ISIS: The Future Of Terrorism

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as Isis, terror group has been an important issue in the United States for the past couple of years. After the recall of troops from Iraq, radical Islamist movements started to begin and Isis was formed. The first issue of Isis is they have grown in numbers over the years. Secondly, Isis controls thousands of square miles of ungoverned territory. Their high supply of troops and land allows them to creatively think of major attacks, including attacks on the U.S. Lastly, when people see the attacks from Isis, some people naturally gravitate towards these groups. Two months after 9/11 attacks Osama Bin Laden said “When people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature, they will like the strong horse.” Isis will continue to grow in power if countries do not come together to help totally eliminate them.

Every day, as I turn on the news, I sigh in despair. The world is a total mess; innocent civilians being bombed, slavery, and poverty still evident in many countries. Why the world is so corrupt- in 2014, is beyond me. I try to avoid headlines about the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) but the ever-growing presence of their existence has amplified so much that it cannot be ignored. ISIS is a militant terrorist group that has struck fear into the hearts of many Iraqi’s. Through the use of violence, mass rape, and propaganda, ISIS has conquered much of Iraq and Syria. The objectives of ISIS are to establish an Islamic caliphate in the Middle East. I can’t get it through my head why people would do this, especially if it would backfire on them in the long run. By making their acts of terror known to the world, they only provoke international awareness. They absolutely will not last without end in the hands of the U.S army, whom they have mocked and threatened in the past.

After reading the assigned resources given to me, I have come to the personal conclusion that the ISIS is an actual threat to the United States and its allies. As stated in the article “What ISIS really wants” written by Graeme Woods “Our failure to appreciate the split between the Islamic State and al-Qaeda, and the essential differences between the two, has led to dangerous decisions. Last fall, to take one example, the U.S. government consented to a desperate plan to save Peter Kassig’s life. The plan facilitated—indeed, required—the interaction of some of the founding figures of the Islamic State and al-Qaeda, and could hardly have looked more hastily improvised.” As clearly stated above, the split was a very dangerous in decision making.

During the round table discussion, I learned many things about what’s really going on with Isis and the possible results of this terrorism. Some things I absorbed from Isis consist of how they want to try and pick a fight with everyone around them and how they are trying to make the end of times occur. The roots of terrorism goes back centuries. Some professors stated that Isis is only trying to get America’s undivided attention by doing all of this unnecessary damage. Dr. Parker claimed that they have enticed the use of social media to inflict fear upon the American population, and those around them. President Obama claimed in a speech that Isis had been contained, and then they attacked Paris which brought complete surprise upon everyone

Think about it, you’re walking down the street or just sitting at your favorite place to eat. Then the next thing you know half the street is blown up and you’re either dead, injured, or the person next to is. This is what the people of Paris felt like the day ISIS sent suicide bombers to blow up the city. ISIS first started as a group that broke off from al-Qaeda. In 2014, ISIS controlled more than 34,000 square miles in Syria and Iraq, from the Mediterranean coast to south of Baghdad. ISIS believes they are part of a prophecy written 14 hundred years ago and that they are a key part of an apocalypse that is to come. Their goal is to create an Islamic state called the Caliphate across Iraq, Syria and other places across the Middle East. ISIS has became a global threat and we Americans need to do our part. When you hear the word ISIS, what comes to mind? Do you think of beheading and torture, or simply the Egyptian goddess, Isis? Well, ISIS, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, is an extremist “Islamic” group that is growing in numbers, partially by recruiting young Americans, with many brutal tactics, and the United States is not sure what to do. Right now, there is a Civil War going on in Syria that has lasted for years, since 2011. This first started off as a protest in 2011 against Middle Eastern dictators, but turned into a full blown war after the Syrian political leader Assad decided to take matters into his own hands.

The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, commonly known as ISIS, has frightened the whole world by committing attacks in the Middle East, Paris, and San Bernardino, California. ISIS claims to be the legitimate ruler of all Muslims and it operates the Muslim world. ISIS was able to expand as the result of local groups conflicts with Western interests. Daniel Byman declares that local groups are attracted to ISIS for genuine conviction. Particularly, young men believe that ISIS is the defender and avenger of Sunnis worldwide. On the other hand, some groups join ISIS for accessibility to financial and technical aid. While , ISIS grows beyond Iraq and Syria, religious intolerance is created. The group delivers its religious beliefs by barbarian acts, such as beheading and rape to intimidate their enemies and obtain supporters.

Terrorist groups exist they will do whatever it takes to accomplish what they desire. ISIS is a rebellious group in which no matter the circumstances people are in they will attack in the most cold-hearted way possible. These people do not think for others and we need to be able to save these children from becoming dangerous. People and children may be in the worst poverty possible but ISIS really has to learn it is not about who has the actual roots or greatest power but it is about allowing people to govern their country the best way possible for other generations. At the end of the day we are all human and we must be aware of what occurs around us, everyday many tragic events take place but we must stand united and show that we can get through it. Recently a military group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has been causing controversy between the group and the United States. However, what many might not know is that ISIS has been around for more than a decade. When the United States sent troops in to overthrow Hussein’s government in 2003, it started a tension that would have never been expected. ISIS has conquered many places and gained much land. ISIS is believed to have contributors from the 9/11 attack (infobaselearning.com) and they have been known to go to the extreme to enforce their law. From the beheading of Christians, to the cruel treatment of women, the punishment is very brutal.

The attraction to the Islamic State or ISIS can sometimes be difficult to understand. A lot of people believe that religion and social media is the main reason that so many people are joining the ISIS terrorist group, but there are other reasons. One reason that some people join ISIS is because of failing of the Arab education system. Instead of the school system teaching civic values and analytical skills, schools are emphasizing rote learning and uncritical acceptance of authority.

One of the most complex global issues today involves a terrorist group called ISIS. Rather many American’s know it or not this is important and a threat to our country. Many don’t understand what ISIS is, their way of thinking, and what we should do as citizens of America.
