At one-third the size of the United States, India is the seventh largest country in the world at approximately 3,287,263 km². Located in Southern Asia, India has a population of 1,333,521,673, a total of 441 people per square kilometer per a 2015 census conducted by the World Bank (Population Reference, 2015, p. 1). Despite its size, population and its presence in the world economy at number 10, its gross domestic product (GDP) is worth approximately2073.54 billion US dollars and represents 3.34% of the global economy (India’s gross domestic product, 2016, p. 1). As of 2001 72% of India’s population resides in rural areas, however, with growing industry and need for urbanization, its population is becoming more mobile resulting in higher injury related accidents. Insufficient and nonexistent prehospital and trauma care, the government of India has failed to recognize injury and trauma as a major public health problem in lacks the necessary infrastructure to establish and define prehospital care (Joshipural, Shah, Patel, & Desai, 2003, p. 686). However, India’s pre-hospital and trauma care is beginning to evolve in its larger cities by way of local initiatives and supported by private funds and overseas groups (Tintinalli, Cameron, & Holliman, 2010, p. 28). January 2009, the Indian Journal of community medicine published an article estimating 16,000 people die from various injuries around the world every day and represent 12% of the global burden of disease with India
