COULD I BE AN INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER? Industrial Engineering is probably one of the most versatile and varying fields of engineering. There are so many routes an individual can take with an industrial engineering degree because the subject is applicable to so many areas, and this trait is one of the most attractive characteristics of the major to me. What Does an Industrial Engineer Do? The role of an industrial engineer is to maximize efficiency in systems that have workers, machines, materials, information and energy designed to make a product or a service [1]. According to James Shields, an industrial engineer who works for FedEx Ground, essentially, it is the responsibility of an industrial engineer to understand a system and to …show more content…
Industrial engineers need to think differently from others and need to be creative thinkers. I have exhibited my problem-solving skills daily in my job at Target. As a Target employee, I am required to help customers find items that may not be on the shelves in the back room. When I first started, it was daunting to find these items by myself in the backroom, but by learning my way around the back room and asking for help, I could help customers on my own. I used my resources to have a better understanding of the situation and solved my way through the problem. To be any type of engineer, you need to think critically and problem solve. There will be times in my career in which I need to complete a difficult project and I need to use my problem-solving skills to complete the task. I have already gained and practiced problem solving, so I will be better prepared for the future as an industrial engineer. My public speaking skills are apparent in the many presentations I have led, such as with a program called Junior Achievements (JA). The point of JA is to create a product and sell it to customers. As the head of the Sales Department, I needed to demonstrate to others how to successfully talk about our product and to sell it to others. By teaching others how to properly speak to others, I was practicing and honing my own speaking
Seconds gave birth to minutes and minutes to hours, yet my concentration remained resolute. Despite the daunting nature of the task, I remained determined in what I had to achieve. For the first time applying some rudimentary scientific ideas I managed to build an intricate model of a toy car. “You shall grow up to become an Engineer one day,” my father exclaimed gazing at my laudable piece of creativity. I was only eleven and yet those prophetic words unknowingly chartered my future course for me.
America had a huge industrial revolution in the late 1800”s. Many changes happened to our great nation, which factored into this. The evidence clearly shows that advancements in new technology, a large wave of immigrants into our country and new views of our government, helped to promote America’s huge industrial growth from the period of 1860-1900.
For me, the largest draw to joining the Engineering Honors Program is being able to work with and get to know my professors on a level that I wouldn't be able to in a larger classroom setting. In a large classroom setting, I don't see myself getting many opportunities to interact with my professors outside of office hours, which I still absolutely plan to take advantage of, but being in smaller classes would allow me, and the class as a whole, to have more time to ask our professors questions. On the subject of the other students, I believe that being in honors classes will give me the opportunity to interact with some of the smartest people in my graduating class, and I look forward to participating in that smaller and closer-knit group.
The largest floor covering product is carpet and rugs followed by ceramic tile, vinyl, hardwood, stone, laminate and rubber floorings.
This paper will go over the three main goals I would like to achieve in my public speaking career. My first goal is to improve upon the structure of my speeches to ensure that the topics that I discuss are in an order that will make sense to the audience. My second main goal I have for improving my public speaking skills is to improve on my confidence before, during, and after my speech. Finally, my last goal is to raise my delivery skills when I am giving my speech to assure the audience that I am confident and that I am a credible person. Together, these goals will help improve my public speaking skills.
Industrial Equipment INC. sold and serviced a variety of industrial equipment and related products to hospitals, nursing homes, hotels, motels and various other organizations in the four Atlantic Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland/Labrador. In addition to distributing a broad line of specialized equipment IE provided design, specification and planning assistance to architects,
I as an electrical engineer pursuing my master in electrical and electronic engineering developed a skill to solve the problem. During my bachelors, I studied natural and physical science and basic fundamentals that are required in the engineering field and also gained vast knowledge how to identify and tackle new problem in the practical world.
This really helped me to find my confidence and taught me how to get rid of the nerves that comes with public speaking. There is always room to improve and through the speech classes I took throughout high school I feel like I improved in my speaking skills. One of my strengths is being good at preparation. Preparation is a very important factor in making a good speech. Knowing your audience, your topic, and knowing how to organize a speech properly is something I find to be a strength. Another strength of mine that I previously stated is knowing how to get through any nerves that I have. My weaknesses of public speaking include my newly developed stutter, talking too fast, and not speaking super clearly. With speeches I am much better at putting the speech together rather than actually giving
Throughout life we express ourselves through words. The way we present ourselves through speech says a lot about our character. The way one speaks to others can jeopardize the amount of respect and trust others have for them. From the way one pronounces a word to their posture can affect the way an audience interprets what is being said. Personally, I am not confident with my speaking skills at this point. I would like my audience to fully comprehend the concepts or facts that I would present to them. In order to do so I must improve my speaking skills I believe that a problem most people, including myself, have when giving speeches is facing an audience. Just looking out to an audience of a mere ten
Q1. Based on the 2004 statement of profit and loss data (Exhibits 1 and 2), do you agree with Water’s decision to keep product 103?
Advancements in agriculture, textile, transportation and economic growth became possible only because of the Industrial Revolution. Taking place in the United States between 18th and 19th century, times went from separating the cotton from its seed to using an automated cotton gin made by an American inventor Eli Whitney. This allowed for the lower class citizens to be able to have the important goods such as medication and clothing. Before the American Industrial Revolution, people were mostly farmers and life went by slowly and tedious work was required for simple tasks. But with inventions like the cotton gin, and the assembly line, mass production evolved. The United States had one of the fastest economic growths than any other country
Industrial psychology is concerned with people at work. It is also called personnel psychology. A closely related field is known as organizational psychology. Traditionally, industrial psychologists have assessed differences among individual workers and have evaluated individual jobs. Organizational psychologists generally seek to understand how workers function in an organization, and how the organization functions in society.
My communication skills have been a great asset to both my personal and work life. It has strengthened my ability to work in harmony with co-workers and in group settings. Although I communicate quite effectively I do find myself to be more quiet in large group settings and dislike public speaking. My recent position in community nursing required me to take on multiple roles as an educator and helped me work on my public speaking skills.
Throughout my high school life, my extracurricular involvement has helped me develop a variety of skills. Primarily, I have been a part of the Leadership and Peer Support group as a project manager of a conference; I exercised my leadership and collaborative skills. As an engineer, there are times where an individual with leadership and cooperative skills must rise and become the leader in different projects. Interpersonal skills play a significant role in an engineer’s life because they will always be required to communicate with new people. Earlier this year, a peer and I decided to start a Student Mentorship Program and as a co-founder of this group, I learned how to problem solve, make decisions, think laterally, and work as a team. As a student, my skills will allow me to accept challenges with confidence and contribute to discussions during lectures with new ideas. Teamwork, leadership, interpersonal and hands-on skills are key abilities engineers must contain in order to be successful.
I have also got the chance to get a lot of insight into the processes of casting and welding. In my final year I took Production Planning and Control & Maintenance Engineering as my elective so that I could get initiated into the field. I got to know the basic operations of different mechanical systems of the automobile like the I.C. engine, brakes, clutches, powertrain, transmission and differentials. A Master’s degree would allow me to delve deeper into individual aspects of Industrial Engineering by studying and examining them in greater detail and gain practical experience by way of relevant internships. Hence Master’s in Industrial Engineering became an obvious necessity.
