Education is the key to success You must of heard education is the key to success. Well, that’s very true, but how will kids achieve that education when they are receiving poor lunches at school? If there could could be one significant change in the public education system, it should be the lunch students receive. Students receive poor lunches at school. When students receive these poor lunches they end up not eating, causing them to starve the rest of the school day. This takes their minds off in class because they are just so hungry, causing them not to do work, and falling behind. Also, when students don’t eat, their health gets bad, causing them to lose weight, get dizzy, etc. When Kids have these poor health's they tend to miss school,
In the United States many citizens face hunger, starvation and malnutrition on a daily basis. This food insecurity affects millions of Americans. Food insecurity is caused when Americans don’t have enough money to purchase food for themselves and their family. When children experience hunger if affects them both physically and psychologically. “Children who are denied an adequate diet are at a greater risk of not reaching their full potential as individuals. Undernourished youngsters have trouble concentrating and bonding with other children and are more likely to suffer illnesses resulting in school absences.” (Karger, p 371) It is important for children to meet their full potential in order for society to continue thriving into the future. If children are not receiving an adequate education because they have an empty stomach, then they will not continue to higher education or they will do poorly. In order to combat hunger in children the federal government responded with several major programs. Two of the programs the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP) are targeted towards school age children. These programs provide students with breakfast and lunch while they are at school.
What is does every kid look forward to during their school day? Lunch and recess. What kids eat at lunch reflects on the rest of their day. That includes energy levels, academic performance, and how much they engage. Meaning a poor lunch that is high in fats and lacking nutrition results in a sluggish child and some claim is a factor of the childhood obesity epidemic. School lunches should be reevaluated to provide students with a nutrient balance diet to help supply children with healthy brain functions to increase productivity in school, promotes beneficial future eating habits which can prevent further obesity issues in children, and it promotes an increase of attendance. To change what the schools here in the United States serve children food we have to take a deeper look into who is in charge, analyze the current standards and policies, and compare it to what a proper diet should be for children.
Do you think your school needs improvements? I think my school has a few, but the lunches are easily the most recognizable. The school board should change our lunches because they are microwaved, they are not filling, and the school lunches have the same thing every day of the week. Seriously, none of the kids like them, so just get us brand named foods.
One of the most controversial issues today is the question of how to address childhood obesity. Because of the large proportion of meals that children, particularly low-income children, consume in schools, cafeteria food has been targeted by dietary reformers as in need of a major overhaul. However, while many different types of new school menus have been proposed, the extent to which healthier foods can be offered remains controversial. Opponents to reform state that children will not eat healthier lunches, and that changing the food that children eat will have minimal impact, since the children will either bring food from home or eat food at home that is more 'kid friendly.'
A solution to have better school lunches is to increase the budget of school spending for children, this mean having more better quality food which children will enjoy more and have more nutrients. Nutrients and low fatty content is what is being aimed for here, since we are trying to prevent children from eating harmful foods to there bodies. Also if not able to get better quality food at public schools, they should implement a law where children have to physical activities like exercising inside or
Children in America are faced with different choices every day. Some of these choices can be either good or bad for them. But these children don't really know the consequences of their actions, but the school does. Schools are serving unhealthy and un properly cooked meals to children every single day. These food companies make big money from these schools because the schools just buy the lunches so the kids will eat something. The schools don't really care what goes into the students stomachs, but as long as the school meets the requirements it's okay. Then the students just eat it because it looks and taste good, but they don't have an idea of what their eating is made out of or where it has been before. The government needs to start making school lunches more healthy for these students, if not then then unfortunately the number of obese children will rise.
The National School Lunch Program is a great resource for schools to use, to help provide children whom may not be able to afford their own lunches. The problem with the program though is that the recent changes to the requirements schools must follow make it difficult to provide lunches that are appealing and fulfilling to students. Schools also find that it is costing them more to try and follow these requirements and there is a lot more waste because students are not happy. The NSLP needs to change some of its requirements so schools can have some freedom in how lunches are prepared so students will be more likely to eat them. They also need to take in consideration that not every student should follow the same calorie count and how not have enough can affect a student, and too much creates waste. With certain changes the NSLP can be successful once again.
