In the fantastic novel A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R Martin, every family dream to sit on the iron throne. From the vicious Lannisters to the cold-blooded Stark, everyone in Westeros cherishes the moment they will be the king. Over the Great Wall, winter is coming: white walkers, sort of ice zombies, threaten the peace of the kingdom. In Essos, Daenerys commands and conquers, leading the Dothraki. Games of Thrones, the publically acclaimed cinematic adaptation of the book, realized by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, is partially faithful to the book. However, some characters have been sadly changed, the narrative diversity is lost in the series and some plot points negatively differed from the book.
First of all, many protagonists from the book have been changed or removed for viewing purposes, creating an undesired change. For example, in the book, Tyrion Lannister, the dwarf, has his nose chopped after losing it in the Battle of Blackwater . His scarce makes him even scarier, adding it to his physical condition. On the other hand, in the cinematic

The biggest difference between A Song of Ice and Fire and Games of Thrones concerning the plot is the removal of Lady Stoneheart., the reincarnation of Catelyn Stark. After the Red Wedding, Lady Stark is reincarnated in order to avenge her children, murdered at the wedding. This whole plot twist is deleted in the cinematic adaptation, which is regrettable, because seeing a mother get the gratification of avenging her children is oddly satisfying. Some other plot twist are modified in the series, such as the fate of Shireen Baratheon. In the novel, she lived through the story without any problems. In Games of Thrones, Shireen is sacrificed by her father to R’hllor, the god of light. This variance was shocking, considering she is an innocent burned by her procreator and the non-utility of this
For instance, Flora made the book feel sweet and nice as you read it but in the movie Crow played that part in the movie. But since there wasn’t as many characters the pairs were also switched up. For me, it made things more confusing at the beginning to understand the plot but as the movie went on eventually I figured out that the characters who I know and love were not there.
Both “Fire and Ice” and “Nothing Gold Can Stay” are great reads. They have their differences, but they have similarity’s as well. Having the common themes, while staying unique is impressive. The shortness of good things, stressed in the first poem. As well as the argument of how the world will end. These poems by Robert Frost make you think, that is what makes them so memorable.
Like most movies based on novels, there are some major differences between the written and the theatrical versions of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
The last big difference i saw was the scene with the Lotus Eaters. In the book, Odysseus and his men went to an island with Lotus Eaters while in the movie, the lotus blossoms were given by Circe. This made him and his men stay longer with Circe for five years. They had thought it had only been a couple days but Circe made it seem like that, so they wouldn't leave. That is also different from the book because in the book, Odysseus and his men only stayed with Circe for a year, not five years.
For example, the reader is introduced to Helen as a baby. Meanwhile, in the motion picture the watcher is introduce to Helen when she’s six years old. This a major difference because the reader views how Helen started unlike the watcher of the movie. Another example, in the story Helen is pictured as a filthy mess, but in the film she is always in a nice set of clothes. This is a very important change because it shows how a person depicts Helen. Lastly, Annie is haunted by nightmares of her brother at the State Court house. In the book their is great deal of flashbacks in the story, but in the movie their is only one. This shows how Annie had to fight the voices in her head and the guilt of her “ killing” her brother. Even with these differences, it still tells the amazing story of Helen
One major difference between the text and the movie is the characters. One of the characters that seem to differ quite a bit between the movie and the book is Beowulf. Everyone think of him as the hero that killed the monsters they were terrified of and probably would never think of a “hero” as a liar. In the book it never says anything about him lying about killing Grendel’s mother as it shows in the movie; according to the text “struck it with all the strength he had left, caught her in the neck and cut it through, broke bones and all. Her body fell to the floor…”(521). Another character in Beowulf that differs is Grendel, in the movie Grendel seemed to be able to communicate with the other
The overall theme/message is also different from the book to the movie. For example in the book the book the theme is good vs. evil, Beowulf being good and Grendel being. This however is not the case in the movie, the theme in the movie is more like don’t cheat on your spouse and don’t lie to the people you rule or else it will come back to haunt you. This quite the difference, but I believe the writers of the movie did this to make a point or to send a message to the people watching
A minor difference between the movie and the book was concerning the scene about Sir Henry going to the moor. In the book he was pretty upset that people were trying to keep him from going there, but in the movie he showed the least bit of emotion. This was not a major impact on the story but it definitely added character to Sir Henry. In the movie Sir Henry was somewhat timid and in the book that scene showed he was not afraid to stand up for himself.
