When you hear the word radiology, what comes to mind? Do you think of the overbearing effects that radiation can have on the body or perhaps the remarkable usage that comes from it's technology? Most people don't realize how extremely helpful radiation can be, but seldom it can be dreadful. The medical field would not be as productive without the use of radiological technologies. When I say dreadful I mean the damaging consequences on the body that can come from radiation. Technicians who work around radiological equipment, such as -x-ray, CT or even mammograms, usually aren't too exposed to radiation because even though its every day, it's only for a short period of time. Repeated radiation exposure, like from people who work at …show more content…
Also, every month they are required to send in those badges, and they get a chart back showing the different levels of radiation exposure to make sure they stay in the safe zone. Although, there are some unsettling experiences from radiation, the most accommodating part about radiology is how significant it's technology is. Some of the beneficiaries "include fighting cancer, diagnostic imaging and the possibility for extending life" (Nilsen). "Radiation helps doctors image body interiors to locate areas of difficulty" (Nilsen). There are several different types of radiology that consist of x-rays, ultrasonography, mammography, CAT scans and MRI. X-rays "reveal positions of fractures or foreign bodies from various parts of the body" (Taylor 1427). Sonograms are a "visualization of deep structures of the body by recording the reflections of pulses of ultrasonic waves directed into the soft tissue", which basically means it produces images of soft body tissues (Taylor 1785). Mammograms mainly are an x-ray of the breast. A CT scanner combines images of soft tissue, bone and blood vessels ("Refurbished Medical Equipment" CT). And last but not least, the MRI is an "advanced imaging method that produces images of the body without surgery or x-rays" ("Refurbished Medical Equipment" MRI). Initially, the x-ray machine is presumably the most frequently used because it's not as expensive as the other equipment. Plus
Radiologic technology is a satisfying and rewarding career. It is a technical and refined science. As a radiological technologist, there are many essential duties and responsibilities that have to be fulfilled in order to be a good one. First of all, radiological technologists have to maintain a well-mannered and professional behavior when gathering information. They have to assure their patients that they are in good hands therefore; they give patients the uppermost quality of care and services. Second of all, the main responsibility of a healthcare provider is to keep all knowledge of a patient’s health record confidential or secluded. That means radiological technologists cannot talk about patients at home or with friends and classmates
I am pursuing a career as a radiologist technician due to a number of reasons. It first started with my fascination of the complexity of the human body. In high school I had no idea I wanted to go into the medical field until I took an anatomy and physiology class, and this subject fascinated me. Solving problems and seeing results is something I want out of a career. I am looking forward to the life-long learning that is involved with a job in the healthcare field. As such, I am interested in a specialization in radiology so I can continue my education and provide a higher level of care to ill patients. Caring for the well being of others has always been one of my priorities and working in radiography would create opportunities for me to provide
Radiology Technicians are like heroes. Without x-rays they do many people’s sicknesses would go un-treated , as well as undetected. The job of a radiology tech is sometimes very stressful, but even though that it is stressful they know it’s worth the stress because they are saving other people’s lives. When being a radiology technician it can be very dangerous because of the administering radiation, but the benefits of being able to know that you helped a person out ways all the negative factors of this career.
Another form of imaging is ultrasound. Ultrasound, which uses very high frequency sound, is directed into the body. And because the tissue interference's reflect sound, doctors are able to produce, by use of a computer, a photograph or moving image on a television. Ultrasound has many application uses on the body, but is more commonly used in examinations of the fetus during pregnancy, because use of radiation may affect the outcome of the baby. Some other practices for ultrasound include examination of the arteries, heart, pancreas, urinary system, ovaries, brain, and spinal cord. And because sound travels well through fluids it is a very useful technique for diagnosing cysts( which are filled with fluid), and fluid filled structures such as the bladder. And since sound is absorbed by air and bone it is impossible to use a ultrasound on bones or lungs.
Radiation Therapy does not just take a strong mind, or someone with compassion; it is also is a very technical field. I have grown up loving technology and always trying to understand different ways to utilize and understand new technology. I believe this skill will help me as a Radiation Therapist as technology is always evolving. Having an aptitude and appreciation towards this, will be an asset.
