I want to be a peer advisor so that I can help Exploring and Transfers students to focus on fixing their faults as students, so they may reach their full potential, just as my peer advisor, Kia Seagall, did for me. I was disappoint after I have gotten a C+ on my first paper. I put my pride aside, and asked Kai to look at my paper. After reading less than a page, she told me to read my paper aloud. I was reading, when she said, “that’s not what it says. You wrote defiantly instead definitely.” Instead of reading what was on the page, my mouth was saying what my mind wanted it to say. Every time I would skip over my mistake, Kia would point it. After she had found mistakes in my third paper, which I had re-read and proofread aloud for the
My chosen career path is to be a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Therapist and proceed to graduate school to become an Occupational Therapist. Lifespan can affect my career depending on what age group I am working with. For example, the older generation is now living longer so I must acquire the skills to assist their leisure and recreational needs because not many adaptions have been made. If I am working with a person who is 80 years old and wants to ability to paint her nails again, I will have to adapt the tools I am given so she can grip the nail polish handle again. When I am working with kids I must be aware of what stage they are at in life. If they are in preoperational stage they won’t have the ability to think how others feel. Also, knowing that they are in this stage I can utilize what activities we do because this stage they are known for engaging in a lot of symbolic play. Lastly, lifespan development influences my career because it helps me understand who they are and why they act the way they do. If a young girl has an eating disorder, I could find the what’s causing it. I might find out she hit puberty earlier triggering this behavior and can help her cope with that. Therefore, by understanding my client’s background I can personalize the therapy to meet her needs.
The peer review worksheet was a great help in providing us a guide of how to begin our meeting. However, prior to the meeting Tiana and I been communicating through email and exchanging our paper. We first touch base with each other, by asking how we are doing. For example, we express our thoughts and check to make sure we also did other assignments that was related to the course. Then, we answer each other questions regarding the paper. For example, the structure our paper, the contains, and our one on one. We discuss where we are at on our paper and what we still needed to touch up on. I shared her my peer feedback worksheet. Such as, her paper does make me feel like I was reading an article about personality disorder. She also shared me

Robert F. Kennedy, brother of president John F. Kennedy, is quoted saying, “Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.” Throughout my life certain events whether they be high or lows, triumphs or failures, have shaped my desire to earn a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in pursuit of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor.
I believe that I have many skills and experiences that will allow for me to be a great counselor. I have seen first hand, experienced first hand, and learned to deal with things first hand. I experience anxiety, but have learned how to cope and deal with it. It is not always easy when there are so many things that can be thrown at you through life. I have a lot of motivation, qualities, experiences, and goals that I can bring to counseling.
It wasn’t till she asked “How does it feel not being able break down the morals of the story given to you?” I said that it made me sad and frustrated because I wanted to succeed and do my best and it felt like I am letting my family down. After that she told me you see what you just did right there, you told me how you felt without hesitation or over thinking the question. After she explained that to me it became easier for me and I felt proud and accomplished that I understood reading and writing on all sides of the cylinder. When I was going to school my teachers always praised me about my work and how I always did great in class. Another problem started to develop though; I started to get scared because a lot of people saw me as the odd ball of the class because I was all about my business and my work when I went to
With this course: The ultimate goal would be to learn as much information as possible, so it could translate to my work when I become a PTA. I want to learn information about the history of physical therapy, because not only does it interest me, it gives me a solid foundation of knowledge about the profession itself. I want to achieve excellence in this course, in order to progress to the next section of knowledge adequately. My goal is to do well in every aspect of the class, and if need be ask for help if it becomes necessary. I intend to not only meet my goals, but to go above and beyond my own expectations. My general goal for this course is simply to expand my knowledge in order to progress to the next step. I
Szczepanek about my situation was earlier in the private from the outside of the class. She was apologizing me for forgot that our appointment that we were supposed to meet in her office. Therefore, I gave my essay print to her and she was beginning to lectured us in the English for the 50 minutes. After the English class was over, I was leaving to see my friend in the other building. In the meantime, when I got back to my dorm and checked mycourses.rit.edu in the computer. I was shocking to found it out that she gave me a “F” grade on my first essay. After that, I was becoming angry and emailed and questioned her about why did she gave me a “F” grade on my first essay. I felt that I never understand why I got a bad grade and questioned myself every time I asked, “Why”. Eventually, she responded me back in the email and she said that it was wrong, which it leads me to become a confused and what does she means by that. On the contrary, I was expected that I should get “A” grades on my first essay, because the NTID tutor helped me a lot. Thus, I was transferred to other English class that I wanted the good instructor and able to get my grade was better in the next semester. Under those circumstances, suddenly, I was become upset with the fact about the grade on my first essay that I don’t understand her very well. My first impression about her was nice, but in reality, it is not. Because she wasted my time for the appointment and haven’t enough explain why she gave me a bad grade. Behind that, I am new as freshman student and I never thought that it would be happen to me for the first
In order to pursue my dream career in being an addictions counselor, I require a higher level of schooling to ensure that I will be doing a good job and be the perfect fit for my clients. There is a lot of courses that one can take in order to be an addictions counselor, but for me I got my eye on three. Firstly, I will need to have more studies in maths, this can be about any high level math class like algebra or business mathematics. For example, Indeed shares that you need to use math to understand how to build successful statistics (Ring). Thus, as an addictions counselor, I must be able to calculate factors like a drugs dosage and what it means to my client quickly in my head. Secondly, I will need to know about alcohol and drug abuse to be an effective counselor, this class is essential to be an addictions counselor.
