Who is Adam Cullen, one might ask? Adam Cullen is a junior at Chino Hills High School. Recently, Adam started something that Chino Hills Husky students have never seen before. Adam introduced Smile Cards, something that he created, at Chino Hills High School. Smile Cards are paper cards that say, “ I love your SMILE” on them. Adam informed us that he liked the idea because they are a simple way for anyone to spread positivity and do not require a lot of effort or time. Adam got this idea one day when he was on Pinterest and saw a card that said “ Hey you’re attractive”” He then made one for his friend Hailey Angeles as a joke, but then automatically thought that it could be an awesome way to spread positivity, if he changed a couple words around.
Olympic trials for both the pentathlon and the decathlon. The pentathlon for the 1912 Olympic games consisted of the long jump, javelin throw, 200-meter dash, discus throw and a 1500-meter race. The decathlon, on the other hand, consisted of the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400-meter dash, discus throw, 110-meter hurdles, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500 meter run. He easily won the trials for these two events, which qualified him for the 1912 Olympic games. Along with the decathlon and pentathlon, Jim Thorpe also competed in the long jump and high jump during the games. To begin his Olympic career, he won four out of the five events for the pentathlon, only to place third in the javelin event, in which he had never competed before the U.S. Olympic trials. Jim Thorpe would go on to win gold in the pentathlon event. Later that day, Jim competed in the high jump and long jump events. In these events, he placed fourth in high jump, and then took seventh in the long jump. The final event Jim would participate in during the 1912 Olympics was the decathlon. Thorpe demolished the completion. He placed in the top four in all ten events. He set an Olympic record of 8,413 that would stand for nearly two decades. As legend has it, as the medals were presented to the athletes, the King of Sweden, King Gustav V approached Thorpe and stated, “You, sir, are the greatest athlete in the world.” Thorpe replied in an elegant matter of just saying “Thanks, King”, just as casually as two friends talking to each other