To do this project, you should do research that enables you to understand the following terms and concepts:
The first difference I notice is in the book women are very disrespected with not having very many rights, while in the movie women are in the Mead Hall with the men partying not much in the kitchen like the book portrayed, that’s the very first thing I see. Also now in the book Beowulf rips Grendle’s arm off for his death but in the movie Beowulf grapples Grendel, who has a chain wrapped around his arm, pulling it loose. As Grendel is trying to flee Heorot, Beowulf slams the door on his arm, severing it. Also in the book Grendle’s mother goes to avenge them but in the movie his mother visits Beowulf as he is asleep with all the other villagers and she visits him in his dreams and awakens to see she has killed many men of the Herot. Also in the book the mother’s lair is guarded in the movie it’s deserted. After slaying Grendel's mother, Beowulf brings Hrunting, Grendel's head and the hilt from the giant's sword back to Heorot in the book where in the movie she brings the head to
Darry didn’t appear much on the film, but I could know that he was a tough, strict person. Also, I could see that he loved Pony and Soda a lot even though Darry was not a person who shows his thoughts to others. Darry was well-described in the movie, but on the other hand, the other characters looked or acted quite differently from the original characters in novel. For instance, the book told us that Pony looked as if he was fourteen, but the actor looked as if he was over twenty years old; the book also stated that he had long hairs that were squared off at the back, but the hair was short in the movie. Another example is Johnny; in the book, it said that his eyebrows were fully covered by his bang, but it wasn’t in the movie. The novel also said that he looked so pale and scared when someone surprised him, like how Two-Bit suddenly talked to Johnny from the back in the movie house. However, Johnny didn’t look that scared or fearful in the film. Overall, the characters in movie somehow altered from the original
There is a big difference between the book and the series or movie. We did a little research and came out with these differences.
For instance, the book talks about how the greasers felt and how their feelings were, then in the movie, it didnt talk about it but it showed it. The way that they showed it was not as good as it was written. When reading we don't fall in love with the characters' appearance. We fall in love with their words, their thoughts, and their hearts. We fall in love with their soul. In movies we focus more on appearance and what's going on in the background, which then gets people distracted from what the character is feeling and their thoughts. On the other hand, you can see the actions of the characters in the movie, which might help you process the way they act, however with the book the author can use what he thinks and try to give people a general idea of everything. For an example in the book it talks about how Randy
When film producers run out of ideas, the industry turns to books as inspiration stories for their next big blockbuster. Popular examples of these adaptations include Silence of the Lambs, Harry Potter, Dracula, The Shining, and many more . As audiences that fell in love with every plot point, every character trait, basically the book entirely, we find it slightly disappointing when the movie doesn’t do much justice to the book in terms of including every detail thus leaving out the “good parts” due to time constraints and such. Another major reason that audiences tend to be disappointed upon watching a book-based film is that the characters are not all they imagined to be- meaning they think of the character one way
The novel, A Game of Thrones, begins with an encounter with supernatural beings; this may give a false impression as to what will come. As the story begins to unfold, the theme moves strongly into the area of political intrigue and this forthcoming war that will happen as a result. The fantasy element, while always there plays only a minor role in the majority of the rest of the book. A Game of Thrones in not your usual fare, it is hard-hitting and bad things do happen to the good people. Two families take centre stage in a battle for the Throne the Starks and the Lannisters. The Stark family live in the cold hard
