“I never thought of it that way, but it’s true.” “What made you go up to him? You could have kept walking.” “I suppose I respected his dedication to a cause.” Arthur paused, staring up at the ceiling. “I stood there and chatted with him for a while, and he told me about how we shouldn’t celebrate the genocide of Native Americans, and we should change Thanksgiving to Indigenous Peoples’ Day. I’d never thought of it before, but that’s Merlin, always opening my eyes to new things. “And he’s a good guy. Merlin’s always looking out for me, but sometimes, he can be a bit of a mother hen. He acts like I’m on the edge of dying when I’m stressed, but he means well.” “What happened after snot-fest?” Arthur chuckled. “It was cold out, and Merlin was shivering. His friends decided to end the protest, and I invited him back to my dorm for …show more content…
It was much nicer than he expected, surrounded by tall, tinted windows and furnished with comfortable leather seats. The black tile floor was clean, and the plants were well tended to. Still, this wasn’t one of those report-type mental health hospitals, and Arthur had every intention of having Gwen transferred to one. Did they have these places in Hawaii? He’d fly with her, if she’d allow it, and even if she told him to fuck off, he’d still send her. “Arthur, I’m so glad we caught up with you.” Arthur started and looked to his right. Merlin and Lance strolled up. Lance took those purposeful, police-officer strides, while Merlin’s face was a mask of deep concern. “What are you guys doing here?” Arthur shook Lance’s hand, but Merlin was having none of that. He pulled Arthur into a hug. “It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out you’d be here today,” Lance said with a half-grin while Merlin pounded Arthur’s back. “We wanted to be here for you,” Merlin muttered into Arthur’s shoulder. “Easy with the public displays of affection, Merlin.” Smiling, Arthur took a step
“Arthur! Hey Arthur!” Arthur turned his head to see his two friends James and Derek . The three of them had been best friends for years. “Hey guys” Arthur said. James winked at him. “Guess who got lucky
When Merlin was at the school he saw Leanora Sutter and thought, “Leanora Sutter turned and stared through me that witchy girl with those fuming eyes. She meant to put a curse on me. She meant to.” (Pg 4). This is talking about how when Leanora looked at him, he believes or thinks that she’s staring through him with her “witchy eyes” because since she’s African American and isn’t a part of the KKK, she’s bad and like an alien in a way. When Leanora saved Ester from being hit by a train, it began showing Merlin that everyone has the same ability to do something like another person can. “I could have saved the kid. I saw it, too. That train tearing along the track. I saw it, too,” and, “I’m not saying she did anything I couldn’t have done, but when I think on it, maybe I didn’t try because something, something kept me in my place, watching that colored girl run.” (Pg 76). From seeing Leanora save Ester, he begins to see that African American’s can do the same thing white people can. Also, since something had held him back, it’s a sign that is telling him to give Leanora a chance even though she is different from him. One night, Merlin was driving to a Klan meeting and picked up a guy who had hood and rope in a bag. He pulled a knife out on Merlin which made Merlin think, “I never have been out-bullied before, but I thought about that boy in Chicago, that Bobby Franks.” (Pg 94). Here you can see that Merlin is seeing what it’s like to be the victim in a
My personal feelings don't matter I have to speak with Arthur and simply hope that our conversation doesn't end with both of us becoming covered in cuts and bruises. During my life I have seen many trends from cowboy hats to bell-bottoms come and go, and I have found that a tie, coat, trousers, vest, white undershirt, and black leather dress shoes never go out of style. Once I finish getting dressed I kiss Morgan goodbye and start walking over to our bedroom door. “I'll probably swing by your office later today, but until then goodbye madame mayor.” “Jason you know I hate it when you call me that.” “Oh, but you're so cut when you're angry.” “My beloved before you leave promise me two things.” “What do you ask of me Mrs. McCartney do you want me to climb the highest mountain and tell the gods how beautiful my wife is?” “No that’s not good enough how about I buy you the biggest diamond I can find or get the birds to sing a special song to you every morning?” “Do you always have to be such a smartass romantic?” “Ya.” “Now what were you going to say?” “Promise me you won't let Arthur piss you off, and remember we have to go and meet the Lawson family who have officially decided to move to Avalon Meadows.” “Well you know what they say nothing says this is a good place to raise your kids like a bloody nose and black eye.” “Jason promise me.” “I can promise you that I will remember to go speak to the Lawson family, but Arthur knows how to push my buttons if anyone can piss me off its him.” “I can accept that just make sure you protect that gorgeous face of
Arthur didn't bother looking up. "Sir Gwaine, I need you to take Sir Percival and a contingent of knights and ride to Ismere. I received word that Morgana may be in the vicinity. Check it out and report back to me."
