Identity
No two people have the same identity. Every person has a separate set of experiences. People mold and shape to what goes on around them and react to these events. Building your personality is something you will do for your whole life and is a constant occupation. There are many origins of an identity, My Life as a Dog, “Five Kinds of Self-knowledge” by Ulric Neisser, and “Love and Need” by Thomas Merton look deeper into identity to see what creates and effects it. These pieces of literature all support the idea that one's environment and self choice influence who you are. Many things go into the development of a person’s identity, but nothing is more important than the experiences that come from

It is an outline of five things we do that make us who we are. I will break down three of the five aspects of Neisser’s selfs. The second self represented in his theory is the interpersonal self, this touches on human interactions between two or more people. Next he jumps to the private self, this explains that no two people are going to have the exact same thoughts and feelings on all subjects or know everything the others don’t. You are the only one who knows your true identity because you are the only person that has experienced everything you have been through. This allows for a person to create their own identity that is completely different from everyone elses. Finally we can break down the conceptual self, this is the role that we play in everyday life to other people (ex. doctor, famous). The conceptual self or the interpersonal self can make a person alter their actions by being impacted by the opinions of other people. This can cause a drastic change in identity. These two concepts go together because My Life as a Dog says that all experiences change you in some way and Neisser’s theory on selfs breaks down each type of experience a human can have, so both works agree with the fact that everything can change you. These two works of literature go in depth and play off of each other on the fact that all experiences a human faces can affect and create what a human is
This identity is constantly being personally refined and reshaped. By having the understanding of where they come from, trying new things and being told that they aren’t good enough, and admittedly sometimes making the wrong choices, people must create their identity from scratch. All of the pieces of literature mentioned each show a different way identity can be made by someone. This proves that it is impossible to be born with life already planned out and that there is a journey to finding a true identity. And with the words of Thomas Merton, “identity is much more than the name or features one is born with… Identity means having ideas and values one lives by.”
In this world we live in, people are easily influenced by others. What or whoever influences you, that becomes a part of your identity. Having an identity is what makes you who you are. A person’s choice in music, clothes, cars, their environment, social life all influence your personality.
Identity is what makes a person unique. It is the soul and the essence of a human being. People are not born with a fixed identity. Identity is inherently dynamic; it changes and evolves over time. A person’s identity is ultimately shaped by their decisions. My identity is different from those who surround me. I create my own identity.
Everybody have many things that shape their identities, such as family, friends, religion, culture and race. For example, in the book the girl who fell from the sky by Durrow, Rachel is bi-racial, so she was influenced by her mother who was Danish and her father who was African-American. Rachel started to become aware of her identity when she moved with her grandmother, then when she first started going to school. Understanding her identity impacted her personality as she said, “I learn that black people don’t have blue eyes. I learn that I am black. I have blue eyes” (Durrow
Identity is a group of characteristics, data or information that belongs exactly to one person or a group of people and that make it possible to establish differences between them. The consciousness that people have about themselves is part of their identity as well as what makes them unique. According to psychologists, identity is a consistent definition of one’s self as a unique individual, in terms of role, attitudes, beliefs and aspirations. Identity tries to define who people are, what they are, where they go or what they want to be or to do. Identity could depend on self-knowledge, self-esteem, or the ability of individuals to achieve their goals. Through self-analysis people can define who they are and who the people around them
A person's sense of individual identity is always changing in response to the experiences in life. How we feel, how we act and how we perceive ourselves and our surroundings can influence change in identity. Identity can be defined as a set of personal or behavioural characteristics by which an individual is recognized or known as by a group. The horrific and heart breaking story of what my friend experienced is a perfect example of how our circumstances and experiences can alter our identities. About two years ago, my friend began to change. Not just how she acted but her appearance too. She looked upset all the time, was skipping school, drifting away from friendships and spent a lot of time in one of the teacher's offices. It took a while
There are also those characteristics of identity that one is born with, such as mental and physical features, as well as those that could come at any given time. Such as in “On Being A Cripple” by Nancy Mairs, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 28, after that her whole life changed and she identified herself as disabled. There are many different circumstances that can affect a person’s identity but the important part is getting there, a person will know they’ve reached their full identity once they begin to feel good about themselves, forgetting about what others say about them. Every person has family identities, these are the biological factors of oneself. It could include, eye color, skin color, hair color, height, certain facial characteristics, gender and behavior.
