game would do just that. Adults wouldn’t need to worry about their kids getting outside because they will already be running around with friends. In Guy Martin’s article, he says, “Since the start of the game, the twelfth graders had been sleeping on futons in a couple of vans borrowed from their parents, the better to pull off a stoop-side ambush and avoid being ambushed themselves.” Some people would argue that violence simulating games would be perilous because it could teach an adolescent bad or unsafe habits, but they would not need to worry because the people involved in the game could use a water gun instead of a real gun, a water balloon instead of
During the program I expected to learn about how to do well in college. I expected this certain outcome by what others have received from the program. I also assumed I was going to be able to earn college credit by taking the summer courses in Biology or Chemistry. My past experiences in summer programs had a huge impact on my way of thinking on the outcome of this program. My prior experiences included me participating in Upward Bound at Wallace Community College during my high school career. While participating as a member of Upward Bound I had many encounters with how to go about doing college work. The instructors gave us college-related work and took us on many trips to different colleges around Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and even Arkansas. The opportunities Upward Bound gave me are endless and prepared me to further my education. In fact, how I first found out about the Rural Minority Health Scholars Program is by one of my Upward Bound instructors along with my high school counselors. As I started the RMHS program I focused on many career options, however; now since I have weighed out my options my decision is final. I want to become a Pediatric Nurse and then
Parents have a reason to be afraid. In this age, youngsters can casually hop online and quickly find an easy recipe on how to make their favorite deadly explosive, many schools now have metal detectors at the doors to prevent armed students from massacring their peers, drugs flow freely down suburban streets, and children have unprecedented access to. . . . .video games?
As a parent that is my first thought of a no rules, spontaneous fun amusement park. I would imagine that Park would not stay in business very long either because of the little heathens running all over or the fact nobody would ever want to spend any money as they would be able to conveniently shuffle their kids away from gift shops and photo opportunities. There could not be a positive take away from an Amusement park run in this manner there would be utter chaos and disorder. The stress experienced by many of the patrons visiting would be incredibly high as people ran about having their fun, blocking paths and smashing others as they run around. What started out as seemingly fun and exciting, would have park visitors leaving angry, upset and unhappy, all of which means they would not return for a second

The author argues the point that many children -especially American children in urban environments- are losing the sense of the great outdoors. Most of these children spend their time accessing as much technology as possible, which requires little to no movement at all. Many of these children want to make a change in the way that they explore the world around them, but they don't have the resources to do so. In an effort to give these children the resources to explore the world outside of their gaming systems, taking the initiative to change this growing problem is only the first step towards the greater good for the environments and the people that roam it.
