Some think that people with knowledge of the world’s complexities and its limitations are often unhappy, while their less-knowledgeable counterparts remain contented. They think that being ignorant of the cold reality surrounding them will bring them happiness because their minds will be peaceful and innocent. However, knowledge is a very strong element to world development. It allows great things to be achieved. Therefore, knowledge actually does make one happier. Ignorance is NOT bliss. The Renaissance was a period in Europe, from the 14th to the 17th century, considered the bridge between the Middle Ages and modern history. A famous goldsmith and writer named Cellini who lived in this time period set technical standards that were followed …show more content…
At the start of the Renaissance, most people didn’t have much knowledge. Books had always been hand copied; that being the reason why there were few books at the time and why few people knew how to read. Letters were rarely sent. But the printing press changed that. It could copy books and words easily. Because of the printing press, many books were made. Due to the abundance of books, people began learning how to read. Gutenberg’s invention did not only increase the amount of books in the Renaissance, it improved literature. It was a major catalyst for later scientific catalyst revolution. Gutenberg used his intelligence to create the printing press, and thanks to him, reading was spread across the world. Literature greatly influences the world today. Reading gives one more knowledge, so by reading, one is having fun and gaining knowledge at the same time. The information gained from reading is helpful, not hurtful. Being oblivious to knowledge is what will hurt …show more content…
In May 2011, the Syrian people took to the streets in peaceful demonstration against the Assad regime’s lack of political progress and extreme responses to anti-government graffiti. However, the protests soon became violent. The government tortured, killed, and shot at the protesters. The situation escalated to a civil war, which is still raging on today. Syrians started fleeing Syria and crossing the border into neighboring countries such as Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. As of October 2015, there are over 4.1 million refugees of the Syrian Civil War. The war has become more deadly since foreign powers joined the conflict. Imagine if people chose to ignore this; even more lives would be lost, countries wouldn’t at all be prepared to take in millions of refugees, etc. A Syrian who lives by the proverb “Ignorance is bliss” would most likely be dead in less than two days, and if many Syrians were ignorant, the whole country of Syria would’ve collapsed by now. Of course, knowledge in this situation does not mean a Syrian is guaranteed to live and be happy, but at least they will acknowledge what is going on and be able to flee Syria in time. Knowledge of the crisis will benefit other countries too, like Turkey, who have over 2.1 million Syrian refugees as of April 2015. If Turkey was simply ignorant of the situation because it didn’t have anything to do with them, they would’ve been
Johannes Gutenberg, a German craftsman, invented a piece of machinery that would later revolutionize the world in the 1450’s which was the wooden and later metal printing press. Before Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press, there was the development of language, writing with hieroglyphs, the alphabet and then printing. After Gutenberg finished this project, the printing press spread throughout the region at a very quick pace. Gutenberg's invention made the printing of lengthy texts possible by continuing to use existing materials. Because of how easy it was and how much faster and efficient this invention makes printing documents and books, this allowed more people access to these texts. Because of this, the most important consequence of the printing press itself would be the ease at which knowledge and religion could be spread. Knowledge is power in this time and is one of the most valuable tools.
The Renaissance The Renaissance was a time of Humanists who focused Art, Architecture, Politics, Science, and Literature. Many considered it to be a time of reviving classic Greek and Roman texts and ways. All of this brought about a new wave of thought processes and cultural changes. Humanists believed that man should focus his attention towards all things mortal, and not be constrained or moved by dreams of immortal futures.
The printing press revolutionized the world as people now know it. Since kids humans have learned through books, and documents. But what if they would never have them? Would humanity still be illiterate and isolated, just focusing on religion?. The printing press was created by Johannes Gutenberg in 1450 giving people more books to read, the alphabet, and religion with the bibles he printed, making a huge jump on people's education. Even though the printing press was really influential in exploration times, it was more influential in the reformation era.

In order to protect and establish new rights, workers began to form unions. When workers joined together to form ions, it became easier for them to make demands to their employers as a group than alone. Two types of unions existed during the Gilded Age, trade unions which which were geared to specific lines of work and industrial unions which included all lines of work. (Perry 190) Both industrial and trade unions were part of national federations; the American Federation of Labor or AFL was founded in 1886 and was a federation of trade unions. Industrial unions were larger and could be part of larger federations including the Knights of Labor founded in 1869. Labor unions negotiated and used tactics including strikes and boycotts to gain necessary

The Renaissance is known as the beginning of a modern world. It started in Italy in the fifteenth century. It is known as an evolution in the arts and sciences. New art strayed away from strictly about religion and leaned more towards nature and people. New technologies like firearms and the printing press were invented. The Renaissance was a time of “rebirth” and a transition from the medieval time to the Early Modern World. It emphasized human beings, their achievements, interests, and capabilities. This time period was a “gateway” to the modern world and was essential for the improvement of human life. At the time there were two main Renaissances, the Northern, and the Italian.
The Renaissance was a period in Europe civilisation that immediately followed the Middle Ages. It was an era of cultural growth that was introduced in Italy and was carried on throughout northern Europe lasting the 14th to 17th century. Many artists and scholars of that time period believed that they were contributing in a revival of the ideals and worth of the periods that arrive before them. The Renaissance period open doors for individuals to rediscover one’s will and obligations of observing the environment. It was an opening for them to express themselves in human terms. They shifted their interest from God centred to humans centred, known as Humanism. The Renaissance had expanded into four periods which were classified as Early Renaissance,
The Renaissance was a rebirth of the ideas of ancient Greece and Rome that began in the City States of Italy during the 14th century. The cultural resurgence began a new style of living in Europe after the horrors of the black death, and is seen as the beginning of the culture of the modern world. As Wassace K. Ferguson put in his book The Renaissance, the Italian artists grew tired of the darkness of Medieval Times and began to turn to the brighter times found in the classical ages (Doc 7). The Renaissance served as the evolutionary bridge between the Middle Ages and the 17th century through art, education, and religion by bringing a rebirth of the ancient Greek and Roman classics that would later define the world’s culture, while continuing the underlying beliefs of Medieval Times.
This issue was chosen due to its scope. The Syrian refugee crisis is among a list of issues that will not only shape the world in 2016 but also dominate news outlets in upcoming years. Because of the despairing situation, many governments are struggling to find ways to handle the rush of individuals seeking asylum, for the fact that it seems the crisis is worsening. In addition, the media coverage on the topic sparked my interest and led me to research information because I had no idea what was occurring and the detriment of the issue.
In addition, illegal immigrants are increasing as a result of war in other countries. According to CNN News in Syria, an anti-regime uprising that started in March 2011 has spiraled into civil war. More than 250,000 Syrians have lost their lives in four-and-a-half years of armed conflict. More than 11 million others have been forced from their homes as forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and those opposed to his rule battle each other. People are fighting with neighbors all over the world. Every moment the fear of death is a present reality. No one can lead a normal life. They do not have enough food to survive. Thousands of children have seen parents killed or die at an early age themselves. These conflicts affect many cultures. Some people have decided to escape at any cost. Faez, a Syrian refugee, decided to flee Syria after he was detained and accused of being a terrorist. An
