Before I came to BYU-H, I had to take few tests in order to be accepted by BYU. First, I decided to take online classes. So, I took a couple of religion classes and EIL classes online. After I found out I would not be accepted even though I pass all the online courses, because I had no high school diploma. Therefore, I got connected with a language in Oregon. That was why I went to Oregon and gained my GED diploma there. I had great experiences learning English and discovered my interest in teaching there. While I was learning language there, not only my language skill was improved, but also my learning skills were developed. I was able to find my own experiences in language learning and share with other friends. I am currently living in
One day in 2011, I had an epiphany that I wanted to become the CEO of a hospital one day. The CEO of Rose Medical Center became aware of this and informed me that I could certainly have his job one day, but I must first go back to school and get my Master's degree. He is not the only person that has hounded me about going back to school. Many other managers, administrators and even family members have said the same. Clearly they see something in me that I had not quite yet see in myself. I think I am finally coming to the realization that if they think I can obtain a Master's degree, then I certainly possess the skills, knowledge and motivation to go back to school. It is time for me to shake up my content, routine life and take the step to bettering myself and fulfilling the commitment I made to myself on December 31,
I have a struggle in my life that is keeping me from achieving my goals. This struggle has hindered me from moving forward further in my life towards success. My particular struggle was not having my high school diploma, and without a diploma I was not where I wanted to be in my life . Nevertheless, something so simple as not passing a math test has hindered me from receiving a high school diploma. From that point on I was not where I wanted to be and I worked as a security for about a year. Then I moved on to working as a bus driver for the Broward County School board for eight years . During that time , my first child had now graduated from high school and earned his diploma . My daughter is a honor student who has a good grade point average
I believe that continuing my education is very important to my future, so I extend learning into my summer vacation. I complete my required summer reading and read numerous other books of my choice. Also I write essays like this to apply for college scholarships and to improve my writing skills. Finally, during my vacation I study for the ACT and the SAT which allows me to improve my scores and
Our written question for this week is answer the question “why do you want to go to college?” I want to go to college for three main reasons – my family, my career and my personal growth. The first reason I want to go to college is for my family. I want my children and grandchildren to not just hear me say education is important. I want my words to be associated with a tangible action. What better way to communicate this than to go to college and complete a degree. The second reason I want to go to college is for my career. I have worked in the IT industry in various positions for over 20 years and despite having experience, a glass ceiling exists for those of us without a college degree. I want to be able to move beyond that barrier
Everyone has heard of college, for it is the key to succeeding in today’s economy. Although the increase in demand for jobs require companies to be selective, competitiveness plays a big role in weeding out the best of the best in the different fields. The importance of a college degree is stressed more today as it serves to be the surest path to a stable middle class income. The reason I am choosing to get a college degree is because, it will give me an opportunity to pursue my dreams, it will give me the ability to live the life I want, and to raise the percentage of women in the medical field.
My educational life is what kept me from giving in to being like the people I’ve sadly been exposed to. Without the opportunities I was provided throughout my entire education, even from a young age, I would not have such a powerful determination to not be like the people I’ve been around that could have ended my life. I took advantage of the time I had despite of what I had to deal with at home to take part in extracurriculars. I took the time to expand on STEM activities and competitions all four years of my high school career and immerse myself in engineering to explore what I was capable of. By taking part in internships, co-op programs, the neuroengineering focus area of research that’s available and many other opportunities at Duke Engineering,
Some people say that the four years of high school are the best years of school. Others say that the four years of high school are the worst years of school, but I say that the four years of high school were the most influential in shaping my future goals and carving my character. Through the education and experiences gained at Lennox High School, I have grown into the person I am today.
