International Business Machines, abbreviated IBM, is a multinational computer technology and IT consulting corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York, United States. The company is one of the few information technology companies with a continuous history dating back to the 19th century. IBM manufactures and sells computer hardware and software (with a focus on the latter), and offers infrastructure services, hosting services, and consulting services in areas ranging from mainframe computers to nanotechnology.

After a thorough study, our group believes that IBM’s CSR activities are a coherent whole. IBM integrated CSR in the business from its very early days. Many examples of pioneering and innovative HR practice have become global standards. The value of a diverse workforce was recognized early on by IBM management who introduced many innovations that not only built the company’s reputation, but also its ability to attract good talent that would contribute to business success. Hiring of disabled man, professional women, establishing education and training for women, employ the first female Vice President, and other elements of employee wellbeing are good CSR examples of IBM at this stage.
Gradually, IBM extended its CSR program to include the community service, address environment issues, education. One of the examples mentioned in the passage is that IBM‘s involvement in K-12 public education transformation with IBM technology solutions.
