The potential profession I am going to pursue is Radiology. Radiology deals with taking x-rays of the body and diagnosing what you find wrong. How the radiology unit works is getting a patient and having the radiologist technician take images of the body by using machines. Different types of machines such as, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and positron emission tomography (PET), identify all the images being taken of the human body (Phillip Costello, 2014). After the images have been taken they are sent to the radiologist to be interpreted. After being interpreted the patient is then told their diagnoses. Each of these steps involves writing in a certain form. Writing is a form of communication in the …show more content…
The radiologist technician takes the x-ray of a certain part of the body needed for the radiologist to interpret. The technician can write side notes about the patient while taking the x-ray. After it is taken they are given to the radiologist to interpret. The radiologist will then write a report or diagnosis of what the x-ray shows of the patient. These can show tumors, blood flow, and inflammation. The radiologist writes this interpretation for physicians to read. They often give the patient a diagnosis. After interviewing Dr. Clyde Helms who had worked at Duke Hospital of Radiology Medicine we discussed how writing is important, what the diagnosis of x-rays are mostly about and how long they are. “The most common topic is variable – ranging from fractures to cancer.”(Helms, 2014) The writing of the interpretation can be multiple pages but is usually short. It is important for the radiologist to be specific because the physician will diagnose the patient. During the day radiologists will have to interpret a lot of scans of different parts of the body. Today technology helps speed up the process for radiologists so they do not have to write, instead they talk into a microphone that recognizes their voice and writes the information in the computer for them. The microphone isn’t as efficient as the radiologists want to be but it still helps in the end. The microphone isn’t as efficient because it doesn’t pick up exactly what the
In the field of occupational therapy a lot of writing is required from doctors and students becoming therapists. The question that constantly crossed my mind was why do they need to write? Before I began to research the writing styles and practices that took place in the field, I knew I needed to educate myself about Occupational therapy. I scheduled interviews with a licensed occupational therapist and a student studying to be one to help me understand what took place in their field of work as a student and as an experienced therapist. In addition to studying and reading magazines, medical journals, etc. to spread my understanding of occupational therapy. So, I could understand why they use certain types of writing styles and
Radiologic technology is a satisfying and rewarding career. It is a technical and refined science. As a radiological technologist, there are many essential duties and responsibilities that have to be fulfilled in order to be a good one. First of all, radiological technologists have to maintain a well-mannered and professional behavior when gathering information. They have to assure their patients that they are in good hands therefore; they give patients the uppermost quality of care and services. Second of all, the main responsibility of a healthcare provider is to keep all knowledge of a patient’s health record confidential or secluded. That means radiological technologists cannot talk about patients at home or with friends and classmates
Writing is a powerful tool for communication and connection. As an extension and expression of the mind, writing is as much about the mental processes of the author as it is about the final marks laid to paper. As we write, we hold in mind our own thoughts on the work, anticipate the reader’s thoughts, and think both in concrete and abstract ways in order to accomplish the task at hand. Whether an academic research paper, a novel, or text message to friends, writing seeks to engage, persuade, or impress concepts upon an audience. Like language and other art forms in general, the practice of writing is ever-evolving and is subject to cultural and contextual influence, expectations, and conventions. Each writer holds a theory

d. They are highly advanced in interpreting & diagnosing medical imaging. The radiologist consults the diagnoses to the treating physician. c. There are many different fields one may choose to specialize in.
The first couple weeks of school are always the most stressful. They get you thinking about how the semester is going to be and different ways to get you motivated. However, the beginning of this semester is probably one of the most stressful semesters that I have encountered because being a part of the radiography program is a very big achievement. It is a program where I know I will have to be ahead of the game the whole two years, which keeps me on my feet. Throughout this paper I am going to discuss the reasons why I wanted to enter into the program, and the things that I have learned so far along with my short-term and long-term goals.
