Looking back at mistakes everyone around the world has made, it is easy to assume people will never make the same mistakes again. An example an a small scale would be something as simple as a bad math grade. Anyone might try to improve their grade by practicing more and making corrections to the steps they messed up on. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, the animals overthrow the farmer Mr. Jones. By the end, all of the animals were under the control of the boar Napoleon. Many things went wrong along the way, and only some of the time the animals reflected and learned from the mistakes they made. An understanding of the past is essential in order to adequately guard against future mistakes.
In a society, people adhere to various rules and standards that are created and maintained in culture. On page 50, the definition of culture is shared beliefs, values, and practices that participants must learn. In the story of Samir, he illustrates that globalization and local culture wrestle with each other to determine what people deem correct. In his account, Samir portrays the westernized medicine’s dominance over an indigenous Costa Rican medicine man. In addition, Samir highlights many benefits that globalization opens the door to. For example, globalization has opened him to other cultures and languages allowing him to become more understanding of other people and to notice a unity among all people (Culture and Globalization, n.d.).
Throughout history cultures have come and gone. Cultures from many distinct civilizations and empires were able to be conceived but yet most became utterly ruined. However certain societies and cultures were able to thrive for longer periods of times and outlast others. The more sophisticated a culture was, the greater the influence it had over smaller ones eventually merging together to establish a strong society; therefore creating a longer lasting culture. How do these cultures develop and “outperform” others to survive for long periods of time? Through two factors: how advanced the society is technologically, socially, economically, and politically and the role of the society in world affairs. These principles help dictate the how valuable certain cultures are compared to others and ultimately extend the lifetime of societies and their culture.
Americas history is what defines us and who we are as a country. We were built on hard work, sacrifice, wanting to be free and independent to be who we want to. Now a-days, we seem to have fallen away from this. Everything is given to us so easily on our computer and through technology that we have no need to work hard anymore. This is the downfall in humanity because as we keep going, life will continue to get easier and we won’t want to do anything. History is our hope so that we can learn from what we did in our past and how things were done then. For starters, we can see what mistakes we did and make sure we don’t do them again. If we continue to the same thing over and over again, there’s no way for our society to improve from this. Our

I find myself curious about the past. From ancient civilizations to the technological advancements that have made us who we are today, the past has been instrumental in the development of the present. Much like in essay “America” I too think of the United States when I hear the word America, even if you do an internet search for “America” the first result would be something pertaining to the United States. As an immigrant from Trinidad West Indies at the age of 13 all I knew of the United States was the name America that was associated with it. Knowing nothing more I was introduced to the American culture in the 7th grade. Never having study the history of the United States I have learned the culture and what it means to be an American from
The lessons of our past can me cited in an abounding amount of ways and these lessons have been being passed down from generations to generations. From being told in stories by grandparents who fought the wars and through documents and artifacts left behind and found that give us this greater understanding of our past. Our history has taught us many lessons and these are important to fathom because it has guided us and been the foundation to our world. The shaping of any culture requires adaptation to their environment and its problems, such as economical, social and geographical, and the learning from these in order for their culture to live by and survive. The Christian Church would prove the most important in shaping a new European religious civilization. In as much as Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam undergirded civilizations in Asia and Africa, Christianity served as the basic unifying force that held together the new European civilization. (Sivers 2015) This process entails having the ability of shaping ones behavior in order to survive and have this same behavior passed onto the following generations.
Technology has a huge influence on the American culture and American society. Over the past couple years technology has made a big impact on everyone's lives, whether they realize it or not. Anywhere you go or anything you do you will come in contact with technology. The Doctors office, The Dentists office, The Grocery store, your workplace, School, Restaurants would all be a completely different place without technology. I think the piece of technology that has the biggest impact on everyone's lives would probably be a computer or a laptop. In my life a laptop has played a big role in my life these past couple of years in school and during my education.
A) There were a couple of things that surprised me when I started citizenship classes. First, the urge that some students had to feel like they were a part of the American culture. During, some conversations that I held with students, some felt like they were not a part of the American culture, nor their native country. In all, feeling alienated and shunned by non-immigrants in the United States. In lecture, we spoke that migrants felt like “they were not here, nor there,” and I can only imagine what it is like not to be a part of society, simply because they made a sacrifice to improve my family’s lives. We also, have to take into consideration that many of the students were aware that they were still at risk of deportation, being
It is important to learn about those who came before us in order to understand how exactly this world came to be the way that it is. History is known to repeat itself, so learning about the past can help to prevent things like world wars from happening again. However, not everything can be prevented. Studying the past also shows us how things such as the death penalty was handled. Learning about Socrates and ancient Greece teaches us philosophy as well as where the modern day democracy came from.