Everyone knows what x-rays are and what they are used for, but rarely is it’s importance spoken of or credit deservingly given to the one who has to meticulously position a patient in order to acquire the best possible image, whether it be a screaming child or an uncooperative, elderly man. Both nursing and radiography are all about helping people to heal and get their health back up on it’s feet but beyond that are as different as day and night. From education, salary, and employment positions to dangers, demands, and history, these careers demonstrate that they are nothing alike. Although nursing and radiography are both in the health field, there are many differences between them with nursing proving to be a better and more practical career
Advances in both radiography and radiation treatment keep on advancing and get to be more sophisticated. Cases incorporate digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in which, apparently, there is the potential for more prominent inclusion by radiographers and by radiation therapists in image guided radiation treatment. Looking even to the moderately later past underscores the degree to which change is happening in the radiography and radiation treatment work environment. Case in point, ten years prior it was radiologists who embedded cannulas for CT patients (AIR 2014, 1). Presently radiographers and attendants attempt the assignment. In private radiology hones, Australian radiographers now consistently embed central lines and do feature joint, shoulder, arm, and tendon infusions under supervision.
- Even though the X-ray expose patient to harmful radiation it is used to see inside the human body and diagnose broken bones, gallstones and later tuberculosis.
I have learned a lot when it comes to patient care, radiation protection, safety precautions of radiation, anatomy of the body, how to position patients for certain exams and soon to be much more. I am glad I chose this profession to go into because without radiologic technologists we would not be where we are today with diagnosing tumors, cancer, diseases, surgery and low infection rates in surgery as well and much more. Radiologic Technologists are very important no matter what people may think. Many think it is as simple as pushing a button but there is way more to this job than that, that nobody knows about or understands. We are just as important as a nurse, doctor, surgeon, and anyone else in the healthcare profession. I am glad I get to be the one behind the scenes helping people figure out what is going on inside of their body. I cannot wait to graduate in 2017 and become a registered radiologic
Although there have been signs of leukemia, there is still uncertainty if that long hours of radiation exposure has any effect on x-ray techs. (RSNA) Although I first believed that as an x-ray tech I would be diagnosed with cancer or some other disease, I now know that there is only a slight possibility that I will even be diagnosed. Even though getting zapped by some kind of radiation would turn the x-ray tech into a powerful beast would be cool, it is impossible… for now anyways.
I have always desired a career that would allow me to improve the lives of those around me while caring for a family of my own. I desire to feel successful through continual learning and challenge. Radiologic Technology will provide me this with ever changing tasks with different circumstances and challenges that require problem solving, critical thinking, and determination. Radiologic Technology will allow me to have interaction on a personal level with patients and their families and provide the opportunity to improve their lives by searching for the things that don’t appear on the
If you have thought about becoming a Radiologic Technologist, someone who performs imaging examinations, but do not know if it is the right choice for you. This paper will inform the reader as to how to become a Radiologic Technologist, their job description, ranging from the work settings to the kind of patients they deal with, some of the challenges and rewards, including their salary as well. At the end of this paper you should be able to make up your mind on becoming one or not.
A radiologist is a medical specialist, who has had specific postgraduate training in performing and interpreting diagnostic imaging tests and interventional procedures or treatments that involve the use of X-ray, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging equipment. Radiologists are trained to assist other doctors and specialists to treat their patients by making a diagnosis and providing treatment using medical imaging. Radiologists have the medical knowledge to understand and explain your medical problem or symptom through the images or pictures that are taken of various parts of the inside of your body. The tree types of radiology are Diagnostic, Interventional, and Radiation oncology. The Diagnostic imaging uses plain X-ray radiology, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound and nuclear medicine imaging techniques to obtain images that are then interpreted to aid in the diagnosis of disease.
Radiology is a territory of therapeutic science that includes the finding and assessment of conditions in the body by means of the utilization of electronic imaging. This is an incredible path for us to have the capacity to see what is going ahead inside the body in extraordinary point of interest without needing to slice open the patient to see within his/her body, which can be conceivably extremely perilous and hazardous. It is far less complex and faster to utilize imaging and frequently more exact also in light of the fact that, you
Radiology is the process of working and viewing inside the human body without breaking the skin. By using radiant energy, which may take the form of x-rays or other types of radiation, we are able to diagnose and treat many diseases and injuries. Both diagnostic and therapeutic radiology involve the use of
