Importance of Life Choices The choices an individual makes in his or her life, both past and present will affect the way it shapes the person in the future. Life choices are very influential to one’s life as it shapes their views and influences how it unfolds. What one might see as an important life choice, another may find to be a hindrance towards decisions he or she would need to make in future instances. Many life events can help shape who an individual will become later in life.
Initially, past experiences prove to be a positive or negative impact on the type of person they will become, depending on the way he or she chooses to let it impact their life. In the short story “Flowers for Algernon,” by Daniel Keyes the main character, Charlie, is used to portray symbolism in a way that it makes the reader comprehend every word and small detail. At the beginning of this story Charlie is filled with joy and is clueless until he is faced with the option to undergo an operation forcing him to show how strong and hard working he is willing to be. Proof of his joy and hard work on page 202 shows Charlie, much like one would be at such an opportunity was thrilled, “Their going to use me! Im so excited I can hardly write.” along with, on page 203, “He said I had a good motor-vation. I never even knew I had that. I felt proud when he said that not everybody with an eye-q of 68 had that thing.” In certain circumstances individuals can be just as gullible as Charlie, getting his or

Since the beginning of time, the environment in which one is accustomed to provides them with the choices that lead down paths that make their legacy. This environment can be negative or positive, structured or chaotic, rich or poor, all which give a variety of choices. Regardless of the different trials and tribulations we face ultimately, it is the choices we make in response that make us the person we become.
Fate works in mysterious ways, everyone makes choices out of their own free will which affects their
Anything you do makes you change who you are. Even what happens in your life can affect your choices you make that shape your identity.
As the author said, sometimes the fate can be changed by choice you make. It encourages the reader that it is always possible to change and fix destinies before it is too late. One important quote that the author wrote is, “This book is meant to show us how... our destinies can be determined by a single stumble down the wrong path , or a tentative step down the right one." (Moore xiv).
“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things”, -Henry Miller. When one reads this quote, it may have a different meaning to them than to others. To Charlie Gordon, it practically defines his life journey. In the shorty story “Flowers for Algernon”, Charlie Gordon is a main who obtains an IQ of 68, and desires to be smart. Charlie finally gets his dream one day by partaking in an intelligence enhancing operation. His perspective of life is much different before and after the surgery. Although Charlie seems happy before the surgery, Charlie is able to apprehend reality through a “pair of new eyes”, regarding the operation. Three arguments why Charlie’s emotions are happier following the surgery are: He learns about lies he had in life, Charlie had a positive learning experience, and Charlie discerns his full potential.

To what degree can an individual’s choices and actions influence the direction of his or her life?
The decisions people make often have a significant impact on their lives. They may seem insignificant now but could change your whole future. Everyone has to make decisions on a day-to-day basis, some are simpler than others but the fact is everyone makes them. In fact Elie Wiesel had to make some tough decisions. Which involved life or death, due to the Holocaust.
If Charlie would have accepted himself the way he was before the operation, he would have avoided all the trouble. His loved one Alice could not stand him anymore because he made her feel uncomfortable and strained due to all the absurd things he was talking about, for example neo-Boulean mathematics and post-symbolic logic. He realized that having a high I.Q is not just a bed of roses. For example, While arguing Alice told Charlie that, “There’s more to it than just having a high I.Q” (300). This shows how much Charlie had actually changed since the surgery, and not necessarily in a good
