After going through a lot of trial and error in my career, I have decided that I want to pursue being a Registered Nurse. Many things have led me to this career choice, including personal and financial gain. I have tried many other occupations and educational programs and none of them have fulfilled me like I believe nursing will. It has taken me a long time to get to this point and I often joke that I finally know what I want to be when I grow up. I will tell you about my journey and what I hope to gain in my future. I had always been told that I was supposed to do well in high school, go on to college, and then I would be able to get a good job. So, that is exactly what I did, and that was not my case. I first went …show more content…
I quickly found that this was not the field for me. I did not have the patience for it and hated every day of it. I then took a job as a Patient Access Representative in an emergency room. I loved the hospital environment and the fast pace of the job but the pay was not something I could live with for the long term. I continued to apply for criminal justice positions and continued to get rejection letters. I then started hearing about Paralegal studies being a lucrative field. So I looked into obtaining an A.S. degree in Paralegal Studies. The program was not very long and I decided to give it a try. Once again I had run into the same road block. This time when I applied for open positions, I was told that law firms were looking for someone with a Paralegal certificate and experience. Now I was really dumbfounded. I just could not imagine that attorneys would be more interested in hiring someone with a certificate instead of a degree. I guess I could have gotten a certificate but at that point I was very hesitant about putting any more time or money into that venture.
By this time I had relocated to Atlanta, GA from Savannah, GA thinking the opportunities would be better. Once again I was unable to find a job to pay me what I thought someone with a degree should be paid. I turned down numerous jobs for a few months until I realized that earning some money was a lot better than earning no money. So I took a job at
The tasks of a nurse fascinates me; I have had several opportunities to observe nurses in hospitals and I find their work intriguing. I have always been interested in the health field and performing the jobs of a medical professional. Ever since the age of twelve, I have known I wanted to attend a university and pursue a career in the health field. I have always had an interest in my science courses, specifically biology and chemistry and have excelled in these areas. I want to be able to receive the best education possible and make my parents and community proud. I wish to do more for my community than just being a typical nurse and I will be able to do more by becoming a nurse practitioner.
I have not stopped researching and planning my education and career future. Through my experiences working my way up the nursing ladder I have developed a solid professional identity as a nurse. My conviction that nursing is my calling is reaffirmed every day through my work. I know that in order to achieve my goals, while best serving others in the community, I need to continue my education to become a family nurse practitioner.
During my life I was taught education is important to make it in today’s society. So because of that I went to school for C.N.A. (Certified Nursing Assistant) straight out of high school in 1992. After working in this field for a couple years I decided that this field wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I then decided to work in the Customer Service field with varies companies like BellSouth in the repair department and Carnival Cruise Line in the reservation department. In June of 2003, I took a break to have my third daughter that was premature. After being out of work for about two years I decided to go back to school. I enrolled in University of Phoenix to study Healthcare Administration. After completing the degree in Healthcare
After persuing your career as a Registered Nurse, dramatic changes will be very noticable in your life. You will find yourself doing things you'd never thought you'd do, and also seeing a variety of things you never imagined seeing. Being in the career path as such, can bring on a healthier, yet less stressful lifestyle. Becoming a Registered Nurse would be a life changer. Some ways becoming a Registered Nurse would impact my life are the good pay and benfits, having the ability to save others lives, and also being able to motivate younger kids and teenagers to persue their dream in becoming a RN.
Going back to when I was a novice nurse, I was nervous, scared, afraid of making medication error, charting errors or fail to recognized patients worsening symptoms. These fears, made me vigilant, focused and kept me on my toes at all times. No matter which part of nursing I ended up as I grew up the from medical surgical nursing to stepdown unit nursing to intensive care nursing, I felt those fears in every step of my growth and they helped me be a better nurse for my pateints. Today, I am in the advanced practitioner program to become a nurse practitioner who is responsible for: interviewing, assessing, diagnosing, counseling and treating patients. To provide safe and quality healthcare, I am expected to have good critical thinking and decision making abilities (Maten-Speksnijder, Grypdonck, Pool, & Streumer, 2012). while I can recognize clinically deteriorating patients and recommend treatments, I am now responsible for providing treatments. I am now recognizing that facts about being not only responsible for the patient, but also to provide safe care that keeps the patient out of the hospital and out of the ICU. Knowing these facts, I am yet again, faced with the fears of my limited clinical practice knowledge as a practitioner. The amount of information that I have received and learned during this clinical rotation was both exciting and overwhelming at the same time, because I realized as a novice student nurse practitioner (NP), the limited depth of

A Registered Nurse is a nurse that provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members (What is Nursing?).