“Sire, you don’t have to do this,” said Arthur’s uncle, Lord Agravaine. “Have one of your men behead King Caerleon.” Agravaine moved close, and whispered, “But this is right, you know. Caerleon trespassed on Camelot’s lands. You must demonstrate your authority, sire”
“You know,” said Marlene, “I bet you and Sirius could be top of our class if you actually put in a bit of effort.”
“Don’t harass me, Merlin!” barked Arthur, pacing the floor from bed to window. “I need some honest advice and help. You’re the only one who can give it to me. See me later for supper, here in my quarters. All right?”
“Well, it was. You’ll understand once I will tell you the reason why you are here at the moment, my dear.” he quickly said, as if that was the answer he was waiting for.
“You’re going to have so much fun!” He looked ecstatic, “Look on the bright side, you’ll make more friends now!”
In addition to being courteous, being helpful to the weak was another aspect of chivalry portrayed through characters in the story. First, Arthur tried to be helpful to Merlin when he was being chased by ruffians. Arthur chased them away while riding his
On June 21st, First Nations all around Canada celebrated in happiness. With parades involving cultural dances, festivals, and food. This was to celebrate National Aboriginal Day. To honor the heritage and achievements of the First Nations culture. As Canada 150th neared, many wondered what was worth celebrating. Judith Sayers, a former chief of the Hupacasath First Nation shares her opinion: “Many people in my community are choosing to ignore this holiday. We don’t want to celebrate a country that took our land away from us, our rights. We don’t want to celebrate a country that abused innocent children in residential schools and disrespected our culture. A country that colonized our country through laws and agreements, like the royal proclamation
The legend of King Arthur has inspired, and continues to inspire, many retellings of the well known stories and cast of characters. Ranging from film to literature to art, these retellings often include depictions of two key characters in the legend: King Arthur and and the wizard Merlin. Disney’s The Sword and the Stone (1963) and the British Broadcasting Corporation program Merlin (2008-2012) both showcase the relationship between Merlin and Arthur in the development of Arthur, but they differ in approach; in the animated version, Merlin assumes the role of a mentor while the television program depicts Merlin as a friend to Arthur.
Charles smiled. “Then it is no trick that I intervened. As I said, I saw this man fight, and I sought almost immediately to have him.”
Each individual makes up the society as it is, and various characteristics and beliefs makes up an individual. Although, individual lives together with a variety of personal ideologies, emotions, cultures, and rituals, they all differentiate one person from the other making up one’s own identity. This identity makes up who one is inside and out, their behaviour, actions, and words comes from their own practices and values. However, the profound history of Indigenous people raises question in the present about their identities. Who are they really? Do we as the non-native people judge them from the outside or the inside? Regardless of whether the society or the government were involved in their lives, they faced discrimination in every
Indigenous stories are not created to answer every inquiry, however they do engender questions as the listener identifies. Indian stories accede the listener to deviate to the storyteller. Written narratives are fact oriented thus promulgating answers rather than generating questions. King epitomes oral narratives from Native and non-native speakers in written form, exemplifying different dialogic relationships to damages caused by industrial societies.
