Illegal Immigration and the Destruction of America

Illegal immigration has plagued the United States since immigration laws were created, and has worsened in recent history. Since Ronald Reagan’s Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 provided amnesty for 3 million illegal aliens in exchange for increased border security, millions of people have entered the country illegally. Over the past 30 years, the illegal immigrant population of the country has more than doubled from 5 million in 1986 to over 11.5 million in 2015. It has become one of the most controversial political issues in America. While not every undocumented alien is a bad or dangerous person, illegal immigrants in general are a national security threat, harmful to the economy, and a burden on the social welfare system. The best solution to the illegal alien problem is to secure and enforce the border, purge American territory of every person unlawfully trespassing upon it, and reform the immigration system to make it easier for foreigners to enter the United States legally like people have done for centuries.

Many of the values that brings America together as a nation, is due to immigration. America is a melting pot of variety of people that brings great contribution to the growth and transformation in the workforce. Immigrants has been strengthen America 's economy every since the 18th century American industrial revolution. During the American industrial revolution, it offers a great opportunity for people outside of the border for investment, employment, and productivity towards the economy. As a result, many foreigners has arrived to fill these roles and not only help them to settle but benefited the economy in the process. It furthers expanded in the technology revolution, in the early industrial revolution, which factories has machinery that required huge amount of man power that allowed an increase in productivity and production for the United States. After 9/11, America’s ideals begin to shift pertaining to immigrants, our nation’s safety, and border patrol. Since legal immigrants are taking citizens’ jobs, the unemployment rate is higher for U.S. born citizens rather than immigrants. "There are approximately 7.7 million illegal aliens employed in U.S. jobs in 2008" ("Illegal Immigration Facts & Statistics”). One reason why non-citizens of the U.S. are working is because many employers consider them to be cheap labor which saves the employers money. An example of cheap labor I experienced was while working at a pizza restaurant. The owner of the restaurant liked to hire sixteen or seventeen-year old Mexicans that he would make work every day except Sunday from ten in the morning until nine at night. I know that the Mexicans were being paid only one-hundred dollars a week for working sixty-six hours. When I quit the restaurant, he only had one Mexican and one Venezuelan working for him as cheap laborers. Like him, self-owned managers prefer immigrants over American citizens because that saves them money. Having an effective border patrol not only gives more jobs to American citizens, but it also helps to keep illegal immigrants out of the country.

Whatever happened to the 854 miles of border fencing that American citizens were promised on the U.S. southern border? If the government really wanted to stop illegal immigration, they should pursue it a bit more aggressively. This is not something that can be fixed overnight, but the government needs to at least show some means of urgency toward this serious matter since “only 12 miles of the 854 miles of border fencing called for in the Secure Fence Act have been constructed” (“Border Fencing Is Crucial…”). It seems that the government obviously must not care too much about American security. Keeping the border wide open creates a major passageway for illegal immigrants, drug smuggling, and terrorism. Today one of the biggest issues in America is illegal immigration; these people travel from all over the world, and illegally cross national borders onto U.S soil in desperation to find a better life. Immigrants come to America in hopes of fulfilling the American dream, being free and safe from their original home lands. Most immigrants are illegal and come by the millions each year, which lead to many controversial disputes. Despite many concerns related to immigration, it has several positive benefits that mostly outweighs the negativity. People bizarrely argue when it comes to immigration, but these arguments are primarily based on facts and ideas that are outdated or inconsistent and blindfold the positive aspect related to immigration. Many immigrants in the United States are good workers who don't depend upon any public welfare and mostly help in the overall development of the economy. These facts are secluded, and some related arguments with different content have been repeated for years and continue. Apart from the Native American ancestry, all others trace their culture back to somewhere else (Soerens, M. 2013). In my opinion, the U.S has increasing rate of immigrants, than any other country. It is also successful in providing facilities like education, employment and various career opportunities for global immigrants even today.
