I believe in being spontaneous. The word "spontaneous" means a restlessness, a lust for opportunities and constant adventure, but the word itself is much more than a definition. Most of us, when we were little, were taught to "be different." We were told it was okay to act outside of what's considered the norm. When I was little, I truly took it to heart. My dad taught me to not be like everyone, that everyone else was boring. He was one to always be ready to go somewhere, with someone, without looking at what could go wrong or the consequences. Together we had many experiences, we used to take his little plane and fly around our area all the time, or sometimes we would even just sit and watch the planes take off and land, while he explained
In the introduction and chapter one of Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, Daniel H. Pink expressed how behavioral science can change the common understanding of people’s driving force and suggests a more helpful way to better performance. Pink mentioned that there are two main drives that are powered by behavior. First is the biological drive which comes from within individuals and the second drive comes from without rewards and punishments the environment provides for performing in particular ways. However, a scientist named Harry F. Harlow came up with a third drive after experimenting with monkeys and Harlow called it the “intrinsic motivation.” Harlow said that to completely comprehend the human condition, people have
Social networking sites such as Twitter has made a tremendous change, in the aspects of how people network and communicate with each other over the past couple of years. Remarkably, Twitter was created in March 2006. By February 2010, the hype of this self-styled “New Twitter Experience,” Twitter users were sending out over 50 million tweets per day. In Peggy Orenstein’s article “I Tweet, Therefore I Am,” she exploits the argument that people should tweet for themselves, and not for the pleasing of their followers. Even though, since the article was featured in the The New Your Times. The relevance of this article was intended to be read by the readers of The Times, which most of them were businessmen and politicians between ages of 30-35. Nevertheless, this article was written on July 30th 2010, printed, and published in the book, The
I think that all people deserve respect regardless if they have a disability, that people should treat others as they want to be treated, regardless of their disability. People do not have a choice of how they are born, if they get an illness or even have an accident. Therefore, in my opinion, people with disabilities should be afforded funding or services for the tools that may help to enhance their quality of life. What is appalling is the treatment and conditions of and in the institutions, along with the children who are misdiagnosed in "Unforgotten”. I have to question, did anyone notice during this time? It can’t be a lack of understanding to have loved ones live in those conditions without questioning this in some
Many are rich many are poor many have money many don’t. Have you ever had a moment where you did something selfish for desperation of money and karma hit you right back with a right hook?. And felt regret towards yourself. In the short story “Why, You Reckon” the author uses irony and dialogue, to show the audience that money can't buy happiness.
Just as Afflitto (2015) says, Coyle believed the better we understand the language of the people, the better we understand the links between race and crime. We cannot understand their problems if we do not understand what they are saying. Coyle (2010) believes the criminal justice system is racially biased because of this disconnection. From what I have seen in my 18 years in law enforcement, the system is not as racially biased, but is socially economically biased because of language. I have seen those with different language skills and dress treated much different regardless of their race.
I aspire to attend Belin Blank, a driving reason being is I would like to practice new forms of art, as well as expand on the techniques that I already use. I only occasionally have a chance to practice art at home, drawing mainly. This would be a chance to work on other art forms like sculpting, which I haven’t had the chance to practice in three years. There are some forms of art that I never have had the chance to practice, whether because of lack of chance, or because I run out of time during a normal curriculum. I’m always open to trying new projects, and this may be a chance to try them. I’m interested in trying some projects that I’d otherwise be unable to try.
Analysis paralysis is a term most Executive Recruiters recognize. It strikes unsuspecting new and seasoned recruiters alike. When one concentrates on the possibilities of what can go wrong during a search, or worry about their performance, they tend to stop taking action. When activity stops placements stop.
Life as an American comes with a multitude of perks. From an outsider's view Americans indulge in wild entertainment, large portion sizes and have a holiday for practically every occasion. Although many of these ideas are true, if you ask an American they’d say that there is so much more to it than just that. They would tell you their great appreciation to be able to achieve and set goals for themselves, freely practice their religion and be anything they can dream of. Thus the well known idiom ‘freedom isn’t free’ comes to play. Its easy to pick and pull apart the reasons we go to war, although every situation is different, but is mainly to defend the freedom and values American people cherish.
Stating what you believe is a simple task. For example, I believe that rings are the best accessory, and that breakfast is the best meal of the day. There is no need for me to describe my appreciation for rings as, “tiny silver hoops graced with stones of different colors tell a story my index finger could never tell on its own”, or to describe my breakfast as, “the tender pancake that fuels my brain as I trudge through the quicksand that is my life”. I believe making your beliefs into an overdramatic novel is too cheesy. Using different adjectives to describe the same thing over again makes me uncomfortable. I can’t help it, and I hope those with teen angst pieces don’t take offense when my face scrunches up and my body shivers ever so slightly.
A good man written by Mark Shriver and Still I rise by Maya Angelou represent multiple core values including empowerment, excellence and identity. Both selections of readings represent each core value in a way that relates to each other but also differs from one another. A good man represents the author as being a man who is searching to be a better man as his dad was widely known as. Mark shriver tells a story of his life searching for his identity and through this story you see his achievements, excellence, and the overall empowerment of his story. In the poem, still I rise, the character is represented as someone strong. Throughout the poem the character shows empowerment of their life and with this it shows that character's identity.
I have always enjoyed learning. Even at a young age I would be found in English class with a math workbook and a list of logic puzzles to see how much information I could gather at once. In addition to the constant pursuit of knowledge, I also greatly enjoy maximizing my potential. I relish in opportunities that push me to my boundaries, and I enjoy seeking after these to be the best that I can be. It is these two driving passions that have motivated me since childhood that have given me the desire to transfer. I seek to obtain the best opportunity available to me in order to push myself to personal and educational growth. My current college has served me well, and I am very thankful for its role in shaping me. In spite of this, I do not feel pushed any longer. The academics are great, but I desire more of a challenge, and more knowledge from this. I have been shaped in many ways by my experience here, but it
I'd say the three words that describe me are determined, fun-loving, and competitive. I feel the most complete when I'm working hard on something, whether it be a paper for school, washing my car, or baking a cake. I always need to be doing something, or else I feel like I'm wasting my time. I do like to have fun, though, and one of my favorite activities is spending time with my friends. It's a great way for me to destress. I'm very competitive as well. I like to win. It feels amazing to be the best at something. I want to go to a school with other like-minded students, so I can have a rigorous, yet fun experience for
Certain words, have had major impacts on my life. As a young girl, I took a great interest
This makes me think of this quote “To Know Where You Are Going, You Must Know Where You Came from”. I believe that is important to know your facts in order to be able to realize what must be done in order to solve the issue. Prediction that there will be 9 billion people by 2050 is a scary thought. It is time to think now how to prevent it from happening and what to do if that does happen. The more people we have the more issues there will be on this planet, is it already congested with pollution as is. I do believe that if we all work together in making this planet a clean environment we can make it better by 2050. I don’t agree that not having children is a solution, they are not the
Asking someone to describe themselves isn’t always the easiest task, nor is it necessarily the most accurate one. Like anyone, my personality and my demeanor changes, even slightly, depending on who I’m around and my comfort level. Something that is dying off with each generation, seems to be a person’s ability to switch between formal and informal (both in speech and actions), dependent on if they are with their elders or friends. I have always prided myself on my ability to know when to make this shift and give respect when respect is due. With my friends, I might be more open and creative, with my peers whom I don’t really know, I might be more reserved and quiet. Essentially, what I’m trying to get at is this: you are all going to have your own unique and individual description of me.
