The relationships in I Love Lucy center on Lucy, Ricky, and her friendships with her landlords and neighbors, Fred and Ethel. Lucy, often the one who instigates and devises the plans, drags her willing friend Ethel through a maze of misguided schemes in hopes of becoming famous. Feeling challenged by Ricky, who opposes her not-so-brilliant ideas, Lucy retaliates with trickery and indiscretions that never work out as she planned. Adding to the comedy, when Ricky finds out what Lucy has done, he is so mad that he begins to yell in Spanish and it is obvious that Lucy does not understand what he is saying. By the end of the episode, Ricky has forgiven Lucy and all is well again. In Friends, Rachel’s relationships were more complex in that they
Three of the quotes have already been explained and related above. One quote which defines Rachel the most displays how she feels in regards to her sisters and mother. “I was so excited to be getting out of that horrid mud hole I couldn’t think straight. I’m sure I said goodbye to Mother and Adah and Leah, though I really don’t remember giving second thought to when I would ever see them again, if ever.
The characters on The Andy Griffith Show had a small comedic side, but the show was about doing the right thing and good moral values. Andy was constantly thinking of the other person(s) and there was always a good lesson learned every episode. In one episode, Andy and Otis decided to switch Aunt Bea’s pickles with store bought pickles, as the ones she made were terrible and they did not want to hurt her feelings or their stomachs. I Love Lucy on the other hand was all about the comedy. Lucy was frequently trying to find a way to get stuff done in an odd matter. In one of the episodes we watched Lucy tried to get the answers to a radio show she signed them up for as she found out Desi was not as smart as he made himself seem.
Rachel describes first meeting her new husband as something she will have to get used
Rachel is first introduced into the play at the very beginning where we see she has gone to the jail to visit her boyfriend Bert Cates. Rachel is very desperate to try and get Bert to just throw himself at the mercy of the court and admit that what he did was wrong. She just wants to be with him. As she enters the jail she speaks to Meeker saying “Mr Meeker, don’t let my father know I came here”, This quote portrays Rachel’s character very well. She is shy and lacks confidence, obviously worried of what would happen if her father found out she was visiting Cates, the enemy to her father at this point. She has lived her life in fear of her father and because of she followed everything
the time Rachel was married to Captain Lewis Robards, whose bad temper had driven Rachel
Although Rachel is very emotional, in the only dialogue between her and Mrs. Pierce she sounds very shy, unsure of herself, not ready to confront and timid.
Rachel grew up in a house hold where she had to grow up really quick. In her early teenage years she witnesses her mom struggle through abusive relationships with her step dad and other boyfriends that came after. She eventually became an alcoholic. By the time Rachel was 13 year old, she dropped out of school to take the role of the emotional and financial care taker of her mother. Living in her
and it’s not her’s. Rachel was sad and upset that day. Douglas and Rachel are similar because Douglas and Rachel are both children.
As a child and teenager Rachel (Ruth’s Jewish name) is intensely lonely, but she does connect with one friend in high school. How does that relationship influence her?
Nana is calm, kind, and honest when she lies. But sometimes she can be a pushover. I am inferring that maybe Lucy lost both of her parents when she was little. So that's why Lucy and her Nana live together. Obviously, Lucy has a strong relationship with her Nana.
Although their situation makes the reduction of uncertainty a lot more difficult because for Channing he remembers all the stuff they once did together, but Rachel cannot seem to place any remembrance on what they were like. She keeps remembering who she used to be before she met him, which was a completely different person. This causes him to get very frustrated with her, and this in turn puts a strain on them continuing of the reduction of uncertainty. There is a scene in the film where Channing takes Rachel out on a date and he brings her to all the places that they shared special moments at; where they first met, first date, and a ritual they would always do once a month. During this date the couple was able to talk and began to restart their relationship. I was able to see that from their communication it began to break the barrier between the couple, and allowed them to start to grow some feelings towards one another again. Where as in the film “Meet the Parents” the verbal communication between the father and the possible son-in-law they both do not know each other so everything is completely new about one another. I found that verbal communication actually decreased the chance of reducing the uncertainty between the two. For example the more they talked and learned about one another the more the conversation started to change because it helped them realize that they
George kisses Lucy for the second time and he explains that love exists between them. He tells Lucy that she can not marry Cecil because he does not understand women and will never understand Lucy. George also explains that Cecil only thinks that he loves but in actuality only wants her for an ornament. George, on the other hand, wants her as his partner in the great adventure of life. Lucy has lied to herself and to everyone else around her until she is eventually cornered into tearfully admitting her love for George.
Not only is Friends a comedy, it includes multiple plot twists. One of these plot twists is when Monica and Chandler start to date. Throughout the show up until this point, Monica spends time to tell Chandler that she is not interested which is especially outlined in an episode set at the beach, where Chandler tries to find any way to make Monica say she’d date him. An example of this is that he says “Okay, there’s an apocalypse and we are the last two people on Earth…” and Monica still responds with “eh.” This is what caused the decision for them to start dating to be a shock to everyone watching. Another plot twist was when Rachel got pregnant. This was clever writing because the show had been more focused on Monica and Chandler at that point, and when the pregnancy test was
Beyond racial divide, Kingsolver portrays how Rachel’s self-obsession leaves no room for her family in order
Charlotte routinely subjected Lucy to negative feelings and began to kill Lucy’s youthful spirit. As the novel progresses, Lucy becomes more aware of this, starting when she notices how Charlotte loved to eat up gossip as if “[nibbling] after blood” (320). A page later the narrator tells the reader that “it might be possible to be nice to [Charlotte]; it was impossible to love her” (321). Lucy could never really love Charlotte because Charlotte always tried to control her with the pessimistic views she learned as an old bachelorette. If she could never experience marriage, how dare Lucy be subjected to it, especially at the hands – or rather the lips – of George Emerson. The tension in Italy comes to a pretty dramatic head as Charlotte decides it best for the pair to hightail it out of Florence on account of George’s sneak attack kiss.
