Defense mechanisms are only one way of looking at how people distance themselves in the total familiarity with disagreeable feelings, thoughts and behaviors. People using dissociation normally have a disconnected view of themselves inside their own universe. Time as well as their unique self-image as it does for many folks, might not stream nonstop.
