Inside every one of us exists a number of immeasurable forces. Some of these forces present themselves in daily scenarios and tasks, while others only appear when we are faced with challenges that at the time seem near impossible to overcome. Trials we face in our lifetime sometimes give us an idea of how much of these forces exist inside us. Other challenges present us with opportunities to increase the strength of these forces. Before seventh grade, I wasn’t sure how determined of a person I was. I had not yet been faced with a great failure, and things typically worked out in my favor. While I was far from being able to say I had always received and achieved everything I wanted, when I shot for something, I normally at least got close to the mark. The first time this changed I was forced to ask myself exactly how far determination could push me when faced with failure. In the spring of my seventh grade year, I tried out for the track team. I had only recently started running and was far from a one hundred meter dash champion. There was an enormous amount of other kids trying out, but I was confident that at the end of the three days of tryouts, I would make the team. The morning after the third day of tryouts the names of those who made the team were posted …show more content…
I recognize that what determines whether we succeed or fail, accomplish our goals for fall short, is the driving force within us. Nobody goes through their life without facing difficult challenges. No matter what the reason is we need to overcome a challenge, confidence in the ability to do what it takes to succeed is essential. The mind is an incredibly powerful tool we all possess, the force within it that some call ambition, and others call initiative, I call determination. Belief in myself and an undying desire to accomplish my personal goals, drives me towards success in everything I
Encouragement plays a significant role in my success. Without encouragement, the achievement won't come true. Juliet Ferking, the author of "A Drive to Achieve the Extraordinary" from This I Believe: Life Lessons, tells her story about
After that moment, I no longer saw myself as an intelligent kid who was unable to fail, but one who was and could be challenged by failure and challenged to learn from my mistakes. After revising the essay, I received an “A+,” yet this was not what made me happy. The fact that I, the twelve-year-old boy who had previously rejected failure as a possibility, could accept failure (by my standards) and use it as
A barrier or hindrance of the Achiever strength is often forgetting to “celebrate” and “recognize” others and myself for a job well done. Once a goal has been achieved, my mind starts thinking of the next task at hand. I also find myself getting frustrated with others that do not possess the same drive and dedication.
Fast forward to the next year, I showed up at tryouts. I was confident, but still nervous considering what happened the year before. As I jumped in the pool I was ready for whatever the coach threw at me. Not once did I get lapped. The coach posted the list, I anxiously looked over it and saw my name. Relieved and overjoyed, I had finally made it. Later that year I even won the coaches award at the banquet. Forget about making the team, I was now an
It was just another school night in the seventh grade. Our recreational tackle football team had a practice at 730pm until 9. It was a very swampy night and from that I felt myself very sluggish. At the time, I was a backup running back. I was always left on the sidelines facing the chills of the cold wind during games. I typically didn’t get to see much playing time on the field, but that night I got my opportunity. I was receiving kicks during a punting audition and all I was doing was catching the ball and throwing it back, nothing unique. One throw after another, my coach began to praise my arm strength. Seeing me pass the ball was a true eye-opener. That night, I went from a backup running back, to the starting quarterback of my rec
Vince Lombardi once said, “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will.” Most people throughout the world strive for success in whatever they may be doing, and along with this, many reasons contribute to why success is achieved or not. If a person does not succeed, they may automatically blame themselves because of their level of strength. Others may blame themselves for not having enough knowledge about what they are trying to succeed at. The real reason that people may not succeed, however, is their low level of will, determination, and happiness. Both knowledge and strength combine to help a person succeed because of the will and determination that
The motivation that results from the doubt or disbelief of others is very powerful and it has the ability to make the impossible a reality. We have all heard the stories of the wealthy businessmen and the famous sports athletes who defied the little chance they had to succeed in life. These are true examples of what a person can accomplish when he uses the doubt of others to motivate himself to accomplish an extremely difficult goal. The significance and pleasure of this type of motivation can not be denied. However, it is even more important for a person to be internally motivated and not have to rely on the influence of others.
Towards the end of my freshman year of high school I was getting ready for school cheer tryouts. I felt confident with myself because I was doing my best. I practiced every night before tryouts. During tryouts I wasn't nervous at all and I felt confident in myself. When I went to look at the list that night I walked up and didn't see my name, I was devastated. I thought that it was my biggest failure in life ever but it wasn't, it was actually one of the biggest life lessons I've learned.
In the inspirational video by Mateusz, Unbroken - Motivational Video on YouTube, one can see the power of fear and how it kills dreams, holds us back from dreams, and paralyzes us. Yet we see people succeed in spite of these fears and then we wonder 'what is their formula for success'? It may not be so simple, but perhaps it is these fears that create our resistance. Perhaps it is only when our dissatisfaction, coupled with a vision and first step, together begin to exceed that resistance we can feel like we can change (i.e. Gleicher's Formula - DxVx F>R).
Determination is a driving force. For me, the determination to succeed has been my greatest ambition. I have strove to push my limits; to surpass even own my expectations. My determination to succeed has been the leading factor in everything I do for the larger portion of my life. I was determined to pass high school with fantastic grades. I was determined to ace every test and every paper. I was determined to get accepted into Arkansas State University. I am determined to become a doctor and help others. I am determined to be something bigger; to have something much greater.
When I was a freshman in high school, I tried out for the Minnesota High Performance Hockey Team. I was so excited that I got invited to try out because I knew this is where all of the best players in the state came together to play hockey. After the tryout process, I anxiously awaited the news of whether or not I made the team. A couple days later, I got the tryout results. I was devastated that I did not make the team. After I thinking about it for a few days, I decided that I was going to work extremely hard and make the team the next year. I put forth my best effort at all of my different practices, and put in extra time outside of practice to work towards my goal. Sophomore year tryouts came, and once again, I was determined to make the
After a long couple of weeks the tryout arrived. The first day seemed intense with many people trying out. Most of these kids were just looking for a sport to play and had never played before. This loosened me up and I started to lose the butterflies. It was a long lasting 2 hour try out and I was glad to be done. I worked my tail off and hoped for the best. I became very nervous as I came home. In the car down the long black street that you could see the heat waves coming off of, my father peppered me with
However, if we choose to give up on ourselves in the middle of the journey just because we have low self-esteem and do not believe that others can support us, we can never be successful. Hence, only the person who endures throughout the journey and believes strongly in hope is qualified enough to be successful.
Ambition, passion, and pride. These three concepts are what drive an individual to take risks to achieve their goals. In the beginning, before a goal is set, a chaotic assortment of fragments are formed, by various outside influences, which eventually combine into powerful and inspiring dreams. After the long brutally fought war for the title as the strongest driven thought is over, the sole survivor becomes the individual's leading ambition. The once farfetched daydream suddenly becomes reality and finally attainable in the individual's perspective. The chosen aspiration is then engraved into one’s mind and drives the individual to the brink of exhaustion to reach their ambition by obtaining the experience and opportunities one needs to become successful. Yet between this point of the path and the end, many potentially strong-willed beings find themselves restrained by various obstacles, such as a family circumstances or the lack of opportunity. It's here where the once brightly lit desire is smothered out by cold harsh waters of life and is usually never to be seen again.
Not to mention, that by believing in yourself and raising your level of self confidence, obstacles will be easier to overcome. Understanding these analogies and philosophies are going to be what you need to learn how to gain momentum from
