National Issues Paper: Illegal Immigration
There are more than 10 million illegal immigrants living in the United Sates, and each day that number is increasing by 1,400 illegal aliens. An illegal immigrant is a foreigner who either illegally crossed an international political border, whether it was by land, sea or air, or whether it be a foreigner who legally entered a country but nevertheless overstayed their visa in order to live and/or work there. The two focal attractions that the illegal immigrants perceive in the U.S are superior job opportunities, and better living for their families. Several businesses in our Nation are eager to hire cheap, submissive manual labor from overseas. Such businesses are hardly ever penalized due to

In addition, several immigrants are demoralized and countless others die in their struggles to cross the border. Various border patrolmen have not only had the need to kill, but have been killed. The borders are clearly unsafe, and with approximately 1,400 immigrants crossing it everyday the U.S is very vulnerable to being in great danger and when the borders are vulnerable, the entire nation is vulnerable. If the borders were more secure, then the number of illegal immigrants sneaking into the country would reduce which would reduce many of the other issues that illegal immigrants cause. To stop the immigration issues, the nation must stop those issues at its core, being the borders. When the borders are taken care of, the issues that come along with them will also be taken care of. Not only do illegal immigrants crossing the border cause border control issues, but they also cause critical national security issues by jeopardizing the safety of the US citizens. For example, in September of 2007, forty-one illegal immigrants with gang ties to the Mexican Mafia, Sureno 13, and the Latin Kings were detained for severe crimes in Northwest Arkansas. A number of of the gang members had been previously deported, however, crossed the border illegally yet again. If a drastic number of deported immigrants are able to cross the border more than once, it is only a matter of time until a terrorist comes along and does a great amount of damage to the
For many years, people from all over the world have come to the United States seeking a better life for themselves, their spouse, their children and even their children's children. However, not every immigrant comes into this country legally and many of these illegal immigrants are poor, uneducated and may be carrying contagious diseases. They may arrive here via human trafficking, smuggling or other methods. There is one thing we know for sure that many of them choose to remain silence when they become victims. The three main reasons they become invisible victims are they are not aware they are victimized, they don't know the right way to ask for help and they are afraid to be fired or even deported.
Every year numerous legal and illegal immigrants originate to the United States. From all around a world, individuals want to arise toward America for an improved existence for them and their families. America is a freedom-oriented country, where everybody has right how to live their life in their own conditions. I myself, I remain immigrant as well. I came to U.S.A. 5 years ago. American culture remains actual diverse somewhat from other cultures. In this country, we all get the liberty to live our life. The United States has permitted additional immigrants to enter the nation than at any past time. Additional Immigrations and immigrants are good for the American economy, while immigrant does not take away jobs from Americans they create more job by owning and opening new businesses.
Illegal immigration has caused a lot of controversy within the United States. The media has influenced our society to make us believe that illegal immigrants are horrible people. One thing that I have learned throughout life is, “Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains (Rousseau 4).” This sums up how society dictates our lives and limits us to what the media wants to us to believe. Whether it is legal or illegal, everybody should be treated equally. Illegal immigrants might always end up with the short end of the stick, but they heavily support the US economy. They contribute by paying taxes every year. In addition, they adopt difficult low wage jobs that are not of interest to the average American.
There are tons and tons of the supposed problems with immigration like, the threat to the U.S. economy. But one of many big problems with immigration is the security problems it creates. The security problems they make pose no direct security threat, but millions of undocumented migrants being in the United States distort the law, distracts resources, and it makes an effective cover for terrorists and criminals. The solution for this problem focuses exclusively on border security.
Many people in America have something against immigrants who come to this country looking for a better life and to escape from violence. “It is certainly not fair that undocumented immigrant workers do not pay taxes, and it is certainly unfair that they use public services without contributing to it” (Miller 55). For these Americans, their perspective on illegal immigrants is that they are nothing but a waste of space in this country and they are taking away this country’s resources and money with all the kids they are making once they accommodate themselves. The Americans who dislike illegal immigrants want the government to send them back to their country because they just cannot stand immigrants. Illegal immigrants learned how to adjust
In “Illegal Immigrants Do Not Harm America’s Economy,” Brian Grow and his colleagues, reporters for Business Week, argue that rather than damaging it, illegal immigrants actually help the economy by paying taxes and advancing general economic growth. The writers are responding to claims that illegal immigrants receive unwarranted negative attention for supposed drains on public services. They also address the fact that, despite possible legal ramifications, companies hire undocumented workers in higher numbers than ever before while the government seems to turn a blind eye. They speak of depressed wages, increased spending, and ambivalent government policies. Grow and the other writers try to
Illegal immigrants have been present in every country ever since governments have been established. Even in the time when Christopher Columbus first set foot on North America, there were already Natives living on the continent. The British immigrants that first established the Thirteen Colonies brought disease and famine with them. Many Natives died from the diseases that the British brought with them. If there had been a federal government in place, the settlers would have been considered illegal immigrants. Many of the Natives were treated unfairly and most likely would have wished to send the British back to whence they came. Alas, this could not be done. Although not entirely in a diplomatic fashion, a treaty was made between the Native Americans and the immigrants that came into their land.
