Individual work on University Project on Mofix (1480 words) Introduction: In this essay, I will try to develop three factors that about a drug named Meloxicam, although in the essay it will be referred to as Mofix. The three factors are: 1) Use of the drug in pregnancy and breastfeeding. 2) Indications and dosage instructions. 3) Formulations available for the drug and routes of administration. In spite of the details of each factor, there will be a conclusion at the end signifying one important fact from each of the three, in order to try and simplify the facts that are written. Moving on to breastfeeding, fortunately there is no data on the drug being excreted in human milk, however it was found in the milk of lactating rats, and it was at concentrations higher than those in the plasma. Taking into consideration the significance of the drug to the nursing mother, a decision should be made whether to stop nursing or to stop the drug. That decision comes as a result of the possibility for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants. If a choice such as this one can’t be made then there are ways for a nursing mother to take her medication and breastfeed. One way is, plan on when to take the medication during the day. For example, when the baby is asleep or just after the feeding so that until the next feeding, the medication will have cleared enough from the body, therefore the baby will receive the least amount of influence from the drug. Indications and Dosage Instructions: Mofix is used to treat the symptoms of two conditions. The short term use of the drug is for treatment for Osteoarthritis, and the long term use for treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis.
