The song called “I Can See Clearly Now ” by Johnny Nash, this song is meant to send courage to others who have gone down the wrong path of life and you can always turn your life around for the better. This connects to the theme of the book Fearless because the theme of the book is that life will put walls up to stop your path, but there is always a way to overcome them. I chose this as my theme statement because the book tells us about Adam Brown’s life. Adam Brown is a fallen Navy Seal but had a hard life. He was a good kid throughout Elementary through High School. During Adam’s college, he got caught up in drugs and quickly became an addict to drugs. For years he was hurting his body and he wanted to get help. One year after rehab he went
I chose this song because, in my opinion, it has a good thesis that backs up the song lyrics and it gives you a positive feeling. Basically, the song is telling us to always keep our faith and stay strong no matter what. It encourages people to
Gospel music has always been a good outlet for me. It has also spoken to me and gave me answers nothing nor anyone else could. It helps me connect to my roots and remember who to turn to in a desperate time of need. The most important songs have helped through the darkest times in life. One song that stands out to me and lifts me up is Greater is Coming by Jekalyn Carr. This is a song that supports me while going through obstacles, staying optimistic, and overcoming obstacles.
Robin Thicke’s music video to his song “Blurred Lines” avidly contributes to the patriarchy, while portraying sexism, gender standards, and beauty standards. His music video can be analyzed from a feminist theory approach, as it’s evident that his song and video contribute to a patriarchal society and its inherently sexist and sexualized ideologies. The ideology behind the song and music video is purely sexual and about male dominance. The lyrics to the song and actions in the video exhibit extreme over sexualization and objectification of the women. Analyzing this piece of popular culture through a feminist approach opens up a provoking conversation about how popular culture functions in a patriarchal culture. Analyzing pop culture though a feminist theory can allow for a larger variety and more in-depth analysis about the social aspects and political agenda within popular culture.
Luke Bryan who started his singing career at age fourteen chooses specific words to indicate the time period and makes it clear to identify the genre in his popular song “Play It Again” released in 2013. The repletion but also his way of saying certain words makes this song special and is straightforward for college students to understand poetry. In this song Luke Bran spots a tan legged girl who he finds attractive. Luke the instantly assumes she is taken because of her beauty. As they begin to carry on a conversation a song comes on she gets excited because her favorite song comes on and before he asked her to dance she took his hand and danced with him until the song cut off.
Rather than dwelling on the past, it is important to focus on the present and your goals for the future. These lyrics demonstrate how important it is to work with a set end goal in mind. All the blood, sweat, and tears that the narrator pours into the song and lyrics really show the empowerment of the song. In the end, hope is important towards completing your goals, and can greatly help you persevere and keep
Our experiences and life journey plays a big role in who we are and what our identity is, but its also internal. Tyler, like many of us, has struggled with issues such as depression, suicidal thoughts, feelings of inadequacy, and the feeling of being alone. These feelings and issues can often have a major effect on our identity and how we view the world, and it can often be seen in our creative expressions. Tyler Joseph found a way to channel these experiences through his music and connect with his listeners and acknowledge that life is not always easy and full of good things. Some specific lines from his music that resonates with young audiences come from the song “Screen” and say, “While you're doing fine, there's some people and I/Who have a really tough time getting through this life” (TØP lines 19-20). From just these lines alone it is clear that Tyler has had some ups and downs in his life that left memories or scars that stuck with him. These experiences, although unknown, had such a massive effect on him that he expresses them in his writing. They make up who he is now, and he uses his influence to let others know that they are not alone in what they’re feeling. Writing songs is not only a therapeutical way for him to speak his mind, but it is also a way to be honest with listeners and show them a raw and vulnerable side of someone that is often placed on a
My story has a meaningful story behind it. The story is deep for me and even for the artist and probably for many other people. Hearing songs like this can inspire you. It inspired me to be thankful for the people in my life. One day they can be here the next they could be gone. You never know what’s going on in their lives.
The song continues to venture into the theme of justice and injustice. Although all the evidence supports the Hurricane’s innocence, the community as a whole acts to ensure that injustice is served.
This song tells a story about the struggles an immigrant deals with in America and I think ending with this lyric leaves a lasting stand on listeners to keep fighting for what they want and to not give up. I also like that he took a character from a book to show that community and the human spirit will get through bad
The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points.
The first line of the song, “I’m gonna make a change for once in my life” (Ballard and Garrett), helps set the stage for the entire song. The lyrics are very straight forward, speaking about a man seeing the world around him and how it needs to change. The only way to start to change, is to look at yourself and start within. “I'm starting with the man in the mirror… I’m asking him to change his ways… and no message could have been any clearer… if you want to make the world a better place… take a look at yourself, and then make a change” (Garrett and Ballard), is the chorus to the song that refers to a man knowing the world around him is suffering and by taking the first step will help change not only himself but can help contribute to his environment. In order to make a difference in the world, you must start small and start with yourself. The song speaks about is about people suffering and how cruel our world can be. People only care about
Music, music has so much power over us it makes us feel all these emotions and makes us act bit different when we're listening. The song that makes me fell like I have a lot of energy is "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson. The first time I heard the song was when I was seven years old my dad wad the person who showed me the song. When I first heard it I immediately fell in love with it. Ever since that day, I loved the artist and my favorite song has always been "Billie Jean". "Billie Jean" is a song that inspires and motivates me to play soccer.
All throughout the summer a song was constantly blasting through speakers singing about blurred lines, but what lines are being blurred?
I chose this song because it is a song that I have never heard before but also because I have so much respect and love for Beyoncé. She is such a powerful singer and I couldn’t think of anyone more talented to sing this song with power behind it.
This theme is brought through the song by showing multiple literary devices. Such as “I'm the one at sail, I’m the master of my sea”. This metaphor shows the realization and empowerment that oneself can give in a depressing situation. This simile “Falling like ashes to the ground, Hoping my feelings they would drown” compares his feeling of sadness and depression to ashes, and wanting them to drown and vanish, from his life. This line, “All the hate that you’ve heard has turned your spirit to a dove” explains how all of the hate that he has experienced and gone through has turned his feelings around, and decided to look on the bright side of things. Personally I think this is a great