Illegal immigrants help boost the United States economy by paying some taxes. Like American citizens, illegal immigrants may pay local, state, and federal taxes including sales tax that helps support government services that they may not be able to access (Ewing 9). Since more American citizens are becoming aware of the benefits of an education, openings are being created for illegal immigrants in low paying jobs (Nadadur 1037-1052). Americans, unlike illegal immigrants, have more diverse careers. Aliens are more concentrated in specific job areas, resulting in a decrease in immigrant labor cost. This helps boost the United States’ economy (Carter 777-795). Of the approximate eleven million illegal immigrants in the U.S., most work in labor intensive jobs. Careers such as construction and agriculture tend to attract illegal aliens and they account for about twenty-five percent of the work force in these areas (Ewing 9). Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve admits that illegal immigrants help improve the United States economy and does not suggest turning them away (qtd. in Quindlen 90). Anna Quindlen, in her article “Newcomers By Numbers,” agrees with Bernanke and believes that immigrants are the factor that helps keep prices low. She also adds that immigrants are not causing American citizens unemployment, but are simply taking the low wage jobs that citizens are not willing to do and even boosting the economy (90).
For many years Immigration in the United States has been a huge problem, people from all over the world have been crossing over the border to come to the United States to better their lives, families, and education. However, not every immigrant is legal, they sneak into to our country because and some people are poor, to find their families, to get away from the wars, and many other reasons. Immigrants many arrive here in multiple ways like smuggling, human trafficking, and many other reasons. The border and the portal are being questioned for why and how these immigrants are getting into our country especially the ones from Mexico. There has been more than 1.3 million people caught trying to enter the United States illegally from Mexico
In many countries, people who cross the border undocumented usually get sent to jail but in America it is different. America is one of the more wealthy countries and yet still do not have sturdy borders or laws to prevent illegal aliens. Plenty of people trespass the border everyday and get away with crimes that they should be jailed for. Some examples of trespassing include sneaking in without document or permission, entering with a lawful but temporary permit, legal immigrants who commit crimes and are ordered to leave but refuse to, etc. (gale opposing illegal imm.). A recent crime by an illegal alien says, “a women from San Francisco who was killed, allegedly by an undocumented immigrant who’d already been deported five times”(CNN). According to Homeland Security 177,960 Illegal immigrants were deported last year because they were convicted criminals, that is 56% of all people who were deported (Enforcement and Removal Operations, ICE). ICE stands for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This program is responsible for enforcing immigration laws and policies. These statistics prove that not only are Illegal aliens trespassing our borders but also committing more than half the crimes in America. By deporting Illegal Immigrants, America would not suffer people committing crimes nor breaking laws. Illegal Immigrants force the government in making stricter laws, when in reality real citizens are not the main
Each year about 2.5 million Illegal immigrants attempt to cross the border, only about 100,000 and less make it through. Illegal immigrants come to America for a better life. They have gradually increased over time since the 1800’s. Illegal immigrants can come from all parts of the world, but most them come from spanish speaking countries (South and Central America). Most Americans believe illegal immigrants are a problem to the U.S.. Also, Illegal immigrants are believed to be bringing crime, but that 's only a small percent of them. One act committed by a criminal cannot be used to judge all virtuous men and women. There are different ways to enter the U.S. illegally, the basic and the only methods are by land, sea, and even air (airplane). The most commonly used method is by land, crossing by land allows the migrator to have a higher chance of succeeding. A high amount of migrants come to America for a better job opportunity and/or escaping criminal activity back in their home country. Although the reason for their arrival is constantly repeated to most Americans, they still don’t understand the situation. Illegal immigrants are stilled leered by many Americans, so deportation becomes a possible solution. Deportation could decrease their population, but it could open a gap to another issue, the U.S. economy. The U.S. economy is something delicate, something that can’t be played around with. Investing in deporting illegal immigrants won’t do anything positive for the
Our nation, the nation of nations, the greatest nation of all has its flaws. From equality control to the staggering crime rate, many things about this country throw out red flags. Some of the issues, such as the crime and drug problem, may never be diminished. However, some of these issues are easier to solve. One of these issues that are right in front of our eyes as a nation is border control. Through mass deportation, the building of a large wall, and the increase in border patrol officers, the borders of America will be protected once
The United States (US) has always been viewed as the land of opportunity because it is the only true free country in the world. This being the case people have been fighting their way into the country for decades. However, it is becoming more and more of a problem each decade that passes. With the United States border being so close to Mexico it is now seeing the highest population of illegal immigrants to date. The rising population is due to the lack of jobs in their country, poor pay and bad work environments. It has become the issue it has because the US is now having problems with high taxes, steep insurance costs and new laws. Even though the
You may be asking how these illegals have been affecting our National Security. Well for starters, when these immigrants come state side we have no idea why they are coming here, who they are bringing with them, or what they are bringing with them. We also don’t have any clue to how they are getting access to our country either. So these two issues could have the potential to cause significant issues for our country. For example these people could be smuggling in illegal drugs or possibly even weapons. Even though our boarders have the potential to let in drugs and weapons, these could possibly be the worst of our worries in some cases. Another threat that illegal immigration through our boarders poses is that these holes within the boarders
There are two primary challenges behind maintaining security while simultaneously facilitating legal border crossings. The first challenge is efficiency and it is mostly focused on facilitating movement. Facilitating legal border crossings really comes down to being as efficient as possible. Every policy, procedure, and decision made in regards to the systems used to allow for the movement of goods and people across the borders must keep efficiency as a focus. The more efficient the strategy in place, the higher the volumes that can be handled by the same amount of resources. Trade and migration patterns depend on efficient service at the borders and will favor the processes that make movement easier and faster.
