I Hear The Word Ethics

When I hear the word ethics I think of different values, and standards you must live by. According to Webster, ethics is “the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation. ” The situations and challenges that I am going to discuss can be seen as doing the right thing because it is my duty and obligation or it can be seen as doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do in order to better myself in the long haul. Everyday I am faced with challenges that require is to think about are decisions and choice wisely. The dilemmas I went through and are still going through have shaped the person that I am becoming. First of all, one of the influences that affect my ethics would be my family. Although my family cannot decide my personal ethics, they have instilled a strong sense of right and wrong in since I was a child. The values that I was taught were always be honest, be considered of others, and if you make a mistake own up to it. With the values that I was taught and the ones I learned over the years that when I am in a situation or a dilemma I can think about the values that I was brought up on. The values that my family instilled in me can also make handling a dilemma difficult because you can hurt someone by being honest or hurt someone for not telling them the truth. For example, a dilemma I went through with my siblings was doing family game night. Family game night is when we played board games and what not. During this particular game night and one of my siblings was losing the game and got mad and threw the board game and started hitting me and my other siblings. This dilemma affects my family personally more than it affects me because my sibling choice the actions that she did because she was angry to be losing the game. For me I had to step up and tell her that she was acting out and was being disrespectful so she do not get in trouble by our parents because they way she was acting was very out of control.

This dilemma is about doing what is right because you don’t want to see you sibling hurt but it can also be seen as you only reasoning