After a brief discussion she asked me to write an essay so she could understand my writing abilities. So, I sat in a room and it was timed writing test similar to the SAT and felt as if I did really well again. However, she read my essay and spoke with me and said, “To become a better writer, you have to learn from other writers.” She believe it or not told me to come back in two weeks after I finish reading a whole SAT writing book.
I have always known that it is my passion to help people. This is why upon graduating I attended Mohawk College to pursue a career as an Educational Assistant. After receiving my diploma I began my career helping children with special needs. On a daily basis I have interactions with social workers and children who are involved with the Catholic Children’s Aid Society. I have had many eye opening experiences during my time spent with them. I have worked alongside our school’s Social Worker and have gained insight into mental health. Being an E.A. is rewarding, but I have come to the realization that I aspire to do more for children in need; I wish to become a social worker.
Counseling is a relatively young profession when compared to other mental health professions. In my brief personal and professional experience with the field, I have come to define counseling as a process of engagement between two people, both of whom are bound to change through a collaborative process that involves both the therapist and the client in co-constructing solutions to concerns.
Having the opportunity of being an educational teacher gives insight and clarity to future opportunities. The job of being a teacher is endless, and come with long hours, and most of all love. It is only natural that the pursuit of a next career follows the passion of working with students. It is a teachers’ wish to have that extra time outside of a lesson plan to help a student. Unfortunately, time is squeezed in as the bell is ringing and hopefully a few words are uttered that are encouraging and show a teacher cares. Thus, a short-term goal that is substantial to assist all types of students is becoming a professional education counselor. The long-term goal that is foreseen after years of experience is being a psychologist. Of course time is needed to cultivate skills that are necessary
With basketball completely out of the equation, my quintessential career path would be to become some sort of counselor. Before jumping to conclusions assuming a counselor is someone who just sits back with a pen and notepad all day giving the occasional “how does that make you feel”, a lot of things need to be taken into consideration about how much time, and effort and strenuous work is required to pursue this career path. A counselor (depending on what field) is typically someone who uses therapeutic techniques to help patients strengthen existing qualities and skills used in everyday life. Ideally I would like to become a school counselor to begin coping with the minds of the youth, then hopefully move on from there. In order to do so
We had to take our paper the day it was due and then we were paired up. Our partners had the responsibility to revise our papers and make comments on the papers. After we were given the opportunity to write our papers with the changes our partners had made. I was partnered with a girl I did not know. When reading her paper I could not understand what she was writing about. Her verb tenses were not correct and she had a lot of misspelled words. When I was making the changes I felt bad because I did nit want her to think because I spoke Spanish I was being very critical of her paper. I did not want her to receive a bad grade on her paper. I decided to ask the professor if I could take my partner outside of the classroom and explain the changes I made to her paper. When we were alone I told her that I do not want her to take it the wrong way but her paper did not make sense. I started explaining to her all the mistakes she made. At first I though she was going to be upset because I was changing her whole paper. When we were finished she was thankful for all the help I offered her. She told me that she was struggling in Spanish and she had a lot of trouble writing the paper. I
