Importance of Group Work

Group work has been a cornerstone of the social work profession and requires a variety of facilitator skills and awareness of group processes. The SSLDTM Group Program for People with Difficulties in Social Situations (Socialwork1914, 2017) provides an excellent example of a psycho-educational group co-facilitated by two female social workers, Jane and Karen. After viewing the 6th session of this 8-week program, I began to understand how the concepts of group formation/development, interpersonal dynamics, and leadership styles contribute to successful group work outcomes.

This article discusses the most effective ways that we can follow to organize large classes in order to implement and carry out collaborative learning effectively, and allow both teachers and students to shift smoothly from whole-class discussions to individual and group work. Gena Rhoades begins her article by indicating the problem that many teachers confront in their classes and making them pulling out and neglecting using group work. According to the researcher the only reason behind this problem is the feeling that most teachers have of being unable to control their classes.

If an officer cannot be accountable or responsible, he or she will lose the respect from other officers. Teamwork will be at jeopardy because no one will be able to trust this officer. If the officer was responding to a call, he or she might have difficulty finding a fill for backup. Even if an officer was accountable and responsible, teamwork is essential in this profession. There is no “lone-wolf” in this profession because law enforcement is a team effort. Everyone has to learn how to get along in order to protect the public above all else.

Each of the three areas identified by Adair needs to be addressed if your team is to work effectively and harmoniously. Just imagine these scenarios:

I think group projects are very helpful. Maybe somebody in the group doesn’t understand something. So another person in the group can show them how to do it. You can also talk to people you’ve never talked to before, you might be able to help someone, moreover someone might be able to help you.

During this trimester, I was a member of two diverse five member groups. Superficial analysis based on composition and output (successful assignment submission) would suggest that these groups had every opportunity to succeed and evolve into effective teams (Fisher, Hunter and Macrosson 1997; Hackman 1998). However, closer inspection suggests otherwise. As Hackman (2004) recommends, teams should measure effectiveness from multiple perspectives: quality of team outcomes (client perspective), quality of team life (individual perspective), and increased team productivity over time (team perspective). Using this model, it is apparent that despite a happy client, both teams performed poorly.

There are three kinds of jobs: first jobs where people have to work alone without any help, second kind of job is where you have to work in a group, and finally the third kind looks for equal work: invidual work and work in a group.

Group activities are a great way for children to gain knowledge about their peers, educator’s and the communities’ cultures and traditions. Children are able to visually see the different cultures and experience them for themselves in a group setting that would be interactive and visually stimulating. An educator could play some different language greetings on a CD and have the children repeat what they hear, to represent each of the children and staff at the centre. Giving the children an understanding of the diverse cultures at the centre will enhance their understanding and promote equality and minimise discrimination. Have you ever thought to yourself, “How am I going to get all this work done by myself?” Well, we definitely have! This is why we agree that working in groups is the way to go. It has many great effects on students and teachers. Which means everyone gains from group work.

In the society that is developing with every passing day, making oral presentation and doing group work have become basic skills serving for not only studying and teaching but also students’ future jobs in many areas.

Group work is not fun; in fact, group work is the vain of my existence. Being forced to work together with other busy students to create a project that I could have created on my own in the fraction of the time is not something I was looking forward to when I received the prompt for assignment four. As I had originally anticipated, but wrongly expected, the freedom of choice during this assignment, I already had the perfectly selected group of motivated workers planned out, so I was even less excited when I found out I would be prescribed a group. However, to my pleasant surprise, two of the members from my dream group were in my actual group, and the group ended up being entirely female, a clear advantage in my eyes as some boys can be difficult

Realizing that a group can become a high performance team is important. Accomplishing this goal is invaluable, advantageous and profitable. Once able to operate from a group to the high performing team is a great step into preparation into the big business world. Leaders and members must also realize not only how to accomplish this but that some problems will and can arise from different demographic characteristics and cultural diversity. That is if one is in such a group, which the probability would be quite high.

As I researched small group math instruction, I was able to find a variety of solutions to my questions that I presented in the beginning of my study. For the purpose of this study the following questions were addressed: What is the most effective way to teach the small math groups? How can I support my students to be better math investigators through small group instruction? How will my students react to small group math discoveries?

Answer: A social groups is a set of people who are together, a group of people that share a common interest, sense of being unique, sense of belongingness and unity exist, where there are mutual understanding and it is also a collection of individual with respect of their goal, ideas, interest, conception view of a given point of discussion.
