Immigration is a very debated topic in the United States right now. Conservative citizens believe that people who enter the country illegally, or without proper documentation, have no right to stay. The federal government has laws set in place to prevent illegal immigrants from staying in their borders for too long such as taking away their right to work and ensuring that businesses do not hire these people. The government wants to have accountability of its visitors so that it can keep their citizens safe. Texas borders Mexico for approximately 2000 miles and many of the illegal immigrants come through there to work in Texas. The average rent property tax revenue for single residents and family residents were applied appropriately. The sales tax can be calculated by gathering an average income from illegal immigrants and apply the 8.25 percent sales tax. This figure is estimated to be about 1.4 billion according to the Immigration Policy Center. Sin taxes, the taxation on public goods that are not necessary for life and are taxed at a different rate, are difficult to calculate. The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on Texans reports approximately 133 million dollars are generated by illegal immigrants (Martin, 2014). They calculated this number by estimating the average consumption rate of cigarettes and beer and multiplying it by the tax revenue on each item.
