It has always been difficult for me to find a writing process that works well for me. Over the past years, I have struggled with writing papers and thinking creatively. However, I feel as if I have established a writing process that works for me.
It seems as if our high school does not give us the full preparation we need for college-- specifically in the writing aspect. I am thankful my school offered me the opportunity to better my education through college courses. In past years, I have not taken the time to write well organized papers causing me to feel very anxious about taking a college english course in high school. Because of what I have learned in this course,, writing papers has become much easier and less stressful.
The first
My high school years were not spectacular, nor were they terribly productive.I left high school without learning how to proficiently write an essay. However, CUNY's Borough of Manhattan Community College afforded me a desperately needed second chance. It was at BMCC that I sharpened many of the skills I should have mastered in high school. I was able to greatly improve my writing ability. I began college as a student who found writing a 2 page paper to be a terrifyingly daunting task, but due to practice and numerous resources offered by CUNY, I soon was able to compose papers consisting of 10-14 pages with confidence and efficiency.
In school writing was kind of easy and it was about testing what the students learned. In addition, testing their knowledge and information, but in college writing is totally different as Strong said. The thing that makes me to fully agree with the author is that I experienced this situation by taking this one further step from school to college. This experience is compatible with Strong’s article and thoughts. Another part of the article that I agree with is that in school teachers care too much about the student’s studies. Teachers go after their students notifying them with their deadlines and test dates, while in college or university professors are kind of irresponsible with the students’ behaviors and actions. Each learner is responsible for any error he commits, remembering test dates and deadlines, which makes this a huge progress and improvement in life skills. This transition is never going to be easy, instead it’s difficult and it needs diligent work because it is about moving to the next level in
Throughout this semester, and the course of English 1010, my writing has changed a lot. I no longer view writing as an extremely daunting task that I dread with all my heart. However, I still do not find it appealing to write, and I definitely wouldn’t sit down and write for fun.
What I want to know sixteen weeks from now (That I do not know now)
I am no writer. I don’t have connections to assemble or a creative imagination to share. What I do have are opinions to voice and arguments to present: but these, too, I must learn to communicate through writing. In the past, I have only ever written required assignments for school, and I struggled with them: I continue to struggle with writing today. After reading Dillard’s two essays, I learned more specifically that I struggle with beginning a piece of writing, writing clearly, and analyzing or revising what I’ve written.
To me, a good writing means the writing has no spelling errors and it is put together very nicely. You know the paper is good when you read it over plenty of times and you don’t find anything wrong with it.
I am in the same boat with you when it comes to writing skills. I know I wasn’t born with it at all but I try every day to better my writing skills. It has been difficult trying to not write how I talk. When I carry on a conversation it sounds normal and correct but when you put it on paper it doesn’t quite make me look to intelligent. I also agree with you about passing on the ten tips for anyone that does any amount of writing.
The process of writing a song is more complicated than most people think. There are many steps to take, and it can be done in various ways. Not every song is written in one sitting, and often songs aren’t even written by a single person. I am very interested in songwriting, and I have even written my own songs. I am pretty good at songwriting, but I am not perfect. I want to improve my songwriting so that I can become a great professional songwriter. Someday, I hope to be a great songwriter, like the ones that I admire and look up to, such as: Prince, Eminem, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Machine Gun Kelly, Michael Jackson, and Jimi Hendrix. However, I have a lot of work to do before I am as great as my idols. There are many ways to improve
The use of technology has made learning to write more difficult for me. I am quite dependent on technology for pretty much everything I do, my writing skills has bottomed out with little or no progress since freshman year of high school. Throughout high school we spent very little time on writing assignments that had to be completed during class, therefore causing a little bit of laziness on my part. Improving my grammer and spelling is a challenge for me, because the microsoft word software automatically corrects all your errors. I am so dependent on the software to correct my errors that I halfway try to produce an excellent paper. As long as you got most of the spelling correct Google can basically auto correct and if you don't even
As many of my teachers have enjoyed preaching for the last three and a half years, one of the biggest purposes of high school is to prepare students for college. Typically, teachers use middle school and junior high to prepare students for high school, high school to prepare them for college and college to help students strengthen themselves for life and the workforce. In my final semester of highschool, I have made huge improvements to my writing in my College Credit Plus English 1100 class. In order to succeed in much more difficult college classes, I was able to utilize the Columbus State class that served as a bridge between a high school level class and a college course. After listening to peer and teacher reviews on my first couple papers,
Before, when an essay is assigned, I usually begin by free writing. Free writing is a technique in which a person writes continuously without worrying about spelling, grammar, or topic. Once I have brainstormed, I put it all together and organize them in a clean way. After I have finished my rough draft, I reread it multiple times, adding, changing, and deleting anything I believe can be improved. Once I think I have done the best I can, I write my final.
Fear struck through my body like lightning instantaneously as I entered the classroom. Luckily, there were barely any students present in the classroom when I appeared. Cautiously, I walked towards the front of the classroom and sat at one of the front desks. Of course, we did introductions and this was frightening to say the least. At first I thought the class would be boring, but I was wrong. Eventually when we received our chromebooks, I was able to test my writing ability. In effect, I soon discovered my poor writing skills and I was afraid of flunking that class.
It's good to be open to learn new habits to improve your writing skills. I agree that it is important to practice everyday for it to become your new habit. That is why they are called habits. It's a word that usually have a negative connotation tied to it but not all the time. I have a habit to look over the paper multiple times, too, to correct it. Usually I tend to overlook my mistakes, though. Nice to hear that you're are developing good writing
This is the first time I’ve had any formal kind of training/help with my poetry and I can definitely tell there is a change in my writing process. I don’t feel like my overall writing has improved, more like now I know how to properly use it. Usually, I just write down a bunch of words but by having constraints I would never give myself I was able to really stretch my abilities and write some decent stuff that wouldn’t have existed otherwise. I feel like the most useful thing I learned how to utilize stanza structure because I’ve never really given it much thought before. I feel like I also learned to be more expressive in how I write because you pushed me to use more imagery. I used to just write poems exactly how I thought of them which meant there was no grammar and really long lines which I get now aren’t as cool as using a formal structure. This whole class overall really helped to challenge me to make my poems more accessible because I’ve never written a poem that anyone else has read before, so I feel like that’s a good kind of challenge. I really feel like I’ve learned exactly what my style is, because before I either wasn't interested or just didn’t give it much thought. And by learning exactly what my style is I can polish it and really excel.
English and writing are not my strongest subjects. When I was in high school, I thought writing papers was a piece of cake. I knew college would be very demanding, especially going into a health profession. So that meant I would be taking English classes and writing many papers. I knew they would be more difficult than high school, and longer. The writing process is very helpful even though I do have some weaknesses. This class showed me that I was not the only one struggling with English and that it takes practice and time to improve my writing skills.
