Executive Summary
This research is conducted to compare the opinions on improving the Nation’s Education System. The data collected is then analyzed and compared to three independent variables; Race, Age, and Gender. The results are then verified with applying statistical techniques of Cross tabulation and Chi-square to come to a conclusion.

Introduction
Teaching is an essential part of education. What is the role of education in American Society? We tend to focus more on higher education rather than k-12, as higher education is considered to be more important than k-12. Several researches have agreed that the Education System in the United States needs enhancement. According to Liefner (2003), “The higher education in the United States is a prototype of a structure in which market driven competition exists for both education and research” (p.470). Higher education in our country is controlled by the government and its allocation of funds. But, what do people think about the nation’s education system? Is it at the right level compared to other Countries? It is important to know the opinions of people with different age groups, genders, and race on if they think how much improvement is needed in our educational system.
Previous research done by Stigler &James (1999) agree with the fact that, “American teachers, compared with those in Japan, have no means of contributing in the gradual improvement of teaching methods or of
There was a time when America’s education system was top-notch according to the culture and society. With time, a myriad of things has changed, but unfortunately what has not evolved is the American education system. The country is still following a system which was not designed for the current global economic climate. Equality, as positive as it sounds is not as sufficient when it comes to education. The system treats students equally yet expect a similar culmination and outcome. Every child has his individuality and distinct abilities; one cannot judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. Conversely, a few of the prominent reasons why the education system is failing are overcrowded schools, the rise of technology, and following the same old school hours.
America used to thrive on its education system and that is why it became one of the greatest nations in the world. Education is the backbone of our country, and we must give high priority to improve its current condition. Unfortunately, in the past couple of decades, the education system has been regressing. It has been on the decline and not as effective. The quality of education in a country has an influence on GDP growth, social cohesion and social well being in general. In order to improve the quality of education in the U.S., the following must be taken into consideration: the structure of our education system must be reanalyzed, we must compare and contrast our education system to systems of other countries with higher rankings, and finally, there must be a solution.
Education in America is one of the most important issues that face our nation. If the education in America is not thought of one of most serious issues we face, our nation as a whole will fall. There are many debates and they seemly extend to all walks of life. The debates range from the decline in education, school vouchers, and the no child left behind law. As a nation, the United States is ranked above others. We must search for that solution to all of the pro’s and con’s in education. The solution should allow all walks of life to excel in the education realm. After all, the children of today will be the leaders of tomorrow.
The education system in America has a long history of struggle and change, as we have grown as a nation we have experienced an ever-increasing rise in diversity. This diversity has caused rigidities between groups and all stratus of society and has been a major impact in debates concerning the educational opportunities in America.
The American Education System is not meeting the needs of current students. If anything, the system is not building a sturdy foundation for the future working class. Schools have existed for many years and every period they have worked differently. However, every school’s main purpose was to educate students to be efficacious later in life. Modern day schools are corrupting students with added pressure, standardized tests, making less accommodations for special education students, not following laws, and take away individualism from the students’. The students of modern times are the people of our future and the future does not look too bright with the current American Education System.
The Education system currently in use by the United States of America is a modified version of a methodical tool used to implement obedient control at young age and centralized power solidification. A problem with the system is the obsessive culture of
Education in America is not as valued nationally as the current culture wants the societies of the world to think. There are occupations that are valued above educators, but our civilization wants to imply that our educational system is well advanced and tries to emphasize that we are a country of well-educated people. Unlike in Leonid Fridman’s “America Needs Its Nerds,” and Benjamin R. Barber’s “America Skips School”. Everywhere in this country we hear the government say how our schools are the future of this country, but if we listen carefully we will hear little in our civilization over education financially and how poverty mixes in with this issue.
The education system has been the cornerstone of freedom and equity for economic success in The United States. However, the history of education has never been so crucial to the collective future of our nation and to the young people. The public schools must struggle to provide equality in educational system as never before. The demand for education has become necessary and growing to provide education for all students to comply with the rigorous academic standards on a global scale (Baker, B. D., Sciarra, D. G., Farrie, D. (2010, p. 1).
The United States of America is the world most powerful country in the world, dominating the world’s economic and political system. Millions of foreign students come to America for higher education each year. Ironically enough, America public school system is not so glorious. Indeed, it is not effective where teachers and students lacked motivation and interaction to develop critical thinking and innovation. Michael Moore in the article “Idiot Nation” and John Taylor Gatto in “Against School” argued that the education system in the United States is deeply flawed.
Since the colonial period, Americans have expected a great deal from their educational institutions. Just teaching the usual subjects has rarely satisfied demands on the schools. Americans have also wanted learning to serve other social institutions, ideals and goals. Such expectations invite disappointment and controversy. Combined with the circumstances of the country's history, they have also led to a very distinctive educational system.
The United States holds its education system to a high standard and it attracts immigrants from all over the world. Going to school in the United States is said to open opportunities that would not have otherwise been presented. Unfortunately, education is not as student-tailored as it should be. Over time, education has been made a part of the “system”, which allowed it to be rationalized. Students are judged on how well they can perform on multiple standardized exams and higher education is more expensive than ever. Rationalization of the education system has made it a business; a part of the economy. By making higher education costly, it has also weaved out the disadvantaged and allowed for more efficiency. Efficiency, predictability and precision has become the goal. Education has moved away from allowing individual assessment and pushes for a collective knowledge.
The United States prides itself on its public education system making it a core value of many families. The level of education a person has will influence their career achievements. Americans expect their public system of education to provide a solid curriculum. Most of the people in the United States place their trust in the public school system in which they support through taxes. This trust although is contradicted by the public system of education’s current shape. Much of the schools in the United States are either deteriorating, or failing all together. The drawbacks of public education create an unhealthy environment for student learning.
For years, people have always felt that the Japanese school system was superior or more effective than that of the United States. Although some feel this way, others feel that the Japanese system is too strict and not flexible enough for those who may need extra help along the way. Through researching two different case studies, and also reading other materials, I have found many similarities along with many differences between the two, including teaching methods, overall emphases, and student involvement. Both countries have developed very effective and intricate systems of teaching, which compliment, and clash against one another. The Japanese system is not in all ways
America is a blessed country in numerous ways, and its citizens reap the benefits. Free education is one major benefit that not many other countries provide for their citizens. While it is only a privilege to many, but in the States, people have the right to be educated. However, free education cannot be translated to success for all. For those motivated ones who cherish the privilege to be educated are those who climb up the success ladders later in life. For a certain majority of students in the States, our current educational system may not seem to serve its purpose. In this paper, I will explore two possible adjustments that could be made to improve our system to benefit our next generation. Academic improvement and class size
The American teaching philosophy is vastly different from that of Japan’s teaching philosophy. Instead of allowing students to
