It was just an ordinary day. The potent feelings of agony and disbelief raced through my mind. I sat frozen, intensely gripping the steering wheel, convincing myself that it wasn’t real.
The end of summer air was thick with heat and humidity. I was exercising on the elliptical when my phone buzzed. It was a text message from my friend Sophia, whom I hadn’t seen since the beginning of summer vacation. Her text message asked if we could meet up for lunch at Cava, both one of our favorite restaurants. I went onto the treadmill to conclude my workout, smiled, and thought to myself, “today is going to be a good day.”
After my workout, I rushed home to shower and get ready. I was so excited. I quickly said bye to my parents as I rushed out the

I slammed on my brakes and when I opened my eyes, I was no more than an inch away from hitting a fence. I sat frozen for a minute. I took a deep breath I looked out my right window to make sure the other driver involved in the accident hadn’t left the scene. Sophia and I got out of my car and noticed the right backside door of my car was completely indented and part of my tire was missing. That was when I realized what had just happened. I felt the rage a driver feels when colliding with a deer that came out of nowhere. You’re angry because you didn’t see the deer coming. You feel bad for the deer and contemplate whether you did something wrong but then you see the damage that the deer caused your car. I threw my arms up in the air and stormed over to the other driver. The other driver was a woman about fifty years old. Before I even had the chance to ask her what happened, the woman told me that a pole was blocking her view of my car and then went on to accuse me of speeding.
With heat flooding my body, I told the woman not to leave and I walked back over to my car. I grabbed my insurance and took pictures of the damage. I felt tears coming out of my eyes and rushed to call my mom. It went to voicemail. I took a deep breath and called my dad. It went to voicemail as well. I didn’t know when my parents would call me back and knowing that my brother was at work, I called my uncle. As soon as he answered, I started crying explained to him what happened. When my
Twenty minutes has past and the ambulance has finally gotten here. Two people got out of the car. They opened the back door. My friends help me up into the back of the car. On our way my friend called my parents that I have broken my leg. They hurried and were off to the hospital.
The driver’s side was flat down on the road, while the passenger side was in the air. The truck had pieces that shattered off of it, as if it was all made of glass. My mom ran over to make sure my brothers were alive and could talk. My mom was yelling at my brothers to see if they were okay, and she got a response. They were okay, but David tried to open the passenger door, but it was stuck. I was screaming in fear, while my sister was holding me back from running to the truck. As I was screaming, worrying that they weren’t okay, a fire broke out underneath the truck. My dad yelled, “The trucks on fire!” My mom started to try and kick in the wind shield, while my dad took off his shirt and started to try and put the fire out. This made me frantic even more, causing me to fight against my sister, telling her to let me go. As Anna was holding me back, she contacted my sister a block away, telling her that my brothers got in a back accident. My brother Andrew decided that they had no choice but to try and do something. Do to the injury he got on his left arm, he had to try and get his seat belt off, and push past David to stand up. He stood up, and used all his force a managed to slam the passenger door open. Andrew helped get David out, and then he climbed out. As they turned back and saw the fire still on the truck, a few choice words were expressed, cuss word, cuss word, cuss
As we drove up, we saw our navy blue Subaru Legacy have the front just broken and the back of a 1974 Ford Ranger with a broken back light and some scratches. The Rangers forest green paint job looking spectacular, except for the area my sister hit it. My sister was over on the sidewalk looking sick and terrified. She was as pale as a paper. We asked a plethora of questions. My parents asked the kind senior man about his insurance information and the steps my family was going to do solve the issue. The man was kind and nice and was happy to help, but I was angry. After knowing that my sister was safe, I was angry that she was that unaware. The glass from her light and other objects filled the side of the road. I picked them up and noticed that there was a wire coming from a broken piece of glass. I told my father and he said to just leave it be, the
I walked outside the next morning feeling great. The bright vibrant sun shone on the freshly mowed grass. I loaded into my sister's car and we went off to school. The day passed extremely rapid,
You could tell my brother was screaming as much as he could with his small little lungs. I quickly ran over to our tiny bathroom wondering what was going on. There you could see my little brother using all his force to hold up my mom who had fainted on our cement floor. Even with the two of us repeatedly yelling at her to wake up, her eyes stayed closed. I began to really worry. I ran over to her bedroom and scurried through my blanket looking for my phone. As my sister dialed 9-1-1, I ran back into the bathroom where my brother was sobbing. My sister had already called my aunts and cousins over. They were all trying to help wake her up. They called out her name multiple times. They also hovered rubbing alcohol under her nose, in hopes of her waking up. I let my brother know that everything was going to be fine and that the ambulance would be here in no time to help my mom. I was shaking as I sat next to my brother helping him hold up my mom. My older cousin took our spots and helped sit my mom up.