My number one reason for making the transition from a Licensed Practical Nurse to a Register Nurse is because I want to be able to explore other job opportunities. I currently, and have only ever worked in Long Term Health Care. I love my job and the people I take care of but, I am wanting to explore other options and get away from the monotony of being in long term care. I would really like to try and pursue a career in Emergency Medicine as a nurse. To do that I need the extra skills and knowledge that a Registered Nurse has.
What they do Registered nurses help provide and organize patient care, they provide advice and support for patients and the families. R.Ns duties and titles vary often depending on where and who they work for, so they could be doing many different things.

Having to do things that day to day people think is disgusting. Dealing with blood, giving people shots, sickness, infections. Thinking about it such as to who would ever want to deal with that? Making people feel better can make a difference. The decision to be an RN was taking a trip to urgent care a late afternoon evening. Those RN's and Doctor helped what was hurting and it was similar to walking out a different person. Growing up throughout the years and maturing , being an RN is a dream job. A registered nurse requires an education and many skills to succeed (“Registered Nurses: Occupational Outlook Handbook:: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics”).
What are your career aspirations? The career I have chosen to pursue is nursing. There are several different types of nurses but I want to become a registered nurse. Becoming a registered nurse is not an easy job.
I’ve always second guessed what I wanted to do when I got older, but my mind always went back to one thing, nursing. I knew that this was what I wanted to do since I first played with a toy nursing set, even though I have tried to find other things to interest me. When I got a little older I realized there were different types of nurses for example a Nurse Practitioner or a Midwife Nurse. Hopefully when I go to Cleveland to attend Cleveland State University I will receive a lot of experience when getting my BSN Degree. There are a lot of opportunities for a Registered Nurse to have because they don’t just stick to one thing, a Registered Nurse could become a Neonatal Nurse, a Midwife, a Physician's Assistant and many other things.
Before the age of eighteen, I had lived in three countries. My father’s career as a doctor and scientist of Military, Disaster & Extreme Medicine took my family throughout Kazakhstan, Russia, and the Ukraine. Although it was a challenge for me to continually adapt to new places and learn three languages, I am grateful for the cultural exposure that traveling provided me. In every new environment I was raised to treat others with equal respect and kindness regardless of any differences or similarities we may have had. This exposure has taught me that successful acclimation lies in the ability to interact well with people from diverse backgrounds. Here, in a country of immigrants, I have met people from countries all around the world. The Nursing field provides me the opportunity to help all people regardless of age, sex or ethnicity. I seek a Nursing degree here in the United States in order to increase my knowledge and to be able to practice in the field of professional nursing. My goal of becoming a Registered Nurse has long been encouraged by my personal interest in the profession and by my experience, previous education and achievements. These factors continue to motivate and inspire my desire to seek this degree and become a healthcare professional.
When I graduated from high school, I was admitted at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I enrolled in the School of Business. My major was Accounting. I did so to please my parents and what I thought would be the best fit. I was not very happy, and I must confess that I was bored to death. After two years of studying something that I did not like, I changed my focus to School of Social Work. I was taking elective classes in Social Work/Mental Health Counseling and realize that this field held my interest and really represented how I viewed myself and the world. I was out from College for 5 years. Working with the Department of Social Services and numerous nonprofit organizations. For the last 5 years I have been working as a Social Worker for Department of Social Service Child Protective Service Investigator. I actual love my job because it is customer (client) oriented and I got to practice my counseling skills indirectly and directly with my clients I encounter on an daily
