Identify what you see as the main purpose of security management and discuss what is meant by the statement that ‘security measures must be commensurate with the threat’.
"Security is everyone’s business" Which is the point I would like to conclude with at the end of my essay? Yet the assignment poses two questions, the first highlights the term 'Security Management' which is fundamental towards the second question that focuses on the importance in identifying the proportionate and appropriate balance between the right security measures to the right threat. I would like to at first give my interpretation of 'Security Management' by discussing each word on their own merits before moving onto the latter.

The key word in this definition is process, when everyone thinks of Management they automatically picture the person behind the desk telling you what to do when its really quite the contrary, when you consider the pertinent parts 'how one processes a situation and manages an appropriate response in any given situation' This is non so important than that in the security industry.
As a result, those with considerable experience within the sector will know and understand that it doesn’t matter what role you are fulfilling one way or another any situation you come across will put you in a position of management as they simply force you to make a decision. Therefore with this in mind management within the security sector will at times full on the responsibility of any individual who works within the realms of security, it's simply the way in which you manage a risk, threat or conflict, by your decision or reaction which results in the prevention of loss or crime.
