I like the dynamic my supervisor offers to this experience. I feel like she has genuine care for the interns and wants us to exceed. My supervisor gives wise incites on how to do visits that is helping me become a better pastor. She has helped me slow down and think critically about my own assumptions and intentions as I enter into a room or conversation with a patient. I feel like I still have so much to learn a lot from her but wished she would have pushed me harder.
Not only am I learning a lot of new things, but I am having a hands-on experience to prepare me for my future career in counseling. During this internship at CCP I have been in contact with several different clients. In my case it will be employers, employees, or their family members. CCP provides chaplain ship for business employers, employees, or their family members that may experience some type of crisis. Also, CCP provides chaplain ship for everyday life situations that may need addressing. Whether, it is listening, giving advice, providing a ministry of presence, sending referrals, or praying. Several employees have gained a bond and trust with me wherein, they feel comfortable talking with me and sharing with me personal
During my internship, I have become more confident in my leadership ability. Although I have limited construction experience, I often provide instruction and
The Intern Supervisor is the person responsible for providing direct on-the-job supervision of the Intern. The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
I am interning at VCC: The Gary Center in La Habra. I currently intern Wednesdays and Fridays for five hours each day. On Wednesdays, I am in the upstairs office all five hours working in the front office. Currently VCC: The Gary Center is going through the process of moving to another location. After merging with Vista Community Center in March 2016, our agency has expanded and moving our services to a bigger location. This whole process has brought disorder into the agency and high levels of stress. As an intern walking into a changing agency is was pretty easy to learn the new rules. My supervisor Ana Palafox, provides me with different tasks every Wednesday. I cover for the other receptionists Viri and Ailene, when they are on lunch or taking a break.
My supervisor Gabriel Roberts, and his assistant Amanda De Maria, were great at getting me acclimated to working with the FJD. With little previous knowledge about the FJD, these two have helped me become more knowledgeable about the communication field, as well as the legal field. When I accepted the internship opportunity I didn’t know exactly what I was getting myself into. Gabe and Amanda aided me in my adjustment into the judicial world by being supportive and referring me to resources to expand my knowledge.
I am a Human Resources Intern at Minigrip, LLC in Seguin, TX. I have two Human Resources Supervisors, Brenda Meza, Human Resource Administrator, and Michael Zuckerman, Human Resources Generalist. I assist Brenda with many of the day-today tasks in the Human Resources office and work closely with her during the recruitment process. When I work with Michael I am generally learning how to perform payroll tasks or working on an investigation of an employee.
During my time at Caribbean House Health Care Network I have benefited from the supervision of my supervisor because she an effective supervisor. The textbook The Human Services Internship: Getting the most from your experience give examples of effective supervisors that fits the experience that I have with my supervisor. According to Myers Kiser, P (2012) “Effective supervisors are knowledgeable, supportive and skillful in giving feedback. They must be willing to address difficult issues as they arises, teach their supervises important information and skills, and model high standards of professionalism and expertise,” (page 110). When she gives me tasks to do she checks up on me to see if I am doing it correctly. One of the times I encountered benefiting from my supervisor’s supervision was when I first began to inform patients about wellness resources and services that are offered at Caribbean House Community Health Care Network clinic. Some of the wellness programs that are offered are yoga, meditation, sound meditation and fitness. Some of the services that are offered are
I truly enjoy taking the time to get to know each of my residents on a personal level. I am always curious about their interest or if they have any special talents. I like to think my residents see me as a reliable support system always ready to give a word of advice or just some encouragement. When my residents were stressed with finals, bad grades, their relationships, or they just needed someone to talk to I always made myself available.
The main task of my internship was to gain more experience and knowledge of our respective field. Overall, the experience proved to be both enjoyable and rewarding. During this internship I used the skills that I learned from my Medical Assistant class and used them in the real world scenarios at the hospital. Also while I there I was exposed to new experiences. Such as performing Urine test on Drug and alcohol patients. For this procedure I had to stand in the restroom with the patient's and watch them urinate into a cup. I had to stand in the restroom with the patients because in the past they try and cheat the system. For example
My internship placement is at Positive Living Niagara, which is non-for profit organization located in Downtown, St Catharines. The focus of this organization is to offer a band of innovative and proactive tactics to harm reduction, prevention and a person- centered focus on support and education for those at risk and affected by HIV, HCV and STBBIs in the region. The organization is comprised of 3 major departments, which are Support and Education, Street works, and Case Management. I work in the office while generally overseeing these departments every Friday from 9:00am – 5:00pm. My supervisor is the Executive Director of the organization and his name is Glen Walker. I have been given a main task that is to redesign the organization’s annual report. Along with this task I was given others such as succession planning, analyzing, and revising existing polices.
“It is unequivocally clear that leaders are not like other people” (Kirkpatrick and Locke, 1991, as cited in Northouse, P. G., 2016, p.22). I have always thought that I was not like other people; I see the world through a different lens. This difference, which sets me apart from my peers, has sometimes restrained my progress; however, after studying my differences and seeing them as strengths, I can now focus on these strengths that make me a unique, passionate, progressive leader. In reflecting on my leadership skills, I will analyze the results of the leadership questionnaires, as presented in Peter Northouse’s book, Leadership:Theory and practice (7th ed.), connect those result strengths with the
I was able to be successful in this internship because I had to utilize and develop many new skills. I used my interpersonal skills such as: coping strategies; peer relationships and effective social skills; communication, problem-solving techniques, decision-making, conflict resolution, how to work in a team, where everyone depends on each other and a lot of patience. I developed many new skills such as multitasking, problem solving/decision making, and leadership qualities. I learned that I am a role model. It is important to develop a good relationship with students; however, I must keep in mind that I am expected to behave myself in a professional manner at all times. I also learned some of the important skills of a teacher such as: how to provide direct instructions, clarify content, teach skills and answer the students questions; help students identify their skills, abilities, and long term plans regarding education and personal problems.
My clinical experience for this semester was an opportunity to follow the house supervisor at Trios Healthcare in Kennewick, WA. The courses at Washington State University (WSU) consisting of leadership and management have taught me the value of collaboration as well as communication. With the opportunity to follow the house supervisor I was able to apply this knowledge to my clinical experience. This was especially good because one of my learning objectives was to participate in the management of admissions and transferring patients in the
Internships at hospitals provided insight into the medical field where I was able to see how different departments work and how they are organized. I observed patient’s wards, procedure rooms, autopsy room and laboratory centers all which I found interesting. All this experience helped me reinforce my desire to become a
As an educational leader, I have encountered several new and existing school policies. I never thought deeply about the various processes and the stakeholders involved in policy formulation and implementation. This semester I am engaged in the course Managing Educational Policy as School Leaders (EDLM 6005). This is Semester III, 2016/2017. My course coordinator is Dr. Timar Stephenson. Dr Stephenson was my course coordinator once before and was very helpful whenever I needed clarification or when I had a difficulty. I am thrilled to embrace the new ideas and learning opportunities embedded in this course since it teaches issues which I experience at work. Dr Stephenson, during his introduction reminded his entire class that success in this course would only be realized through hard work, dedication, and commitment. Therefore, it is imperative that I have the right attitude as I navigate this course. The course involves seven weeks of intense work. I am pleased to have a wonderful group facilitator by the name of Rhonda Joseph who has already given us a BBC to explain the requirements of the course and our first two modules.
