A few days ago, all kinds of sns, such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, were full of hashtags: “#prayforParis”. Most of the news headlines in different search engines were about ‘Paris terror’, ‘Islamist extremist’. I wondered what this was and started to research about it. It didn’t take me that long to realize that all these news stories were once again produced by one of the most famous terrorist group in the 21st century: ISIS, the Islamic state in Iraq and Syria (“ISIS”. Abbreviations.com. 13 December 2015. ). Should they still be allowed to take any action they want according to what they believe, then? How important is it for Muslims to spread their beliefs? Does the freedom of expression and freedom of religion matter with suppressing …show more content…
Freedom of religion or freedom of belief is defined as “a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or community, in public or private, to manifest religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance; the concept is generally recognized also to include the freedom to change religion or not to follow any religio” in the Wikipedia. (“Freedom of religion”. Wikipedia. 10 December 2015. 13 December 2015. ). If people restrict the action of ISIS it will be counted as taking away a kind of freedom from a particular group. This topic is covered by Article 18 of United Nations' 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Therefore allowing ISIS to keep their beliefs is a certain things to consider. Freedom of speech is defined as “the right to communicate one's opinions and ideas without fear of government retaliation or censorship” in the Wikipedia. (“Freedom of speech”. Wikipedia. 12 December 2015. 13 December 2015. ). Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, made in 1948, states that: “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.” This human rights about the freedom of expression is also including the action of religion. Even though the ISIS is causing a lot of bitter effects on the whole world, people should consider that they should still have right to have a free religion and right to
Islam: Empire of Faith is a pretty general documentary about a large history of Islam in such a short viewing time. Sometimes the moving picture media can have a different effect than the static reading media. I think this is a great counter to the normal textbook learning that occurs during class. While reading about the beginning Islam, I felt more of an oppression of Muhammad as he was trying to get his word of God out to the people around him. When he left Mecca it was not pleasant but it didn’t seem like he was going to die before he left. When he returned to Mecca with his followers it just seemed like he was a returning son, back with good news. When presented with the video evidence of the process, it seemed that his desire to let
A modern issue that is affecting our nation is the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria also known as ISIS. ISIS is noted to be a terrorist group that has caused many attacks against the United States of America and many other countries. Their goal is to build a caliphate state (Pierpaoli, 2015). ISIS uses “persecution and extermination” to those who enter its territories or go against them. This is a problem because ISIS is currently a threat to the United States. The people affected by this problem are the citizens of the U.S. the people in the Middle East, and their allies, France and
In each requirement they are provoked in some way, that's not it though they also have ways for conducting war. They believe that it should be handled in a disciplined way so they don't injure non combatants with minimal amounts of force, then treating prisoners of war without anger and as humane as the can. This I just evidence of how peaceful this culture is and how their views and beliefs are the polar opposite of what ISIS feels is justified. Just because they are relatively close in in likeness and lived in similar circumstances they've been nurtured in totally different ways, children of ISIS grew up learning and believing that it takes force to spread the word of their god. In their eyes anyone who doesn't believe in their god are heathens and sinners. The things that we do, the things we eat, and make, even the things we say. These people's traditions and culture contradicts the American way of life, free will, free expression of feeling and both men and women can have the same job, women can even be the main source of income for their families. There's also the fact people in America are wasteful and are sluggish people in there
One of the many battle grounds of debate in the U.S. currently is what actions and speech are protected by the first amendment. Since there is so much that is not directly defined in the Constitution, there is room for interpretation on whether or not certain it is protected by it. One topic in particular is supporting the terrorist group ISIS. ISIS is a group of Muslim extremist based out of Syria. Their goals are to create a radical extremist state, the caliphate, through religious violence (Abu Mohammed). This group has been shown many times on the news, either making threats or executing prisoners. They have been attacking people in the Middle East, and are now currently fighting a war against the U.S., England, and many other opponents to terrorism. Verbally supporting ISIS should not be protected by the U.S. Constitution, due to the violent and threatening nature of the group.
One of the most widely discussed issues in the U.S. Muslim community is the negative image of Islam in the American media, an issue that was cause for concern even before 9/11. While appeals to the media for accuracy and fairness continue, newspaper headlines regularly print the words “Islam” and “Muslim” next to words like “fanatic,” “fundamentalist,” “militant,” “terrorist” and “violence.” Uses of the term “jihad” in television programs
Isis was the most beloved goddess in ancient Egypt, whose popularity spread to the Greco-Roman world, and then was Mourner. Could be Isis mourning Osirissuppressed by Christianity. Today, she is worshiped by some Pagans. This article will discuss her history, her cult, and her mythology.