Picking up my head followed by my body, I reach over my bed to get my phone. Turning my phone on, I hear my mom scream up to me, “Sofia you need to get into the shower now!” Hopping out of my bed my sister comes racing out of her room storming down the stairs. Not knowing what her problem was nor caring, I grab a towel from the closet, place it onto the rack and get into the shower. After singing like a total freak in the shower, I calmly pick up my phone looking at the time not noticing it was already 7:00 and check my social media for a good ten minutes. Finally realizing I was running late, I quickly blow dry my hair and throw whatever clothes on that I see. I grab my shoes, book bag and sprint directly to the door. I say goodbye to my parents and both my dogs, Torino and Gus, which I never normally do that, but I just did that day for some reason.
Imagine one is in a car accident after hitting a deer and almost killing one of your best friends. This was the situation in my book “WTF”. On October 17th Jimmy and Cam were driving in a stolen car without a license on a stormy fall night. As they were driving on a dark back road, a deer jumped out in front of the car and Jimmy slammed into it.
I looked down to see an incomplete text that read, “Almost th-.” Swallowing my guilt, I called my parents and explained what happened. My parents and the police arrived. As my parents ran towards me, I clenched my teeth and fists partly to ease my pain, but to also get ready for them to chew me out. Surprisingly, they hugged me and were glad I was okay. I told the police what happened and he handed me a big, fat ticket for speeding and rear-ending the man. I turned to my parents and repeatedly told them sorry and that I would pay for everything. Choking on my tears I told them I would stay and get the car towed. My mother pulled me close to where I was eye to eye with her. I could see tears whaling up in her eyes; she began to wipe the now crusted blood off my face and arm. She smiled and said, “You’re going to that dance. You are lucky to be alive. Go
It all happened so quickly. One moment, a boy was waving to his friends, and the next, he was lying in the street. I heard the screech of brakes and a loud crash. The car’s windscreen was completely shattered. People were screaming and crying, and without thinking, I ran into the street, knelt down beside him, and called 911.
I just could not believe what happened. My night was going so good, then all of a sudden it turned into a nightmare. The entire ride home I just stared out the window at the pitch black sky. My dad and I never spoke a word the whole time. When we approached the place where I wrecked, I tensed up and closed my eyes. It made me sick to my stomach to see the truck upside down. The next thing I knew we were pulling into my driveway. When I got inside, I hugged my dad and told him I loved him and I was sorry for what happened. I then did what the nurse said and went in the shower. As I stood in the shower with the warm water hitting my face, the accident kept playing over and over in my head. With all of the glass and dirt washed out of my hair, I went to bed. It was beyond relaxing to lay in my bed. I layed there for a few moments, then slowly drifted to
As a new driver, I am constantly worried of hitting other objects such as cars, mailboxes, and animals. When deer jump out from the side of the road, I worry that they may cause deadly accidents. Gorman’s article interested me because if there is
“MOM WHERE ARE WE GOING!!!” I said, feeling like I could burst at any moment it's a horrible thing to be car sick when you don't know what to do about it. “Don't worry dolly we will be there any second now” said Sharon, but I just know her as mom. “I think i'm dying!” I said, sinking into the back car seat. Mom didn't say anything as with my brother they just smiled. I wondered if they could see something I couldn't so I forced my body to sit up and unbuckle my seatbelt as my eyes lit up as if I saw an angel. It felt like everything was in slow motion. For months now I've been dying to go to Six Flags for one day and today was that day! “Do you feel better deer or should we go back home” mom said with an evil smile glancing at me through
Smack!! Just like that the semi hit us. I saw my dad in the driver's seat and my mom in the passenger's seat, her brown hair covered in blood holding my dad's bloody hand I look over at my brother Henly not a mark on his beautiful red hair. Then I looked down, I was like my brother, not a mark on my blond hair. I heard the ambulance pull up so I got out of the car and stated to the nice man, “I was okay but my parents are bleeding and my brother isn't responsive.”
Then, I begin driving and heading home listening to some old summer songs and gazing at the scenic lively orange sunset. A red traffic light was ahead of me and the Silver Toyota Camry in front of me touched her breaks and so I followed. My car was almost on a complete stop and then I heard a thunderous noise, the airbags deployed, my body hit my steering wheel and my car hit the Camry in front of me. My heart begun aching and beating certainly fast. I just rested there trying to figure out what had happened. Then a tall thin male that appeared to in his early twenties arrived and removed me out of my car. He said, “I am so sorry for rear-ending your car, I wasn’t paying attention.” I was confused. I was furious. The police, fire truck,
As time seemed to slow down around me, I saw things I never thought I’d see. Because of our speed, I saw how the tail end of our car would swing out far enough to hit the small hatchback, injuring the mother and teenager in the front seats. I also saw the bullet fired from the NYPD police cruiser behind us, the glass from the passenger window seemingly floating in mid-air, as it just barely missed my lifelong “friend.” But as time around me slowed, I did the worst thing possible; I thought.
