George Orwell was born as Eric Arthur Blair on June 25, 1903 and would later take the pen name, George Orwell, for his works. Later on he would join the Indian Imperial Police and then resigned in 1927 to become a writer and then moved to Paris in 1928. It would take him a couple years to publish his first book but it would finally happen on January 9, 1933 with Down and Out In Paris and London. Lastly his final book, 1984, was published June 8, 1945. Orwell died almost a year later from tuberculosis on January 21, 1950 (George). His other works included, Burmese Days, A Clergyman’s Daughter, Homage to Catalonia, Coming Up for Air and Animal Farm (Fenwick). Some say that Orwell had doubts about “the machinery of socialism” and that he was more interested in “man than in man’s work” (Reilly). And throughout his books, especially Animal Farm and 1984, Orwell portrays the government and society in very interesting ways, and possibly in ways that are applicable to our present or even our future. Even though Down and Out In Paris and London, doesn’t have the underlying tone about socialism, it can still be applied to people everywhere who are trying to make a living with what they have, which is their talent. Depending on who you talk to, some say Down and Out… is an autobiography and some say it is a semi autobiography, but either way it is about a man who goes between the cities, Paris and London, to become a published author, which is essentially what Orwell

Though his lineage traced back to wealthy landlords, Blair’s family wealth had been lost down the generations, and their source of income came from the sale of opium. He wrote that his family was “lower-upper-middle-class.” At just the age of eight Blair was sent to boarding school, of which he does not recall any fond memories. During school, he began to wet the bed, and this was regarded as a sinful act. Though he could not control it, he was punished and beaten for his involuntary crime. He notes feeling that he was “in a world where it was not possible for me to be good” (Orwell). This experience gave rise to a rebellious nature within him. Afterwards Blair was educated at Eton college, which was one of the most prestigious and expensive schools in England. Here he was remembered by his peers and professors as being very argumentative and freethinking. Though most of his

George Orwell employs the usage of different rhetoric throughout 1984. The rhetoric differs from describing the human body and its struggle to survive to the different crimes and how the citizens felt about them. Also, within 1984 lies a warning from Orwell: to eliminate the caustic consequences of a communist government. While Orwell served as part of the Indian Imperial Police in Burma during the 1920s, he examined the faults of the communist government. This phenomenon inspired Orwell to warn governments world-wide to stay on the right path to a safe and free rule.
1984 was written after World War II with an intention to warn its readers of what could come if he or she was not careful. In 1936, Orwell ventured to Spain to write about the Spanish Civil War which handed

This biography is an overview of George Orwell’s life, and how his experiences shaped his political views. It is written by George Woodcock, a writer of political biography, history, and literary criticism. He is the founding editor of the journal Canadian Literature, and won a Governor General’s Award for The Crystal Spirit, a critical study he wrote of Orwell and his work. Under scholarship, Orwell attended Eton, one of England’s leading schools, where Aldous Huxley was one of his masters. He joined the Indian Imperial Police in Burma, but felt ashamed, for the Burmese were being ruled against their will. He could not mingle with the Burmese due to racial and class barriers, and resigned after 6 years. In an attempt to
Days without food, nights without shelter and clothes without buttons are reality for homeless people around the world. His focus on politics in his literature appears in most of his essays and novels. This content of anti-imperialism has led him to be globally known as one of the most influential authors of the twentieth century and has been noted as the second greatest author since 1945 by
