If I Stay by Gayle Forman is a beautiful story, it’s a novel that wrote for teenagers. In an instant, Mia’s world is completely shattered by a car accident. She loses her entire family and doesn’t know what to do. She has to decide whether to stay or go. At last, she chooses to stay because of Adam who is her boyfriend. Every book has its main idea and connects with some social issues. In this book, it mainly portrays two social issues: Losing parents & Fate. The first social issue that the book connects is children losing parents, more and more children are suffering this. In this book, Mia loses her whole family in a car accident and she is there and sees her families’ bodies: “I see Dad first. Even from several feet away, I can make out the protrusion …show more content…
There’s almost no blood on her, but her lips are already blue and the whites of her eyes are completely red”. “And that’s how I know. Teddy. He’s gone too.” (Forman 16, 152). Actually, “According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one of the leading causes of death for children is car accidents” (Car Accidents). Because of the popularization of car, everyday there are car accidents happening in the world. Millions of people die for it, families break because of it. Mia loses her parents, she is the only one that left from the car accident, but she is in a wired situation. She can’t go back to her body and can see what happens to her as a soul out of her body, and she is in the reminiscence. She is thinking about past, the time with her parents and Teddy which is her brother. Due to Teddy’s death, Mia feels guilty to survive and she wants to leave as well: “I’m not sure this is a world I belong in anymore. I’m not sure that I want to wake up” (Forman 164). Mia is suffering from her family’s death, and usually children can’t accept the truth when bad things happens. As the article says “With steadily increasing life spans, it's easy for children, even grown

This highlights the realistic atmosphere prevailing as well as reflects the true meaning of relationship. The readers are exposed to the mother-son relationship. It can be seen that even if the narrator is a twenty-year old law student, he is still the little boy who needed his neck scrubbed from the point of view of the mother. Whatever good advice the son gives, it is not followed and instead he is given a lecture. This is a typical mother-son relationship which shows that no matter how much a child grows, he always remains a little kid for the mother. Moreover, the readers also notice the routine life of the narrator and his mother. The boy used to accompany his mother to work and help her which makes a four-hour job becomes two. There is solidarity, strong family bond and understanding between them because although he did not like his mother
In “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" by Joyce Carol Oates, a young girl named Connie is testing the limits of the freedom granted to her by her parents. She spends her summer by hanging out with her girlfriends, and finding different boys at a restaurant across the street instead of walking around the mall with her friends. Oates shows in many examples how a naive Connie is taken advantage of by a man preying on her young and carefree mind, and transitions the main character from a carefree youth to a scared young woman being cheated by life and forced to grow up and understand the world and it’s unfairness more.
I was pleased to have attended a lecture cosponsored by the Ethics Center, the Fresno State office of the president, the Fresno Bee and Valley PBS. The lecture began with Dr. Castro recognizing a few leaders on campus, including a past Fresno State president, Dr. John D. Welty and campus volunteer Mary Castro. Dr. Castro then mentioned a few things about Mr. Brooks stating that he is a columnist for the New York Times and an analyst for the PBS “News Hour” and NPR’s “All Things Considered.” Dr. Brooks also teaches at Yale University, one the finest university in the country. Dr. Castro continued by saying that he learned that Mr. Brooks office hours are from 9am to 1pm and how “cool” it sounded to him. I was surprised how many people attended the event. I was fortunate to find a seat. David Brooks mentioned how he has some remote roots in the Central Valley because his father grew in Chowchilla, CA but Mr. Brooks grew in New York.
In addition, the author helps the reader understand the selfishness of the mother when the reader finds out she have stole the Persian Carpet “several months before” (230) the divorce and puts the blame on Ilya, the poor blind man. Furthermore, the visit of the children is supposed to signal a fresh start for the family. The mother even emphasizes she wants the girls to come “live with [them]” (229). Yet again, even if they meet in order to reunite, characterized by a situational irony, they see themselves separated because of her mother selfish decisions.
After Mia finds out Teddy is dead she doesn’t want to accept it because she knows it is horrible and doesn’t want to live without him. “Teddy? I call. Where are you? Come back to me!
Some may say student – athletes have it easy because they get to go to school for free and live the life of a college athlete when that is not the case in most situations. College athletes are in the business of marketing at a young age without playing professional sports which is a business. Which is why I believe student – athletes should be paid to play college sports. My reasons for this argument are that the student athlete may need spending money and money to support their families, secondly the schools along with their sport profits off of the students athletes names, and lastly for big events some student athletes are required to miss schools due to these events.
The author creates themes of commonality that are relatable to many in this story story. There is a crucial moment in rebellious child’s lives that pushes them to act out. For Lola this happens to be her mother and her battle with breast cancer, “with her cancer there wasn’t much she could do anymore” (Diaz 5). Lola,
I agree with this statement for many reasons. If a classical story like Macbeth was changed in any way, the outcome would be totally different. The style it’s written in is very important as well as the format and language. For example if Macbeth was changed in any way or adapted people would interpret the story in a different way. The main reason the story could be damaged is because it’s written in old English, the whole meaning of the story would change if it was adapted to today’s language.
If I stay, which is an outstanding novel written by Gayle Forman, was published in 2009 and is an emotionally gripping story. The most interesting part of the novel starts with Mia’s life after the accident. The readers also learn about her life before the tragedy with the help of plentiful flashbacks. She recalls her colorful and vibrant family members so vividly that they could easily step off the page and break the hearts of the readers. Furthermore, her remembrances also highlight her passion for music and romance with her boyfriend. Moreover, the readers will find the entire novel very interesting and inspiring and will also find the climax of the novel very satisfying. The story revolves around seventeen year old Mia, who finds herself dealing with the aftermath of a terrible car accident which killed her entire family. During the coma, Mia goes through an out-of-the-body experience and observes all her friends and family that gather at the hospital. The memory of Mia flashes before her and she debates about whether or not she should wake up and face the grief of losing her family or, if she should die. Before summarizing the story, it is pertinent that the main characters of the story should be discussed briefly.
Evolutionary theory suggests that early humans would have to ensure the survival of their genes by best making use of their resources and adapting. As a result, we have evolved certain food preferences of foods with high energy content to give us the best chance of survival.
The resentment within the young girl’s family is essential to the novel because one can understand the young girl better as she makes her decision.
