In “I Want a Wife” by Judy Brady, Brady displays her thoughts about the conventions of marriage and the social pressure that women faced at the time (1971). On the other hand in “The Story of an Hour.” by Kate Chopin, she creates a story in which a woman believes she is free from her bonds of marriage when she finds out she is not she dies from a heart attack.
One line in “The Story of an Hour” that conveys this is “... a long procession of years to come that would belong to her absolutely.(14)” This reveals Chopin's feeling of freedom after learning her husband has died. This shows that she felt trapped under the oppression of her marriage. Another line that shows her distaste of marriage is “It was Brently Mallard who entered.(21)” This
