Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. I have taken in stride these qualities throughout the years of my life. I have been taught integrity by my parents and by many teachers in my educational and personal life. Without integrity there is no trust or respect for people in the world. Amy Rees Anderson as an entrepreneur turned into a counselor and angel investor, shares her opinions on integrity in business and life experiences. Also Brett and Kate McKay take a look at the things that challenge your integrity and the consequence of your choices. The same concerns are encountered in the business world. Also in the article, Amy discusses her experience with integrity in business; she states that “CEOs overstate their projected earnings because they don’t want the board of directors to replace them. Entrepreneurs overstate their pro formas because they want the highest valuation possible from an investor.” In these instances you have people in high places compromising their integrity to get further or higher in their careers. She states that even employees would call in sick, when really they would take off to do Christmas shopping. There is a breach of integrity in every aspect of life but it’s up to the person to make the decision to do what is right. The question is how do people improve on their integrity? What is the thought process of people who cheat? According to Brett and Kate McKay there are things that can strengthen and weaken your integrity. They research the mind of a cheater and also the mind of those who do not cheat. Brett and Kate McKay explore why people compromise their integrity and what elements strengthen and weaken a person’s integrity. In my everyday life, I exemplify integrity by consistently following my moral or ethical convictions and doing the right thing in all circumstances. To me, having integrity means that I am are true to myself and would do nothing that demeans or dishonors me. I keep your promises even if it takes extra effort. I work when I am supposed to and save socializing, snacking, searching the Internet and personal phone calls for break time. I show respect to coworkers with appropriate conversation and empathy. I am responsible, and I do what I say I will do.
Integrity is when you do the right thing, even when nobody's watching. “You working with a group cutting bushes in the woods when two of the men started to argue Joe looked up and saw the guy slapping angrily toward each other both raising their axes, and without thinking Joe jumped between the men ‘you give me your axe’ he demanded of one, then he turned to the other ‘and you give me your axe’. Joe took the axes and the fight was over.” (131) Joe showed integrity in that situation because he did the right thing, even if it meant potentially putting himself in danger, even when no one was watching.

Stephen L. Carter links integrity and honesty. There are three constraints discussed in this essay. First, integrity does require a degree of moral reflectiveness. Second, Integrity may cause conflict that is must be resolved. It does not necessarily produce or protect interpersonal harmony. Third, a person who has integrity can be trusted. It does not avoid the restructuring of social structures and associations, because it leaves the matter to exercise of interpersonal authority.

Integrity can speak to someone’s character because it can help determine the ethics one sets for himself/herself, as well as how well someone adheres to them. Having integrity does not just mean being honest but also exemplifying consistency in someone’s actions along with impartiality. Additionally, integrity allows for people to build a stronger foundation for relationships because it creates a sense of trustworthiness and permits a certain degree of dependency. People try to uphold themselves to the moral values set by society, yet sometimes make unethical decisions. Typically individuals who do make unethical decisions are influenced by individual biases, outside pressures, and situational factors. These elements can impact decision making to the extent that they consciously or subconsciously lie and cheat. Though, the frequency and magnitude of this behavior generally varies from person to person, a majority would not go to the degree of damaging their positive image.
C.S. Lewis defined integrity as doing the right thing when no one is looking. That has been one of my greatest lessons as a professional and as a small business owner.

Some people may have the mojo to beg, cheat or steal to get to the top, as opposed to others who genuinely work hard physically and mentally. For someone to be integral, they must live a life of kindness and justice in which they do the right thing all the time. A person of integrity does exactly what he says and says exactly what he means. There is no conflict between his thoughts and actions. His actions are consistent with the values he professes. According to Dr. William Manninger, A building without integrity may receive structural damage, or even collapse, in a storm. Similarly, people without integrity are blown about by the winds of misfortune and destroyed by catastrophes, for they lack the firmness, solidity, and strength of character to weather any storm. This means that integrity is one of the six essential qualities that are the key to success.

Integrity is how somebody lives their life. In this life we live, we face choices every day that only we can answer. We dictate how we run our own lives, and they way we run them defines us. Integrity is doing the right thing versus the wrong thing. People, if nothing else, can always have their pride, their integrity. It is something that means a lot to some people and then nothing to others. The ones who value their integrity highly are the good people in this world, and the opposite is true for those who do not value their integrity.
The importance of individual honesty and trustworthiness has long been asserted as a characteristic of the morally noble and pure of heart. Since the early 14th century honesty has played an integral role in establishing credibility among colleagues, strengthening lawful legal systems, and classifying actions as morally acceptable or unacceptable. In recent years the idea of honesty has taken an abrupt halt and shifted towards the concept of dishonesty, a constantly growing enterprise formulated on incentives and misguided logic. This is the belief that a person’s behavior is deceitful or fraudulent, and is often misconstrued as a trait of swindlers and the morally corrupt. However, dishonesty is a natural occurrence seen in every age, location, and culture and should be acknowledged as a defense mechanism seen in every individual.