The goals,is to improve school food, teach nutrition, support sustainable food systems, and create an education program focused on understanding the relationships between food, culture, health, and the environment.By the time today’s kindergartner finishes high school, she may have eaten well over 4,000 school meals—4,000 opportunities to strengthen her body and mind, introduce food pleasures that will make her a lifelong healthy eater, and deepen her engagement with the natural world. The more than 5.5 billion lunches and nearly 2 billion breakfasts served yearly in school programs, along with complementary education programs, can have a profound effect on issues of public health, academic performance, economics, justice, national security,
There are many ways to change lunches at schools and it would have a drastic difference for the students. To start with, one of the main problems is the people in charge of the cafeteria, not doing anything to change the food and the lunch period for the students. For example, when a student is struggling in school, teachers have ignored the fact that the food that they consume could be a problem. Most teachers don’t consid er that the school food could be a problem of any students education. In addition, Reachers at Cornell university found that a longer lunch time kids will eat more and more healthier food, only if the healthy food was provided.
School lunches are important because it affects the health, lifestyle, and education of kids. Kids need nutrients in school lunches because then they can become healthy and grow up to be strong and healthy adults. School lunches are also important because by eating healthy, it will give kids energy throughout the rest of their day. Kids will also be able to focus in school because healthy lunches will help kids stay alert and their grades will improve. If kids are eating unhealthy school lunches, they will not be able to focus in school because they are not getting the nutrients they need. Healthy school lunches will prevent kids from becoming obese and healthy school lunches will improve the health of kids. The medical cost would also be
Therefore we need to change the school lunch system even if we would spend a bit more money on school lunches. As a result, we would offer healthier and satisfying school lunches. It would only cost about $5 per child and annually about $27 billion dollars,it may sound to be a costly price. In response to that, there would be an immense outcome of benefits, such as lessening obesity and kids would be able to focus more in school because they would be obtaining healthier school lunches. Proven by researchers' children can process and learn more accurately by eating nutritious meals, unfortunately current lunch meals can not help improve that. Also, several kids are only able to get their meals at school because of financial circumstances. So if it was possible to have nutritious lunches they would get healthier vitamins and
I think that the district should fund school lunches more or this could remain a serious problem. Some kids don’t eat lunch and they don’t get to eat until a few hours later when they arrive home. Several other problems include some of the lunches aren’t healthy, they don’t fill kids and are just plain bad. Some examples of how my solution would impact the kids is that the school can order/make better or fresher food. Also the lunches could have more vitamins and nutrients if it’s made in the kitchen. Therefore if the food was ordered, it would be from a better, more well-known brand for making that specific food, and they would arrive before anything so that lunch is ready for the kids. I believe that if the school district funded school lunches
a) The motivation is to convince the readers that school lunches have become healthier as to erase the perception that cafeteria food is terrible. As well, these statistics are being used to determine if healthier school lunches "will help ease the obesity epidemic among the nation's children." This study was done as to determine the influence of school lunches on the obesity epidemic and to show whether the government has taken the right approach to lower obesity rates or need to take a different approach.
Besides financially, providing free lunch for students and reducing hunger will help student’s academic performance in the classroom. This helps the teacher in the long run as students have better test performance’s, and are better behaved (Pyke, 2013.) According to No Kids Hungry annual education survey three quarters of America’s teachers say they have students who routinely show up to class hungry. (www.nokidhungry.org). Also in this report it states that many of the free and reduced lunch programs are hugely under enrolled. If students were able to receive free lunch and breakfast at schools, an estimated 3.2
as well as many other unhealthy things are allowed under the minimum policy. I attended school at Walters and can remember how bad the school lunches were. After discussing the policy it’s self I discussed how my own opinion about doing just the bare minimum when it comes to the health and nutrition of out children was not enough. Along with the minimum policy, there were also optional policy and the HealthierUS Schools Challenge. These policies were stated in the School Wellness Policy Model, and held school lunches at a much higher nutrition stander then the minimum policy did. My opinion on school meals was that Walters needed to adopt some of the optional policies, and started the HealthierUs School Challenge, which in turn would provide
