Throughout the years, Critical Thinkers have learned ways to become effective when it comes to decision making and problem solving. Critical Thinking requires you to actively use your mind to mentally process thoughts and listen to ways to learn different ideas. Some people may lack the ability to apply critical thinking which inhibits thinking independently and open mindedly. This literature will examine several ways to become an effective critical thinker. This paper will determine what critical thinking really consists of, and ways to develop you're critical thinking in order to make a quick problem solving solution and decisions. It will also compare the effectiveness of a critical thinker versus a non-critical thinker.
When I think of critical thinking and how I would define it, the simplest definition is having the ability to solve or argue and issue by using unbiased, evidenced backed ideas. In any profession, a person must have the ability to solve problems and work with others. Having a biased opinion and not including other’s ideas and opinions into your own thought forces you to not have an open mind and limits expanded knowledge. In my career I have had to engage in multiple interviews. One of the things I found interesting in all of them was the focus on individuals ability to use critical thinking to solve complex, challenging issues. Implementing critical thinking into the working environment is a very useful tool. Rick D. Rudd (2007) states that, "Individuals who can think critically are invaluable as employees, leaders and members of society (Rudd, 2007)." The ability to solve problems at work by breaking the problem down to a step by step solution makes a quality employee. Companies tend to consider employees with critical thinking skills as a valuable asset to the company.
Nowadays, many companies are looking for the employees who can think out of the box and find new solutions or potentials for the company. Implying business analysis in a company, will bring out the new ideas, fosters teamwork and promote options. By using critical thinking in business context we ensure that the problem is defined thoroughly (Goodman, 2013).
Critical thinking is something that we uses all the time in our everyday lives. I use critical thinking every day in my school work, in my job working as a caterer, and, as funny as this may sound, when I play games. After learning studying the technics from Unit 2 on improving critical thinking skills, I feel that I have devised a plan to help me through this process. The steps in the lesson that include using wasted time and asking specific questions, planning to handle one problem per day, and internalize intellectual standards and having clarity and understanding about devising a game plan has helped me put the changes into action. Critical thinking is the ability to reflectively assess a situation while being sensitive to the context and consciously removing personal biases.