In the movie Islam of Faith Part 1, the narrator starts off with the translation of azan to highlight the strong words and the strength of faith.
In current media there are constant stories of terror attacks including bombings, shootings, and sieges. Many of these assaults have been undertaken by the religious extremist group, ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), which have stemmed from the basic religious teachings of
It’s very clear that ISIS want’s power, but at what cost? Their five minutes of fame won’t make up for the lives of the soldiers and civilians that they kill, the emotional scarring of Iraqi children, and destroyed buildings. On August 19, 2014, ISIS announced the execution of James Foley, an American journalist who was working in Iraq. The group recorded his execution and posted it on the internet, where it went viral and was reviewed by
But, ISIS on the other hand requires territory to remain legitimate. This group is also very traditional when it comes to their religion and practices. While Al Qaeda was a modern group with modern political views, ISIS has a tendency to stick to old fashioned Islam, speaking in terms and phrases that Islamic people now don’t understand or relate to. Their leaders have said that they will not and cannot abandon the governing precepts that were embedded in Islam by the prophet Muhammad and his earliest followers (Wood, 2015). They believe that out of entire Islamic culture, they are the most radical and accurate Islamists there are because they do refer back to the origination of Islam. All of their decisions, actions, etc. are referred back to and based off of the Prophetic Methodology which is the following of the prophecy by Muhammad. Muslims have a book called the Koran that is filled with specific rules and guidelines that are to be followed. It states that crucifixion is one of the only punishments for anyone who objects or disagrees with the Islamic, Sunni religion. The ninth chapter orders them to fight Christians and Jews until they pay their Jizya or tax with complete submission. The prophet Muhammad is the one who created the Koran and all that it entails. ISIS takes the Koran very seriously. More seriously than any Islamic group ever has. It’s almost as if they have an obsession with following the rules that Muhammad has set
The Church, as an effort to eliminate all heresies, decided to get rid of all the the heretics, or people who believed in the reforms. The Church took over 1500 people and executed them. At the time the Church believed it had the right to kill all of those people, because they believed they knew God’s will. Unfortunately today, there are still radical extremist committing horrible acts of violence because they believe they know the will of God. The most well known group at this point in time is an Islam group by the name of ISIS. It is important to note that the Protestant Reformation and ISIS do not parallel exactly, due to modernization and the advancement of the world since the 1500s, but the attitudes driving both event are almost the exact
The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, commonly known as ISIS, has frightened the whole world by committing attacks in the Middle East, Paris, and San Bernardino, California. ISIS claims to be the legitimate ruler of all Muslims and it operates the Muslim world. ISIS was able to expand as the result of local groups conflicts with Western interests. Daniel Byman declares that local groups are attracted to ISIS for genuine conviction. Particularly, young men believe that ISIS is the defender and avenger of Sunnis worldwide. On the other hand, some groups join ISIS for accessibility to financial and technical aid. While , ISIS grows beyond Iraq and Syria, religious intolerance is created. The group delivers its religious beliefs by barbarian acts, such as beheading and rape to intimidate their enemies and obtain supporters.
Their have been terrorists and terrorist organizations before, but, ISIS has been the most focused of terror groups in a long time. ISIS is one of the most dangerous terror organizations in the world, founded in the islamic state of Iraq. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi founded ISIS in 1999. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was a soldier in another terrorist group named Al Qaeda. In 2004 al-Zarqawi established al Qaeda in Iraq. Al Qaeda had a lot or armies focus on them for a while, but ever since, ISIS came in wreaking havoc, blowing up public and religious sites, decapitating victims, crucifying people and doing public executions. All the attention was taken off of Al Qaeda for a while. He was soon killed in an airstrike attack in 2006. The current leader of ISIS, Al
“ISIS is known for killing dozens of people at a time and carrying out public executions, crucifixions and other acts.”36 The time periods these two terrorist organizations reside in have influences on their capabilities. Guns, bombs, and other weapons have had significant improvements since the early 1900s and technology has allowed ISIS to recruit members in a fashion that the Black Hand never could. The regional locations where these terrorist organizations formed give them different settings. The Black Hand wanted self-determination and freedom for Serbia from the oppression of the Ottoman Empire. ISIS developed in a much more war-torn, unstable environment. This allowed for more extremist leaders to arise and form groups like ISIS.
