After presenting my impact speech, I felt a little disappointed with how it went compared to the way I’d been practicing it. I felt that my thesis, writing having an impact on people, was very clear. But, the way that I got there was not. In this speech, I could have done a better job at making all my content relate back to the thesis. When I write the rest of the speeches for this class, I need to keep my thesis in mind for me to improve the effectiveness. I believe I had an effective introduction because I captured the audience’s attention as well as informed what I would be talking about. I loved asking a question to begin with and getting the audience participating and engaged from the start. I knew going into the speech that my …show more content…
Because I already do this, it is going to be the hardest habit to brake. Before and during my speech, I must remind myself to keep my feet planted when I stand. I need to evenly disperse my weight 50/50 on my feet to eliminate my natural lean. One of my least favorite things when watching speeches is when people simply stare at their notecards. Although I am not a terrible culprit of this habit, it is still one that I want to brake. When I practiced at home I often did not use my notecard and was easily able to get through it. Yet, when it came time to deliver my speech I kept looking at it like I needed it. In the future I want to set my notecard down and only pick it up when I need it, it is not something I want to keep in my hand throughout the speech. I felt that the voice projection I used thought my speech was very fit, using my diaphragm to produce a louder deeper sound helps immensely. I naturally talk with my hands which helps me do it in my speeches, but I feel that I can improve even more. Using more relevant hand gestures would enhance the clarity of my speech, as well aiding me in looking professional and distinguished while speaking. One of my internal issues while speaking is getting distracted. When I saw the time giver hold up the signs I would start thinking about the time and completely lose my place in my speech. The only way I can think to avoid this problem, is making sure I know my speech forwards, backwards, and every other way, so the simple
Education is an important factor when one wants to be successful in his or her academic career. Children are especially responsible for their academic success. President Obama states in his speech to America’s school children that each individual student has to take charge of their own education. The effectiveness of President Obama’s speech has a powerful impact on school age children because he wants students everywhere in America and around the world to do their best
Persuasion is key when trying to compel your audience to do or believe something. Barack Obama, Martin Luther King Jr. and Fannie Lou Hamer all delivered powerful, persuasive speeches that will go down in history. The use of these creative individuals’ language and persuasion played a pivotal role within the civil rights movement. We can observe this in the speakers’ rhetoric devices like ethos, logos and pathos.
Additionally, I find out that I should change my use in language for the opening and summary. It’s obvious that “often the thesis statement overlaps significantly with the purpose of a speech, but not always (Joshua, 87).” I started my speech thesis by saying “So today I am going to show you three artifacts which are all my favorites and can determine who I am. They are anime, horror movie and spicy

Thesis Statement: Through his early life experiences and with the knowledge he left behind, Sir Isaac Newton was able to develop calculus, natural forces, and optics. From birth to early childhood, Isaac Newton overcame many personal, social, and mental hardships. It is through these experiences that helped create him to be the person we know today, that is why he is worthy of the Scientist of the Century award.
I think I did a good job presenting my ethos through my speech story. I convince my audience with my credibility through my speech and the way how talk throughout the speech. For example, throughout my whole speech, I shown my hands and did not hide my hands. By keeping my hands in plain view, it shows my audience nonverbally that I can be trusted. The volume of my voice was at a normal speaking tone and was not too low. Most of my audience was able to hear me and listen to me very clearly. I also presented myself with confidence and gave off the impression that I was prepared. For example, I had a smile and had constant eye contact with my audience throughout my speech. There was certain things that I was doing that was ineffective while I was talking. Throughout my speech, I kept saying um and was pausing at times. I did not realize how much I was saying and doing these actions. These actions are something I need to work on more when I present my public communication to my audience
Paul Keating’s speech ‘funeral service of the unknown Australian soldier’ and Noel Pearson’s speech ‘an Australian history for us all’ have developed and expressed ideas using language appropriate to their audience, purpose and form. Despite the fact, it is fundamentally the speaker’s skills in the construction of the speech that determine its decisive success.
Lyndon Johnson was convinced that liberal nationalism and the power of the federal government could transform society. His faith grew out of his youthful experiences with poverty in Texas, his political apprenticeship during the New Deal, and his desire to surpass Roosevelt's legacy. When he took office in November 1963, after John F. Kennedy's death, Johnson inherited the early initiatives to address poverty that the Kennedy administration had under consideration. With characteristic enthusiasm and expansiveness, Johnson declared a war on poverty in 1964 and pushed legislation through Congress to establish the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO).In this speech, the purpose Lyndon B. Johnson outlines his vision and goals for "The Great
In the first speech for this class, my main goals were to gain confidence to voice my ideas and use speech to make a difference in peoples’ lives, and to practice overcoming my speech anxiety therefore be able to use my nerves to focus myself. Overall, I believe that I did improve in both of these areas as a result of information from the book, mini speeches, and the larger speeches.

The best way to prepare for a presentation, one must consider the best method, the type of presentation and the audience for a given topic. There are four different types of presentation methods they are; Impromptu, Extemporaneous Speaking, Using a Manuscript, and Memorization. Each of the four methods is appropriate in certain situations. Impromptu is a speech that frequently involves no preparation time and forces you to think on your feet. With no opportunity to prepare, you must rely on what you know. Extemporaneous is a speech that involves preparation and practice. This form of delivery has many advantages.
Eight students participated in a study of the Irrelevant Speech Effect. Irrelevant speech disrupts immediate serial recall. In this study we test the disruptive effects of irrelevant speech on serial recall. In this experiment participants saw a list of randomly ordered digits 1-9. During the some trials they heard irrelevant speech in the background, while other trials were quiet. This irrelevant speech was a passage from Franz Kafka in German (Francis, Neath, & VanHorn, 2008). We found a main effect of Trial Type, which were the quiet and irrelevant speech background conditions. This is evidence that the irrelevant speech effect did take place.
An American literary theorist and novelist, Kenneth Burke, once said, “Wherever there is persuasion, there is rhetoric, and wherever there is rhetoric, there is meaning.” (Burke) Barack Obama, Martin Luther King Jr. and Fannie Lou Hamer all delivered powerful persuasive speeches that will go down in history. The use of these motivational individuals’ language and persuasion played a pivotal role within the civil rights movement, the movement that achieved the most important breakthrough in the equal rights legislation.
