I believe the one thing that every human being has in common is that we all strive to triumph and fulfill our dreams to their fullest potential. Since the day we are born we attach ourselves towards a common goal and we spend every day trying to reach beyond that goal, trying to reach our self-actualization point. All my life I have forfeited my time, effort, and dreams trying to make a difference in this world, whether it be by volunteering at hospitals/libraries, cooking food for soup kitchens, or tutoring younger peers at my high school. The one thing I have learned throughout all my experiences is that life is short and we must do whatever we can to make a difference. With the hopes of achieving my dreams I volunteer every Saturdays from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Community Medical Center where I receive calls from family members, talk to nurses, deliver gifts to the sick and hand out visitor passes. In addition to volunteering at the hospital, I also …show more content…
In my family I have various cousins with disabilities and because I was unable to help them, in exchange I want to help other people instead. I always get asked the question of why I want to work with people with special needs and my response is always the same. It is because everyone complains about the smallest most irrelevant things, but the people who have the right to complain the most appreciate the world and its flaws. That is the reason I want to help these people, because even after all the good and the bad they have been through, they still have a smile on their face and that to me is true beauty. Unlike many people who are satisfied with the concept of wealth and fame for their future, my satisfaction will be when someone thanks me for helping their loved one. When I will be able to put a smile on someone else’s face and help them master their
Empathy towards people with disabilities is a quality that I consider has been deep-seated in me since an early age. For example, when I was ten years old, while watching the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) telethon, I was moved to do a fundraiser in my community. All the money raised was sent to the MDA. This made me aware that we can all contribute in some way or another to the good of others. Later on, after completing my high school, I decided to pursue a degree in Physical Education and recreation for children with disabilities. Working as an Adeptive Physical Educator gave me the opportunity to change the lives of many students. The years invested in this occupation brought me great personal and professional satisfactions that still follow me to this
Volunteering at Texas Health Presbyterian Plano is my way of giving back to the community while developing critical social skills, and gaining important medical field exposure along the way. It’s an opportunity to change a person’s life, including my own. I volunteered at two hospitals last summer and I’m well acquainted with what volunteering entails and would more than love to do it again. Through this hospital volunteer program, I hope to discover my own passions and talents, while also developing skills that I will utilize throughout my entire high school and college experience.
Cedars-Sinai is a place that offers a wide variety of opportunities to volunteer within health providing services. As a student that is driven to pursue a career in the health field in order to improve the service of patients, I am interested in aiding doctor, nurses, physician assistants, and more in providing the quality care that all patients should receive. Additionally, I am interested in participating in the amazing programs that Cedars-Sinai offers for students such the TCAB and the Pre-Healthcare Volunteer programs. If I have the opportunity to participate in these programs, I would ultimately be open to aid in a wide range of duties. I am fully committed to help, to volunteer, and to learn.
During my junior year, connections through Sports Medicine exposed me to the hospital environment. After volunteering for a few hospital events, I decided to apply for a permanent volunteer position at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. I now work on a Med/Surg nursing unit weekly, and I love giving back to my community in this way. The Sports Medicine Program is the educational opportunity that enabled me to explore and expand my passion for serving others, and led me toward pursuing a career in
I plan to continue the mission of the National Health Service Corp (NHSC) by serving those most in need. Ever since I was in nursing school, I have had an interest in helping those most in need. I worked in a hospital setting after graduation and found myself being pulled to find help for patients that did not have access to basic needs. Soon after, I worked in home health. This was an opportunity to see patients in their home and I found out quickly who the most vulnerable of our patients were. I loved being able to assist my patients in finding resources to pay for medications, wheelchair ramps, and even heat during the cold months. A couple of jobs later, I found out there was a medical ministry in my community and decided to volunteer.
