It is questioned whether the Cold War was one of the various influential events in the history of the United States. Arguably the Cold War had changed many aspects of the United States in ways such as economics, social, political, and military developments. Which can be determined and validated by the events linked to Communism, Vietnam war, and Civil Rights movement. Moreover, the particular events had effectively changed the point of view and outlook of the nation.
Before all else, Communism was one of the main leading factors that had changed the nation in more ways than one. Initially, communism of the Soviet Union had started the cold war, by the expansion of it. Which then had frightened people, mainly the United States. Thus came the idea of containment. In 1947 president Harry S. Truman had announced a program that in which would "Aid to European countries – particularly Greece and Turkey- threatened by communism" ( Foner A101) which is then called the "Truman Doctrine". Thereafter, another program had been proposed by General George C. Marshall in 1947 "comprehensive program to rebuild Europe. Fanned by the fear of Communist expansion and the rapid deterioration of European economies in the winter of 1946–1947, Congress passed the Economic Cooperation Act in March 1948 and approved funding that would eventually rise to over $12 billion for the rebuilding of Western Europe."
