This past summer I took on an extensive project of completely redoing the landscaping in the front of my mother’s house. This project originated by the falling and removal of a three large trees due to a severe storm leaving a big gap in the landscaping. We decided that the front flower beds need some revamping, thus this project began. The process used to initiate the project was very informal. It was a family project that had an end goal of improving the homes curb appeal. This approach was successful for the outcome, since the project was more relaxed and had flexible deadlines a formal approach was not necessary. If we didn’t complete a specific task than it was just bumped to the next weekend. This project was seen more as …show more content…
My mother’s house is located on what used to be a gravel pit and unfortunately for us, this meant certain areas we tried to dig would be rock instead of nice soil. We found out quickly that the areas that where rock/gravel instead of soil where nearly impossible to dig using only man power. To overcome this issue we had to redo designs and move plants to different areas and avoid digging where rock was present. Also, to combat the rock issue we raised some flower beds by adding retaining walls and top soil over the rocks. This allowed for an admit amount of soil needed for plant growth. The final outcome of the project was a great success. The front of the house now looks great and my mother is very pleased. There are a variety of plants growing now, in areas that used to be empty or filled with wood chips from the removal of tree stumps. Many of the neighbors have also commented on how nice the yard looks, so the work has not gone unnoticed. The project was managed mostly by myself and it was handled in a relaxed manner. One recommendation for improving the system would be to incorporate more helping hands. The project usually only included myself and one other person. On occasion it included more people, but not often. If there was more people involved in the project it would have be completed in more of a timely manner. The project consisted of many different roles provided by my family members. The project manager
Overall, this group project went very well and was completed on time due to the fact there everyone including myself assigned ourselves with a task role, relational role and from the start had individual roles present such as leader, compromiser, and gatekeepers in the group that made it
It was no small feat to get the project finished. The greenhouse has been eight years in the making and has battled through the recession to get to the outstanding facility it is today.
The project had regular meetings with the team members. These meetings were used to evaluate the progress of the project. At these meetings we evaluated the project. We also discussed how to proceed in order to plan our upcoming activities.
As the seasons pass each year from spring, to winter, to autumn, and back to summer again, the maintenance and upkeep of your landscaping becomes not just a part of daily
The once manicured lawn now a home for two feet high weeds, lifeless trees and overgrown brush. The house should've been condemned and demolish with a bulldozer a decade ago.
There were fruit trees and big back yard and front yard too. We were excited to move into it.
Formed strong relationships with project team under fast paced Agile 2-week sprints during the 2-year project.
Most people see landscaping design and garden functionality on two different levels. Ask yourself: Do you want to create a garden which is a work of art meant only to be viewed, or do you want to create an extension to your home that will allow you more comfort and more pleasurable moments in your backyard? In order to achieve the latter, while considering the aspects of colours, shapes and balance, the design should always go hand in hand with purpose. A retaining wall or a bench can be turned into a work of art, without hindering the functionality of the garden. We picked out 4 garden elements that easily bridge this gap.
However, while Mr. Tipton’s garden held a variety of flowers, during the summer, the garden bed would always be alive with the vibrant blooms of zinnias. Dozens – no, hundreds it seemed like—of scarlet, fuchsia, and gamboge blossoms of varying heights rose above the manicured lawn like reeds near the water’s edge. They carpeted the area in front of the child-height
The effect of my work was greater than I could have ever imagined. Looking out at that section of yard now, there is a large garden, many fruit trees, two honeybee hives, and grapes and kiwis growing up the fence, which was built to keep out the deer and rabbits. My little project eventually involved my whole family and even some friends who came out to help.
Overall, our team project was great. We worked well together besides all of us having a busy life, we did our part very well.
This commentary on landscape gardening will deliberate over the effectiveness of making use of tips on landscape gardening in order to work out various landscaping problems.
The group’s process during the project was very successful. Our team’s communication relied on the group chat made through Facebook. We did encounter some setbacks, but nothing we weren’t able to deal with as a team. When creating our team contract, the whole team decided we would take on this project with a democratic approach. This means all decisions would be put up to a vote and the majority vote won. In our first steps of the project, we had to decide what organization we wanted to work with. As a team we agreed that our priority was to work with children, then as a backup we had the possibilities of working with the elderly or with animals. The voting ended up for the children and then the elderly as our backup
The group divides the project tasks and every week the assigned task deadline was not met, this situation was very stressful. However, after several weeks I realize the professor had outlined the task process that show who was committed to the project and who was following through. This alleviates some of the stress that forces me to understand that all the collaboration technique in the world will not work if all parties are not committed.
When I was a young girl, I cherished the moments my family and I had while we were outside during the summer. Usually going outside consisted of me riding my newly bought, white and pink bike that I still wobbled on because it was too big for me or climbing the apple tree in the front yard, but this time, my parents wanted my brother and I to help garden. The dreadful thing of planting a beautiful flower in the mucky dirt, left my hands and feet soiled in a dark substance. I never liked gardening and I hated when I saw the neighborhood children enjoying the “activity”, but I always did what my parents told me. Now, as I look back into the life of the young Brittney, I realize that the only thing that I didn’t like about it was the dirt. Did I not understand what putting the root into the soil meant, or was I just too childish to remark the significance of a seed growing like a little me?