The main challenge I face in pursuing my college degree is financial instability. I am originally from Northern California, and right before I entered college my mother lost our house and we had to move into a trailer. My mother is a single mother of three, and her salary does not cover my education which has lead me to take out loans. If it wasn't for the loan I took out, I would not be able to afford UCLA. The loan covers the majority of my housing, but out of pocket my mother is still paying 300 dollars every quarter. My father is not in the picture, he left when I was a child and I have not heard from him ever since. I do work to financially support myself at UCLA, but it barely covers my basic needs and makes it difficult to travel back
From a very young age I was aware of the importance of education and the amount of hard work it entailed. My mother decided to go back to school for nursing when I was six years old. Looking back, I remember her studying late into the night and attending study groups on weekends to facilitate her dream. It took her four years to complete her degree, a task that wasn’t easy for her since she was also raising four children, but this set a remarkable example for me. Watching my mother complete her goal taught me that you are in control of your own circumstances. Since the age of 18, I have been financially independent. I paid for (and continue to pay for) my undergraduate degree, as well as my post-baccalaureate studies, predominantly by working. As I continue in pursuit of my doctorate, working may not be a possibility and has forced me to explore other options. If awarded this financial need scholarship the additional money would help me; focus on my studies, decrease my loan amount and increase my overall quality of life.
More and more jobs require education beyond high school. With a two-or-four college education, your child will have more jobs from which to choose. On average a person who goes to college earns more than a person who does not. I plan to go to college because I want to get a good job. Another reason why I want to go to college is to expand my education and earn good money. College is right for me.
For some, college seems like a waste. They say it is “useless,” or a complete “waste of time.” But for me, that is not the case. College appeals to me for various reasons, including that it will prepare me for the real world. Attending college would be a huge honor for my family and myself, as I am a first generation student. My oldest sister did not graduate high school, and neither did my parents. They are so proud that my senior year of high school is coming to a close soon, and that I will be furthering my education. I also believe that going to college is crucial because there are things then that I will learn that I haven’t learned yet. I want to get the chance to meet new people. I want to be able to join new activities and get involved
Striving to reach my fullest potential has always been a long term goal of mine, I can recall studying hard for spelling bees in the first grade and running around the yard hoping to better my mile time. When I began high school I had the ambition to be one of the best students. I recall exploring the school and seeing a list of former graduates recognized as “high honors” and others who were remembered as students with great community involvement. I began my high school career in a few clubs and as years flew, I became more involved in the school community and volunteering at school blood drives and other vents. Eventually I was even elected onto the board of the National Honor Society. I strived to receive excellent grades and I did so through immense dedication. I have always been a motivated individual but my dedication runs to my roots. My roots in which began with two anxious hearts flying to the United States in the 1980s.
Earning my degree wasn’t hard for me. I come from a family where getting your college degree is like getting your high school diploma, it was mandatory. I prepared for college throughout my high school career so when it came time for college I knew what I had to do. Although I knew what to expect from college I didn’t realize how hard it would to be away from my family and I was not yet used to how hard the work might be; So when I started school I needed a lot of resources to keep up the grades that I saw fit for me. I studied hard, got help from the tutoring department and even went to professor office hours and I even called home every day to keep up with what’s going on with my family. Even though I missed my family I was a college student
Why do I want to go to college ,Why would I not want to go to college is the real question? All my life my parents have taught me that education is key to living a successful life.Getting a college education opens so many doors that do not open unless you have a college education I would also be one of the first in my family to go to college Oh my life my parents of stress to me the value of an education in doing this you told me that many doors were open once you get a college degree and if I choose not to get a degree that many doors will be closed in opportunities would not come because I'm not calling in saying that I don't want to be a person and doors close to me just because I didn't get a college education I want to be able to be
What I hope to do with my education is to earn my bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a minor in Spanish at Central Connecticut State University. I hope in college that I will be able to develop my skills into becoming an excellent writer, reporter, interviewer and speaker. With these skills, I aspire to become one of the first Hispanic/Latina sideline reporter for the YES Network Inc. Furthermore, I hope to one day host my own talk show to speak about important issues that pertain to the Latino community, such as education. I know what the value of an education is and how it should not be taken for granted. There are many countries from Latino origin where young children do not have the luxury to attend school nor learn the basic aspects of life. I hope with my platform and credentials, I can reach out to not only my community, but to