I currently attend Baton Rouge General School of Radiologic Technology to pursue an Associates degree through Northwestern State University. I chose this profession because I always want to help others. I want to play a part in the healing process of patients. Being able to help people determine things going on inside their body interest me and that is why I chose Radiology. The true definition of a Radiologic Technologist is the “medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations and administer radiation therapy treatments. They are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care”. This definition makes this job seem easy but it is not an easy job at all. We do so much pushing, pulling, and lifting of patients it is physically exhausting. When I first chose this profession I did not think there would be this much to taking images of someone. It is more than just placing a patient somewhere and
My topic that I am researching is a Radiology Technician. Basically, their job is to help Physicians take x-rays and to help them out with the readings. They also perform cat scans, ultrasounds, and radiation therapy. This article informs the reader of the job duties and occupational specialties. It tells them what they need to be able to do, such as noticing detail and clearly communicating. It also provides them with educational and preparation opportunities. The training is provided and the work environment is in mainly hospitals or, if you are in combat, a mobile field hospital (#10). They need to be physically ready, able and willing to perform their duties. They have to be very alert and vigilant in trying to study and notice the
One would think that making the decision to attend college would be simple, but for myself this was not the case. I already had a career working for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. As a result, I was able to travel and live in numerous cities that I may not have been able to visit otherwise. Consequently, the past ten years of my life had been spent moving from one mission assignment to another, changing planes, living in hotels and missing countless Christmas and Thanksgiving celebrations. These factors made my decision to come back to college much easier. My new mission is to receive a degree in Radiology Technology.
They thoroughly examine x-ray scans to see if there are an abnormalities present inside of the patient's body. X-rays aren’t the only things they work with. Radiologist also take MRI scans and CT scans, which are scans that use magnets and radio waves to create a picture of the interior of the human body. They can specialize in a number of things. For example, neuroradiology, nuclear radiology, vascular radiology, and diagnostic radiology. Neuroradiology, uses CT scans and MRI’s to diagnose abnormalities in the nervous system. Nuclear radiology, requires the use of radioactive materials for the treatments of diseases. Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR), use minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of certain
Radiology is a career path that can lead to many places other than diagnostic imaging. Once I finish the program for Radiology, I have many aspirations for the future. I intend on completing my bachelors in science and enrolling in courses for CT and MRI certification. My overall goal is to go into Radiation Therapy or Nuclear Medicine in the next five years.
There are not any gasps in the knowledge base and the author seems to be well informed about communication in radiography, from first view the content of abstract is well organised with clear rationale aims to perform a qualitative study (Bassett,2004).
Radiologic Technologist have a huge role when it comes to the diagnoses of a patient, it is because of their work that doctors are able to have an accurate diagnoses (Institute for Career Research 2010)
In today’s society one would not be able to communicate effectively with the world if writing was not involved. People all around the world send emails, texts, and letter to numerous amounts of individuals each second. Talking on the phone is slowly becoming a thing of the past while the writing side of technology is taking over. The meaning of writing is changing in society. Writing used to be specifically for academics or the occasional letter to a loved one. As time has passed writing has taken more forms and more meanings. In the world we live in now writing is classified as texting, emailing, instant messaging, and even comments or tweets on social media. Although writing has these multiple new forms, it still holds its academic side strongly. Everything with meaning in turn affects a person’s day to day life. Writing has the effect of making one more intellectual. Writing has become a bridge between communication and the cultures and people of today’s society. It gives way for different options in stating sentences or phrases. (Olson). Each affect should change with age. As a person grows older, their writing styles should mature and take on a more professional aspect.
C.S. Lewis once said, “Experience: that most brutal of teacher. But you learn, my God do you learn.” I agree with Lewis because everyone can pick up a book, read a few pages and say that I have learned. But only few can state that I have learned from an experience. Luckily, I was given the opportunity to become one of those who have learned from experience by observing a technologist. While observing, I was able to gain knowledge that I never thought I would achieve. Through this paper, I will share all my observations and personal thoughts on the things I learned.
