ESPN is reporting that Indiana Pacers are closing in on a deal that will make Nate McMillan as their new head coach. The former point guard is reported to be replacing Frank Vogel, who was surprisingly let go after the NBA playoffs ended. But the moves has comes as a big surprise to many NBA fans and insiders because McMillan is not fit to what team president Larry bird is really looking for. In addition, Bird also feel more comfortable working with McMillan, Bird already knows what kind employee McMillan is. Another possible reason why McMillan is being pushed as the team’s next head coach is because of his deep relationship with general manager Kevin Pritchard. Both guys have worked together in the Portland Trail Blazers. Pritchard might have convince Larry Bird to hire McMillan instead of picking someone else in the industry. Overall, McMillan is taking his third chance to be a head coach in the NBA. But the Pacers fans are not all that enthusiastic and supportive about the move because Pacers fear that McMillan might not be a good fit for the team. However, the only way fans are going to know is when the next season starts in the fall. That’s the time where fans and NBA insiders could see McMillan going for the coaching role or will be gone by the next
His ability of being able to change his leadership styles depending on the circumstances is one that Coach Knight hasn’t been able to accomplish. The unflexibilty and stubbornness of Coach Knight not only makes him a less popular coach but a less efffective one as well.
In conclusion, Although Coach K was originally mentored by Coach Knight as both a player and as an assistant coach; they both have adopted different styles of leadership. They appear to be almost polar opposites, yet have both managed to have done well in their respective field. As the late Emanuel Rohn once said, “The challenge of leadership is to be strong but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not a bully; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly”. If only Coach Knight had followed this simple statement, how much further would he have gone?
It wasn’t just the coaching that got the Hoosiers through the season and now into the playoffs. It was the young men on the team that believed in themselves through Coach Dale. Coach Dale loved every one of his players and insisted on them playing the way they could play. He saw the passion in their eyes and had total confidence in their abilities. There was also the big difference of having Billy on the team. In the beginning of the season there wasn’t a leader on the team. With Billy on the team now, there was someone to go to and get the job done. He carried the team and provided what needed to be done on behalf of the team.
The lack of minority head coaches in college football is a problem the NCAA is trying to tackle. Just around 11 percent of FBS head coaches are African American, while about 57 percent of college football players are black, according to a recent ESPN report. With the hiring of Smith, Illinois is taking a step in the right direction, looking to get to the top of the Big Ten under his
His scouting agents are looking for bench players. Bench players that can rebound and be dominant inside the post as Tim Duncan. Someone else that get to the basket and get others in the game as Tony Parker. Players who can get blocks and guard superstars like Kewhi Leonard.
The Ohio State men's basketball team has had back-to-back disappointing seasons and most people believe that head Coach Thad Matta should be fired from his job. Ohio State is a program that over the last ten years has been accustomed to winning games and being at the top of the Big Ten standings, and the last two years under coach Matta were not up to most fans standards. I believe that Thad Matta should not be fired and that he will turn the program around if given more time.

While this is a team moving to a new city that recently hired a new head coach, there are several intriguing defensive pieces for Bradley to work with.
With second-year coach Frank Vogel at the helm, the Magic are expected to push the tempo and play a faster pace of basketball, something that fits Gordon skill set. Last season Gordon mostly played small forward while averaging 12.7 points. This year he’s expected to play more power forward, this will allow him to have a speed advantage over slower defenders.
The Florida Gators are right in the middle of searching for a new head football coach. The fan base is seeking a coach that'll revitalize a once potent offense. Rumors have been circulating around the internet that the new coach is going to be Chip Kelly. Reading threads and posts on Twitter, from a Gators fan standpoint, this is a no-brainer home-run hire.
Coach K has been a leader stemming from his days at West Point where his was the basketball coach, he instills his values into each one of his players, values such as commitment, toughness, pride, love, honesty, integrity, friendship and collective responsibility, all values that make up an effect leader. Coach Krzyzewski has been coaching for nearly three decades, he has high expectations for himself and for his player, and he states to all recruits “I’m going to give you my best. I’m going to give you 100 percent. In return, I expect you to graduate. You’ll be coming to Duke for more than basketball. If you don’t understand that, then don’t come to Duke. I want you to be passionate about basketball, but I also want you to obtain a great education” (Krzyzewski, 2000). An effective leader does not simply lead their colleagues, they inspire them to go forth and do great things. Those leaders also enquire a great sense of preparation and that could be the difference between thriving and dying, “we knew without preparation, we had a good chance of losing that game” (Krzyzewski, 2008). In a leadership position the relationship between everyone involved is detrimental to how the overall moral is. The ways that leaders handle those relationships greatly effect the path of success. Coach Krzyzewski instills a lot of trust in his players, treating them with a great respect and infuses a family like atmosphere in his locker-room, “family makes individuals part of
George called Mike and asked him if he wanted to coach, Mike had a girlfriend now and his own house, he didn't know if he had time to coach a team, tend to a house, and hang out with his girlfriend. Then Mike thought about what George sacrificed. The bulls, the money, the fame.
Larry Bird’s coaching accolades. Larry Bird won coach of year in 1998. First person to win Most Valuable Player award and Coach of the Year award . Larry Bird led the Pacers to a 58-24 season, in his first coaching season. In 1999 and 2000, he led them to two Central Division titles. Larry Bird’s coaching philosophies. Larry Bird was strict as a coach. Larry Bird would charge 1,000 dollars for each late mistake by a player and the third late action would suspension from one game. Larry Bird stated “One thing I told my guys from the very first day of practice was if you have an open shot, you better take it, ‘cause if you don’t, you’re coming out of the game.” Larry Bird had a lot of confidence in every player on the roster in shooting, which was different because usually there would be people that were on a team just do one thing on the court and would “punish” the players if they did not shoot and have confidence by taking them out. Larry Bird coached differently than most coaches. Larry Bird let assistant coach, Rick Carlisle draw up plays for the team. This made the assistant coach job more important overall in the league and improved the knowledge of assistant coaches. Larry Bird stated ”The most important thing, I always felt, was to develop good conditioning habits” This was different then most coaches because most teams focused on shooting and fundamentals but Larry Bird believed that if you can last longer than them, then you will win. This is very
With all the strengths Coach displayed, he still had some weakness show through. He made judgment errors through overconfident and commitment escalation. Overconfidence came when he first met his assistant coaches. He insisted that he was the head coach and things were going to be done his way. This did not
