He explains how automation has taken human jobs before and how it has created new jobs for us. And the same thing will happen in the future. The author also gives examples of how robots are becoming more and more available to the average human. He addresses people's concerns about robots by exploring the opportunities robots will bring and that their will still be jobs for humans that robots have not yet taken over. Kelly concludes his essay by reinforcing the idea that robots will have their place and that humans will “dream up new work that matters”(Kelly).

Unemployment has always taken America into its darkest ages; therefore, the United States needs to stay away from automation in order to prevent another employment downfall. By introducing intelligent machines into America, businesses will seek to acquire some of the technology. Since the machines don’t require a wage, businesses will increase in profit making them big barrels of money. While proponents of advancement argue that technology adds a high level job for every low level job it takes away, low class manufacturing jobs will not be the only newly-automated jobs. Due to rapid advancement, computers are projected to be one thousand times more powerful in the 2030s than computers today (McChesney and Nichols, 2016, 246). With these improvements, no human’s job is safe.

In Mr. Martin Ford’s Rise of the Robots, the author argues that the economic future is in danger due to technology overtaking the workforce. As technology becomes smarter, they have taken over the jobs that humans have previously done. However, it is not just simple tasks, but intricate tasks that require multiple steps, such as brain surgery. Mr. Ford presents a valid argument of that at the rate that technology is progressing, it will probably only be a few decades before robotics overtake the workforce.

The debate over whether robots are helping or hurting the workplace is more heated than ever. Advances in technology are soaring thus making an increase in the use of robots in the workplace more and more commonplace. Some believe the use of robots in the workplace can never totally result in the loss of jobs, but due to the fact that robots have invaded the workplace environment, many people fear this indicates replacement of human jobs. Although advancement in technology of robotics and artificial intelligence may offer precision, productivity, efficiency and flexibility, the loss of human jobs will be devastating to the many people who depend on their jobs to make a living and provide for their families.

One of the biggest controversies with the advancement of artificial intelligence is the debate on job automation. He mentions that manufacturing jobs are the jobs at the highest risk as these jobs can be automated by machines in the next several decades easily. People who are in low-paid and repetitive positions will also face unemployment if they do not shift to other fields such as computing, engineering, and science. Since machines allow manufacturers to save more time and money in production, they will choose to use machines instead of human power. Although new jobs are created due to the advancing technology, employees will must have several technical skills and computation knowledge in order to secure their jobs which cannot be replaced by machines. Demands for unskilled workers and artisans decrease and demands for skilled workers such as computer programmers increase because of technological change.