Identity. What is identity? One will say that it is the distinct personality of an individual. Others will say that identity is the behavior of a person in response to their surrounding environment. At certain points of time, some people search for their identity in order to understand their existence in life. In regards, identity is shaped into an individual through the social trials of life that involve family and peers, the religious beliefs by the practice of certain faiths, and cultural awareness through family history and traditions. These are what shape the identity of an individual.
What makes your identity? Is it your past, your family, your hopes, dreams, fears? It is all that and more. Your identity makes up who you are. It is always growing and ever-changing. Your identity is what makes you human. Finding it can be a struggle, maintaining it can be even harder. Katniss and Peeta in The Hunger Games were two examples of finding and holding onto your identity. Katniss was the girl who had to grow up to fast. She had to learn how to provide for her family, to be strong. Katniss thought to do this she had to create a wall to hold back all the childish things that were apart her. She put on a mask to grow up but to also protect herself from those who would wish to abuse her innocence. The mask, the wall they kept her
Identity shows who the person is. However, an issue will show someone's identity. These days people creates somebody identity by their look, the way people act, the manner people speak. The identity is from family however people aren't able to believe that identity they decide their own manner. Identity comes from teams too. For an example, if you keep in unhealthy people company then your identity are counted as same as them. People can decide you same because of the cluster. Identity comes from society to that is analogous to the cluster. Therefore these days it will depend on upon who you hang around with (groups) and wherever you reside in your identity will come back from that in individual’s opinions. You’ll be able to produce your identity by yourself.
Many theorists see Identity as something that is solid and unchanging - something that is true to your inner-self. Others argue that your identity is something that is constantly changing and adapting, and something that requires commitment and action to sustain. Problems that occur with finding an identity lie in that people seek to be accepted into that new identity and be validated by others.
Who I am? Personally, I believe that a person’s identity can take only one of two routes. One, a person’s identity can change within that person’s life. Who I am now, is not necessarily who I was when I was younger. Experience can and will likely modify our identities. Therefore, experience can solidify our personal identification or it can weaken our personal identification. And as such, individuals and their perspectives are always evolving, or at the very least, they should evolve over time. Although there are some identities that evolve throughout one’s lifetime; there are some identities that remain consistent. Two, some identities cannot and will not change. So identities are socially and/or politically forces upon you, some identities are genetically assigned to you, and some you choose to keep. No matter the reason or reasons, these identities have been and will be consist within your lifespan. But, how you deal with them is up to you as an individual.
One’s identity is who or what a person is and how they are perceived by themselves and others. Your identity defines who you are and where you fit in. It is a self-representation of your interests, relationship, social activity and much more. Some believe our sense of identity and belonging is shaped by various factors, including our experiences, relationships, and our environments. Conversely, others believe that personality is shaped by nature, and that one is defined by their biological characteristics and hereditary traits passed down from previous generations. Nevertheless a combination of both nature and nurture shapes us throughout life. For a majority of the population their journey to find their identity and belonging can often
Is one born with an identity or is it determined by the outside world we live in? We all have particular aspects about ourselves that make us unique. It is society, however, that exerts constant pressure for everyone to be the same when diversity should be celebrated. Whether one is aware of it or not, distinct traits are constantly being influenced both directly and indirectly. I am a testament to this assertion. My extrovert identity has been shaped by my culture affecting my relationships, teaching me self-discipline, and influencing my career goals.
Identity is what evolves us, it is what makes us think the way we do, and act the way we act, in essence, a person’s identity is their everything. Identity separates us from everyone else, and while one may be very similar to another, there is no one who is exactly like you; someone who has experienced exactly what you have, feels the way you do about subjects, and reacts the same to the events and experiences you have had. This became prevalent to me as I read through many books, that everyone goes through the process of finding who they are. A prevalent theme throughout literature is the idea that over time one develops their identity through life over time, in contrast to being born with one identity and having the same
