Importance of internships in the life of a law student
William Shakespeare:
Ignorance is the curse of God; knowledge is the wing wherewith we fly to heaven.
As rightly pointed out by the legend of literature that with the power of knowledge one can have access to the doors of heaven. It is not only he who recognised the importance and value of knowledge in the world, but several brilliant minds have also focused on its vitality and proficiency that it possess within itself.
In my point of view, every knowledge has two aspects viz. theoretical aspects and practical aspects and both are interdependent in such a way that unavailability of one makes the other an utter waste. In order to accomplish best in any walks of life, one must pursue both the aspects of knowledge. Since the ancient times, the theoretical aspect has been very much prevailing in our society, but since past two decades, practical aspects are also gaining importance which has ultimately led to the phenomenal growth of internships in every field of life around every corner on the world. The Indian Education System has also diverted itself towards acquiring practical knowledge by way of internships. Today, whether it is law, engineering, medical science, journalism, literature etc. every field provides an opportunity of getting practical experience in the name of internships.
Therefore, the importance of internships is increasing day by day. It provides a way to apply theoretical knowledge into practical
Intern Nation by Ross Perlin tells you most everything you ever wanted to know about internships and then some. Equal parts history lesson, tell all and personal commentary, this should be assigned reading for anyone considering taking part in an internship. It has been coded into the minds of the young job seekers today that they must first work for free if they ever hope to find a good paying position. Perlin sends the necessary message though that the system that has been put in place to make this possible is cracked and presents a bad deal for internship seeking individual.
Beyond getting an insider’s look at their future job, interns and apprentices also gain valuable industry connections they can use to land a job upon graduation.
Internship is a six to eight weeks working experience in any organization. The purpose behind doing an internship is to get familiar with a professional working environment. Often students do internships during there vacations so as to gain experience in their field of interest. Students studying engineering, computer science, textiles or business management; they are required to perform at least an internship so as to receive degree from their respective institutions. The purpose of writing this essay is to share my wonderful working experience as an internee at Spyglass Winery. I loved every minute of it as I discovered several new skills and came across with some interesting job opportunities. This statistical analysis (www.fasttrackinternships.com) shows the rate of full time job placements according to the number of internships completed.
Does the internship help the interns decide if they like this area of law? Does it affect the career choice for the interns? Finding previous relevant research that correlates with my topic was very difficult, because not a lot of studies have been conducted with respect to interns and internship effects., However, with using these keywords: legal setting, internships, interns, motivation. I was able to find three relevant articles that some how were relevant with the proposed study that I wanted to conduct.
One without knowledge can only conform to a leader or the majority’s will. A man from a cave, who has experienced the taste of enlightenment, would never return to his former dwelling with the same ideals he left behind. Plato meticulously introduced this idea in his allegory comparing the enlightenment o knowledge to a man, who found light after only recognizing darkness since birth. Despite the pain light can induce to eyes adjusted to the pitch black cave, the man was happier in the light than in the dark. Knowledge can aid in overcoming pain to find ecstasy. Knowledge would then develop into wisdom that can educate future generations of one’s own thoughts and culture. Knowledge and wisdom are inevitable assets to
An internship can also heighten the awareness of community issues, motivates to create opportunities, embrace new ideas, and give direction to positive change. A successful internship can provide valuable information in making decisions about the direction of future studies or employment. An internship is an opportunity to not only use and develop industry-related knowledge and skills, but also to enhance some of the skills that are transferable to any professional work setting. For some people, the internship is the first introduction to the world of work. No matter where the skills and understanding of professionalism lie, internship is a chance to develop them even further.
Students receive on-the-job experience prior to graduation, and the internship assists them in obtaining permanent employment. Facilities benefit from the opportunity to participate in and improve the formal education process. Quite often, students who complete professional practice experiences are later employed by the facility at which they completed the internship.
We as humans tend to have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. We look for knowledge about everybody and everything that surrounds us from our day-to-day life. Sadly though, we must accept that in the grand scheme of life we (as a society) tend to put pleasure above our quest for knowledge. The pursuit of knowledge tends to take time and energy, two things we call invaluable, and it also shows us things that might depress us. Contrastingly, ignorance takes no time and energy. Also, (as the common saying goes) ignorance is bliss. It keeps ugly truths away from us. But that is no reason to forsake knowledge for ignorance. In the early 1900’s, two books were published that would eventually be referred to the pinnacle of classical literature.
The first chapter of Ecclesiastes, a book in the Bible, concludes with the words, “For in much wisdom is much grief, and increase of knowledge is increase of sorrow.” This quotation explains that the more you understand and discover about the world the more despondent you will become. In The Awakening, Kate Chopin shows that knowledge can cause grief while knowledge can also cause empowerment and self-fulfillment.
Knowledge is a powerful tool, one which will unlock many doors for us as individuals and as the whole of the human race, but we must always remember the consequences of gaining knowledge. It is both our blessing and our curse, and we must never forget that knowledge is a power, what we do with that power will determine our fate and
The internship, even though it includes actual operation of the facilities of the employer, is similar to training which would be given in an educational environment;
With great knowledge comes great sorrow. Life has proven that with more knowledge, the threat of sadness and anger increase. Knowledge in itself is a powerful component of life. Knowledge is the book that holds the small, seemingly insignificant facts of life.
b. The skills or knowledge learned in the internship must be transferable to other employment
Typically, internships are professional experiences that students participate in to gain professional skills and experiences. In this particular experience at Accounting Firm X I did in fact gain substantial professional skill while participating in new and challenging experiences. Internships allow in- class material to come to life in a practical manner. My internship did do this but not in a way that I had planned.
Knowledge, in itself, is nothing. It can even be a burden we are gathering tirelessly and than we carry it through a lifetime, climbing obstacles, overcoming challenges, our knowledge barely helping, and sometimes pulling us back instead.
