Inaccuracy In The Soul Surfer

In this quote Bethany, the narrator is describing the surfing and its pros and cons. This quote is significant because it she shows why surfing is important to her.She describes the overall negative consequences of surfing but how its apart of the game. In the end all Bethany wants to do is surf and she will overcome anything to surf.

Soul Surfer is based off of the true story of how a young girl, Bethany Hamilton, lost her arm due to a shark attack.  Bethany was 13 years old at the time her attack occurred on the morning of Halloween 2003. Bethany was surfing with her best friend, Alana Blanchard, along with Alana's dad and brother in a place known as "The Tunnels" or Tunnels Beach which is located on the North Shore of Kauai. Bethany was laying on her surfboard with her left arm dangling in the water, when out of the blue the shark attacked her and took her arm almost to her armpit. The remainder of the movie shows how Bethany coped with her injury with the help of her community, as well as her re-learning how to surf and go through her daily life as normal as possible. This film's estimated budget was about $18,000,000.

1. Soul Surfer takes place in Kauai, Hawaii. In the story, the main character-Bethany Hamilton- is an extremely talented surfer. Her whole life basically revolved around surfing, she loved it more than anything else in the world. Bethany spent most of her time in the water, either practicing or competing. Until one day during a practice session with her best friend, Alana Blanchard, something tragic occurred. Bethany was attacked by a 14 foot tiger shark. Alana, and her father and brother rushed Bethany to the hospital, in fear that she might die. As Chrissie continues swimming, the frame changes to a point of view shot, accompanied by the same music as in the opening shot. The audience’s thoughts change immediately from the images of the cheerful beach party to the earlier reference of the shark in the opening sequence. This provides a very effective contrast. The audience's expectations are realised when Chrissie feels a sharp pain, and then begins splashing about in the water as she is attacked.

Soul Surfer is an inspirational film. It is filled with drama that turns the audiences’ world upside down. Grasping humanity, the movie pulls it in and transforms it into something beautiful. It is founded on a true story about Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm during a vicious shark attack. Sean McNamara, the director, planned to film the movie shortly after the attack in 2003. Seven years from the plot of storyline, it premiered in theaters in April 2011 as a PG movie. Its purpose was to inform viewers that all things are possible. In the movie Sean presents that, people can overcome life challenges with perspective, determination, and support. Soul Surfer is about over coming fears in light of a misfortune.

On the morning of October 31, 2003, Bethany went out to surf at Tunnels Beach in Ha'ena with her best friend, Alana Blanchard, and Blanchard's father and brother. While lying on her board,she suddenly felt intense pressure on her left arm and was pulled back and forth for a few seconds. Originally feeling no pain, she noticed the water around her had turned red, and her friends realized that her left arm had been bitten off nearly to the shoulder. The process of healing after that was challenging and hard for her, but she overcame it with her faith in God and hard work.
