Introduction

The purpose of this report is to explore and explain data on male and female breast cancer throughout the United States using IBM Watson Analytics. There are many different topics used throughout the report to describe the impacts of breast cancer, factors that influence breast cancer and ways to prevent the disease. Some of the topics/influences that were used in the charts we created were regional impact, age, race/ethnicity, cancer stage, and mammogram rates. All rates throughout the presentation are based out of 100,000 individuals. After all the data charts have been explained, ways to prevent breast cancer is present.

Incidence in Women

The first chart we will look at is a dashboard based off of female incidence …show more content…

The coloring throughout the states has slightly changed with Alaska now being a darker colored state along with Louisiana. This means these states have the highest death rates in women from breast cancer. As you can see, white women have a higher chance of dying from breast cancer than any of the other races with almost 35,000 deaths. Black women still following behind, but at a much smaller rate around 7,000 deaths. Lastly, the older people get in age, the more likely they are to die from breast cancer. The rate for women 85 years and older shows that they are very likely to die from breast cancer with approximately 7,000 deaths, but you are also less likely to get it at that age when comparing their age group to the incidence chart. The next age group following with about 4,000 deaths is the 65-69 age group.

Survival Rates Among Women
Above, we compared survival rates to the stage at which they are in during their final treatment. You are most likely to survive if your cancer is localized which means the cancer cells have not spread beyond where they have begun growing. The next likely stage to survive is regionalized. Regionalized means the cancer cells have spread beyond where they began to grow but it is limited. Lastly, people are least likely to survive the distant stage because the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

Frequent Mammogram Rates