Over the summers of high school I have been a volunteer at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. My duties as a volunteer included cleaning up cages, kennels, floors, and dishes, as well as comforting and walking the animals. I have loved animals for as long as I remember, so it was very satisfying to be able to help out these animals in need. My favorite part was seeing how much their days were made just by getting some care and affection. Furthermore, I have just recently started volunteering at the Mercy Hospital. I think volunteering at the hospital will help expand my knowledge of health career jobs and medical terminology. I plan to volunteer a large amount of my time to help out the patients and staff at
From a young age, I have always wanted to understand other people’s thoughts and feelings. As I have grown older, I have grown even more curious about not only understanding people, but learning how to help them. With this guiding me, my future career goal is to become an Occupational Therapist. Occupational Therapists work with a wide variety of people to help them overcome obstacles in their lives in order to achieve a better quality of life. I specifically hope to work with young children, adolescents, and teens who suffer from emotional, mental, or cognitive impairments. This is due to growing up in a family who fostered challenged children, having siblings with their own challenges, and having many young friends who could have benefitted
“What do you want to be when you graduate high school?,” my mother asked me. She has asked me this specific question my entire life but today she wanted an answer. I was seventeen, only a month away until my eighteenth birthday, so it was time for me to make a decision. I told her I did not know and she started to list a bunch of career options I could pursue. She continue to go on and on then, she said Occupational Therapist. My mom described to me what Occupational Therapist did and their job responsibilities. That is when I decided that this is the career for me. I am driven to become an Occupational Therapist because I want to provide for my future family, and to grow spiritually and mentally in the process.
Aside from keeping volunteering as a constant aspect of my life, I would like to volunteer at St. David’s Medical center because I would be able to learn about working in a hospital and in the medical field as I volunteer. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in biology and graduate school is a must, but I have yet to decide of medical school is the path I want to embark on. Volunteering at a medical center would give me the insight on not only particular jobs in various departments, but I would also have the privilege of experiencing the atmosphere of a hospital.
I later enrolled in a practical nursing program, in pursuit of my dream of becoming a nurse. While taking my prerequisites, I decided to volunteer at a local hospital in the emergency department. At the hospital, I assisted with transporting patients within the facility, preparing rooms for incoming
My community service work at County Hospital is to care for the rudimentary needs of each patient. My goals are to provide inspiration during the healing process, teach kindness and compassion, and discover my own abilities for empathy. "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I'll try again to tomorrow (Mary Anne Radmacher)." My hope as a volunteer is to help each patient find that voice, find that courage to go forward.
Wow, what a servants heart he has!!! This information can be applied to the teaching profession in such a way that educators can focus on the aspect of student’s being compassionate towards others and creating opportunities where they can contribute towards helping others. Within my professional practice, I would consider engaging in conversations to have my students share their interests as to how they would like to help others. Then I would create special opportunities just so my student’s could make those interest of sharing and helping a reality because I, like Snow believe that everyone wants and need to feel
Volunteering at the hospital has without a doubt, have had a huge impact on me in terms of what career I want to pursue and why I want to pursue it. Over the summer, I assisted the nurses in maternal fetal medicine with clerical work. While I was creating charts of patients and organizing their information, I realized that I want a job that entails a hands-on experience and one that allows me to establish a connection with patients – rather than having a job that pertains to clerical duties. Moreover, after observing and meeting what the nurses and other healthcare professionals at the hospital do, I knew I want a job where I could make a greater impact in people’s lives.
Hi I am Sara Thueme. I am currently working at Troy Beaumont in the cardiac progressive care unit. I have been a nurse on this unit for a little over a year and a half now. Prior to this I was a veterinary technician. I did and still do many community events as well to help animals in need. I don’t have much experience working with the community in the human field. As a nursing student with St. Clair Community College we did a blood pressure screening with the community. I also did a project for one of my classes at St. Clair Community College with the elderly about risk factors of heart disease at a senior living center. I am actively doing walks for March of Dimes, MS and American Cancer Society each year to raise money and awareness.
After being in the class for two full semesters, I have gained more knowledge about the medical field and am now Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certified. In early October, I started to volunteer at Fresno Community Hospital. With great pride I was able to volunteer in the Operation Room, Emergency Room, Endoscopy, Pediatrics, and in the Intensive Care Unit. I wanted to volunteer at Fresno Community Hospital because I wanted to make a change in the community. Each and every day I came in, I had a smile on my face and greeted anyone I saw come in the make their day a little
