Improvements in agriculture, transportation, and communication between 1790 and 1860 were the stepping stones for a greater America. From the cotton gin, to the steamboat, to the telegraph, new innovations were appearing all over. America had finally begun to spread its wings and fly.

I believe that America’s gift to my generation is freedom, technology, useful objects and utensils. I think that my generation has taken a lot for granted, we have many rights and have many things people didn’t have before but were made for future generations such as mine.

American citizens today are so obsessed with being the future that they forget to live in the present. Wendell Berry, a writer that appreciates simplicity, asserts that Modern America has put education, the economy, and technology over religion, family bonding, happiness, and health. He disapprove the use of electronics because he feels that it does not significantly outclass the usage of a pen and a paper. While electronics did make life simplistic, Berry is correct in disapprove technology in that it alters one’s priorities, causes us to lose our abilities to concentrate, and causes citizens to miss out on the real world around them because it makes humans unable to fully live their life independently.

Numerous technological advancements changed the lives of Americans. The latest digital age has presented us with an abundance of opportunities to learn and advance from. New technological advances increases the need for higher level thinking and problem solving in the twenty-first century. The job of new technological advances is not to replace a teacher, but to enhance and create new experiences though them. In "Project Classroom Makeover", author Cathy Davidson, claims that the current educational model does not benefit the next generation 's needs as a growing and advancing society. A transformation of the current educational learning model has the potential to affect how one can contribute to communal change in individuals via crowdsourcing, critical thinking, rigor, relevance, and relationship.

The bitten apple on the backs of devices seen almost everywhere had its start roughly 40 years ago. Apple Computer, Inc. was formed by Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs on the first of April in 1976. That day changed America’s dependence on technology forever. The popularity of personal computers and mobile devices has undoubtedly increased year by year. Social interaction has changed completely within American society with the introduction of networking and other methods of electronic communication. The wide range of information made available through the internet and accessible devices built a ‘library’ of material for anyone to use. The age of the internet has changed American lives, for better or for worse.

The advancement in technology has changed the way people listen to rock and roll and music in general. The changes in American lifestyle have affected the way bands and artists are perceived. Today the internet and the use of smart phones have taken over the American lifestyle. The majority of Americans today either have smartphones, iPods, mp3 players, or computers. All of these devices are able to have access to the internet and rock and roll music is been heard less and less through CD’s and albums and more on mobile devices. The American lifestyle today is more about being on the go and communicating and receiving information faster than ever before, compared to the 2000’s and years before that.

America’s gift to our generation is freedom, education, and technology. Education is important to our generation is because without education we will not be able to go to school and learn about math, reading, history, and science. Without education all of what we own will not exist to this day like technology that we use everyday and also the products that we use to this day will not be around. Another reason why education is important to our generation so students can be prepared for the world that awaits them and to get a job that students have learned over the school years that they were in. Those are my reasons that education is important to our generation.

Throughout United States history, technological developments have played an important role in transforming American society. These developments have had both positive and negative effects on the United States and on American society. Two of these significant developments includes railroads and elevators, which were invented in 1890 and is still in use to this day. Both of the invention are important as the way they change American’s way of life living through that time period and to now. Elevators were a technological tool that aided transportation between floors for tall skyscrapers and buildings.

Technological Systems in America During the 20th Century Of the technological advancements that were made in the 20th century, there are many that contributed to the modernization of America as well. Among these systems include the transportation systems, warehouse systems, as well as systems that help maintain stability and are needed to help with functions in the society they exist in but. It is important to understand how these systems were first implemented and how they have been further modified and adapted to be used even today to shape cities and society. Transportation is one of the most important systems that aided in the growth of modernization in cities. Pursell hints at the fact that the improvement in transportation systems such as roadways allowed for much faster and efficient transportation during the early 20th century (Pursell, 71).

Since the rise of the digital age, technology has revolutionized transportation, education, and communication all around the globe. Third world countries now have the ability to treat diseases and educate their students using the internet. Technology allows us to better use our food, knowledge, and transportation. But not all of this development increases our ability to grow. In the colonial times of America, before technology became so prevalent, people knew the value of hard work and determination. Even when situations provided difficult outcomes, the settlers knew that they had to work in order to survive. Nowadays, we can cook food in a microwave, receive information instantly, and travel halfway across the globe in a few hours. If people from the twenty-first century switched places with the early American settlers, very few of today’s technological giants would survive.

Finally, the last obstacle is technological. With renewable energy and green technology being new, the technology is simply not as efficient as it is required to be (New York Times, Arthur Ochs). Energy means nothing if there remains no long term way to store it, “Energy is most useful to us when it is concentrated, transportable and storable” (Powering Planet Earth, 41). So a larger capacity and longer lasting battery would be greatly beneficial to green technology as well as the outside that market due to the spillover effects.

Innovation constantly provides new technologies that allow Americans to produce more, cure more diseases, pollute less, improve education, and choose from a greater range of investment opportunities. The resulting economic growth generates better-paying jobs, higher standards of living, and a greater appreciation of the benefits of living in a peaceful society. In the process, however, some sectors suffer until they can adapt to the new changes and begin to benefit from them. But in the same way that it adapted them to a new, more industry-based society, America will adapt again to a new, more knowledge-based society. To promote economic growth, the Administration should advance more free trade agreements and lead negotiations at the World Trade Organization to eliminate agricultural subsidies, antidumping measures, and other protectionist policies that benefit a very small group of Americans at the expense of most other citizens. Technology saves us time and allows us to access material in only minutes. “The Internet and online subscription databases, even as a supplement to the printed works in the library, allow students to see, and force them to consider or reject, points of view that they might never have encountered in decades past” (Gow 4).With all the time technology produces, it also has downsides and it also may have created a less intelligent society.

The evolution of technology has changed society in both positive and negative ways. People all over the world use and benefit from modern technology. Technology has simplified the access to many tools people need in education, medicine, communication, transportation, etc. However, using it too often has its drawbacks as well. In most cases, the time of finishing projects is cut by more than half with the help of technology. Many people do not realize that technology has its negative affects society as well, and its rapid advances has changed life for worse in a number of different ways.

Technology is continuously developing and has begun creating shortcuts for the American society. As a society we need to find a balance between our technological use and our everyday life. In my opinion, society has become too dependent on technology. The more advanced technology becomes, the more it seems to be gaining control over our lives. Even though technology is offering society many beneficial qualities; it also is causing many negative effects to occur. Technology is affecting society socially, mentally, and physically.
